1998 Bud Shootout Race Review | FBTT Ep. 89
Back in the day, there was a shootout in Daytona, and each driver would receive a year's supply of beer for their trouble. The Bud Shootout always meant that the NASCAR season was just around the corner. In episode 89, our duo takes a look back at the 1998 Bud Shootout and the Bud Shootout Qualifying race. Two races for the price of one, with nothing on the line except pride and a lot of money. But not as much money as the NASCAR All-Star race.

speaking of the Le Mans start, in the very last year it was done, Jackie Ickx protested against the Le Mans start by walking to his car, buckling his seatbelt correctly and was the last to leave. He went on to win the race. As if to prove his point, another driver crashed on the opening lap, he died when he was ejected from the car because he hadn't done his harness.

In a nutshell, the race results are determine by mileage. Whoever has the most miles in 24 hours is the winner, position on the track when the checkered flag is waved does not really matter. Technically, when the timer runs out, you can cross the finish line after 5 others and still win! I've seen it happen in the American LeMans series. Ron Fellows came in 17th in POSITION but still won in his racing class! Hell of an achievement, he was beating guys 20 years younger than him!

Strange? No, tripple bad ass better describes mike bliss! A jack of all trades, king of the outlaws. Willing to do whatever it took to get behind the wheel. I grew up watching every race i could starting on dirt, he would come to cottage grove to race and we would hang out in the pits, him and my mom are cousins on my grandpa dressler’s side. Later in life when he raced trucks my grandpa would give us the lineup of what and where he was racing and my uncle keith and i wouldnt miss a race on the tv. This was a cool video and it took me right back to them days. 😎👍🏻

I was hoping if you could help me finding a full broadcast telecast copy for the second of that years race meetings. I was in the pits on Morgan's car that day and been looking for 34 years never been able to find copy of the race broadcast to look back on and watch for myself and in time be able to pass on and share my part of the family history. Thank you in advance if by slim chance someone can help with my wish and cheers from Downunder have a good one mate. Mick.

It wouldn't make sense to organize four different 24 hour races, especially since some class only have about 7 cars. It's first of all not very exciting, multiclass racing is a very important reason why Le Mans is so famous and a big part of the circuit are public roads so they can't use them that often.
