- Nowadays NASCAR rookies are all like 19-23 years old and anyone older than that is unlikely to ever have a career in the Cup series. But it wasn't always this way. Back in the day, older rookies were the norm and James took some time to research some of NASCAR's oldest rookies. From Mike Skinner, to Jody Ridley, they're all here! Enjoy our discussion about NASCAR's oldest rookie drivers.

Great topic. You guys are always entertaining.
Yeah it was crazy seeing someone born in the same year as I win a race. Made me feel useless that’s for sure. Thanks Sam Mayer
He's like half our age almost haha
You guys should do a podcast on the weirdness of the 2000 season
I enjoyed the podcast as always but I wish y'all would've mentioned Mike Skinner's victory in the 1997 NASCAR Thunder Special Suzuka. Even though it was a non-points Winston Cup race, it was still a great way to cap off his rookie campaign.
Also I went back and re-watched this video on Jimmy Hensley's pole for Dale Earnhardt. To my surprise, NASCAR rules at the time did not require him to start in the back. :)

We have something special coming on Mike in a few weeks. :) Stay tuned.
We won the race at Motegi in 1998 as well
@@FlashbacktotheTrack He sure did! The NASCAR "Emperor of Japan."
I think part of Willy T.’s failure in the truck series stems from very poor communication and possibly even a racial divide within the team.
I half thought you guys would have mentioned Andy Lally’s ROTY win in 2011. He was 36.
Or Terry Cook’s 3 race season in 2010. NASCAR considers him the ROTY runner up that year somehow. Pretty sure he was 41 or 42.
Can’t forget 2009 with Max Papis. Pretty sure he was 39 or 40. Or the year prior with Patrick Carpentier. He was a spry 37 or 38.
Man NASCAR was void of young talent in that 3-4 year stretch.
