He's got an amazing collection up there and it is nice to see them finding new, albeit diversified, homes. Your choice is a bird that wants to fly and fly and fly!
I was a WV wing Civil Air Patrol cadet in the 70's. We had a bird dog, N5252G, a close cousin to your aircraft. I've loved bird dogs ever since. Glad to see your aircraft flying again.
I did aircraft electrical on the o1E bird dog. They marked enemy ground positions by firing smoke rockets to reveal them then the A1 Es would come in and blow them up with napalm bombs or what they had. I absolutely loved the opportunity to play with those wonderful airplanes!
Great aircraft which i am glad to have time in. A bit touchy on the ground but beautiful in the air and their turn radius is remarkable. Only down side is if you have to go anywhere in a hurry it's not the best. This one looks absolutely mint.
@@112_adventures I've been looking for one with a little bit of hangar rash... who am I kidding; a lot of hangar rash to bring it into my price range. There are a few on the Canadian registry I've been pursuing.
@GlensHangar I know of a few with A LOT of “hangar rash”, that are very affordable. Well, sort of. Ok who am I kidding, they’re crashed, and they’re free. But getting them to you, and flyable, would cost more than it’s worth. Best to find something local.
@112.Adventures from what I remember we wet sanded that red and white paint scene and had it repainted the same. The other one was olive green and I think it had a little smaller motor. I probably have at least a hunder hours in the back seats.
Oh I am sooo envious! I was looking for an L-19 Birddog to purchase and you are right, they are very hard to find. But I did find an L-16 Grasshopper which is very similar and was also used for observation and liason by the army and later used by the Civil Air Patrol for SAR missions. Sadly that plane too, was purchased by someone else before I could get down there to see it and test fly it. Nice find. I know you will enjoy that plane and it does look incrediblle! Congratulations
I might have seen that L16 you’re talking about. Nice airplane. We might be working on a deal for one of those too soon. Likely wouldn’t be a keeper though like the Birddog.
Interesting that you found this in Nevada. Would you tell me where you got it from? Just curious... This is going to be a great project and I believe it will be quite rewarding. It will get plenty of attention once some of us old military spotters and FAC's get to see it airworthy again. :)
Really good question. A lot of new old stock parts still exist, but for others, some(very few) can come from Cessna but only if they cross reference other aircraft. For specific L-19 parts, Cessna no longer holds the type certificate so they no longer produce parts for the aircraft.
Why not just admit you were given a cherry plane and made a big deal about performing routine maintenance in preparation to get a ferry permit. No real rescue here.

Indeed he does, and I’m grateful to be one of the new caretakers. Can’t wait to fly and fly it.

That’s awesome. I wonder what the serial number was… I could probably look it up online 🤔
Love this! Can’t wait to see it!

They sure are neat airplanes!

Totally agree.
The L-19 is one of my most favorite aircraft ever that I would love to fly
Might be at the top of my list as well, and I have flown one!
Oooh I'd love to have one of those!
I think you should get one!

Awesome find
Beautiful plane!
I think so too!
The Spring Landing gear is a challenge but you can roll it on the mains
My preferred method as well!
Well done 👍
Thanks Jim!
We had two of those in the early 70s in so California.
I remember sanding that paint job off of one of them.
I can’t even stand the thought of someone sanding paint off an airplane, it makes me cringe to think all the damage!

It was part of a museum in Carson City…there’s a couple other videos floating around that show the place.
For replacement parts do you have to contact textron or is most parts common with the Cessna family?

I have one that looks just like it that I have had for 10 years. N41362. You are going to love it.
Looks dope bro . Stay flying
Thanks man. Appreciate you watching
Dope = stupid person. Merriam-Webster Dictionary.
