Pequot Lakes offers one of the best snowmobiling destination adventures in the state. The Antique Snowmobile Rendezvous hosted by the Pequot Brush Pilots is no joke. Seriously nice machines and a well-organized event! Something went wrong with some of the RH side audio here folks. Clearly I am an idiot on Divinci Resolve software. Sorry all!

This took me better part of a year and a half to gather together. This was a very challenging build. Does it have to have 12 volt supplied to get power?
Internal 9 volt battery
Great video very helpful. Quite the adventure getting to it. Do you know the size of the oring used on the eccentric? I took it to a hydraulics shop. They got me close but not close enough. Maybe metric sized? Probably end up reusing the 50 year old one.
I just get em from Jerry’s NOS cat parts or reuse them if still good
@@Letsfixsomething26 Ok thanks!
So…I grew up riding backseat passenger on a 74 Kynx II a 440 and my mother had a Lynx I witha 292. In 79 my dad brought home a Kitty Kat that I thought was a 72 so year matching. Turns out 30+ yrs later it was a 71 but who cares. After being used by a ton of my cousins I restored it for my X gf’s grand kids. I got it back and it’s with a good friends kids
Hell yea, that’s super cool Mark. Some day there will not be enough stuff to keep them going but for now, ride on!
Definitely restore and use it!!!
Not much snow this year but that’s the plan
I did a single mikuni on my 400 Cheetah years ago. I found another intake manifold, cut it at an angle and flipped the flange over and had it welded back up to level the carb. Pressure tested it and bobs your uncle. It worked great.
Amazing job! Just curious how tall you are and how comfortable the short chassis is for a bit of a casual ride? Im looking at doing something similar but not sure if it would be manageable to ride 20-30 miles at 6ft tall.
One of them are comfortable of your tall or chubby. Just saying
I don't really understand your response, but I got one a few weeks ago. It's definitely smaller than my other vintage cats but doesn't feel too bad sitting in my garage 😅. Find out next winter when the snow flies. Thanks
Great job! This inspired my panther build
That’s really cool. I’ve been working on this one a bit and it’s hardly a “RAT” sled any more. Glad you liked it!!
Thank you so much for this video I just recently found in Arctic Cat, 1971 puma with weak ignition among other problems but now I feel confident that I can address it. thanks for spending the time.
Glad it helped
7:14 that’s the exact same moto ski I had as my first snowmobile!! Damn I miss that ugly old thing lol
Money well spent! Ain’t nothing cooler than these vintage Cats!
Agreed!!!
How does the timing advance work?
There are “flyweights” that rotate a cam at higher RPM. Using the incorrect length bolts on starter cup will interfere with these arms and change timing horribly. I’ve seen that on one of my motors that I tore down.
Can you tell me where to purchase a mod hood for a 72 puma
Get ahold of Al Seydel or Arctic Restoration. You can PM me for his contact info.
Never find these dawm flange adapters
They do pop up on the various FB groups occasionally.
An adjustable throttle cable will customize throttle travel...... Wahl Brothers Racing Products
Does anyone have a part number for the crank seals? Thanks
Dennis Kirk has everything you need. Also MFG supply.
Thank you! Just diagnosed my 72 puma 440.
Connor, congrats man! Glad it helped.
Any news on the kohler rebuild, thanks
Well since that video I’ve been through 2 of the K301 platform. I’ve learned a lot and both will be up at Pequot 2024 provided the show goes on.
Rice Creek Trail Association is bringing this show back!! March 2nd....mark your calendars!
Chad just heard this!!! See ya there!
Sometimes the Kawy Cats got a bad rep but over the years I’ve found that the 400 and under Kawy were better than the 440s. Also any 45 year old engine will usually need some TLC . Doesn’t matter what brand it is. As far as chrome peeling well yes the 1971/72 engines had some warranty issues and Kawasaki stepped up and fixed the problem. However old school two stroke oil wasn’t where it needed to be. I got a brother who still drags a modified to the gills 440 Kawy fan Puma and under what I’d consider to be extremely severe service the chrome holds up pretty good. But he’s running modern fuels and full synthetic oil. Usually he has to watch the crankshaft verses the chrome. But again it’s modified and twisting 7000 rpm plus . I believe it’s quite possible to build a Kawasaki and enjoy it without fear. I’ve got a 1972 399 im going to go through next summer.
Ps I hope you enjoy yours.
Agreed on all fronts! I’m not much for trashing my sleds or motors so hopefully all is good for along time. And…. Keeping that mixture pretty rich!!
Awesome to see. My father had a 340 Pantera 72 or 73 I belive
Holy Cow, that sucker is Sweet!
Thanks Hoover!
This is an awesome project. I am currently in the middle of a project on the same exact sled. I had a few questions that I was hoping you could answer. I took the carb off and it was an old Bendix Zenith. not very familiar with those as it must of been added on at some point in its life. what carb would you recommend me switching to? thanks for your help
Never heard of a carb like that. Original was a Walbro with a whispurr airbox. You will hear a lot of people bash the Walbro but is the simplest option. Then you start a deep dive into Mikuni swaps. You will have to deal with the 30 degree tip of the engine and intake flange. Mikuni can handle like 20 degrees max. Good luck
Well that’s the best thing I’ve seen in years. Makes me want to do one when I get mine done.
Glen, heck yea. I’ve got lots of ideas but can’t get anyone motivated to engage. Pete had a blast making that one for sure as that sled was in his family for years. Scorpion made some awesome commercials. So did Ski doo. Hope to see one from you in the future. Thanks for the nice comments!!
Fantastic Build ! I hope you're still going to make more videos ? Maybe start doing some live streams, Reels or make some videos with limited or no editing involved would make it easier. I really don't understand why you do not have more views on you videos. Great Job .
I dunno… it’s weird when people start really recognizing you from your videos. It’s soooooooo much work, and then you gotta film all these stages and edit for hours and hours. I’m hoping to maybe switch platforms at some point and try a different angle to all of this. Thanks for the nice comment
Awesome Build!!
Good video but really, really did you really need to take God's name in vain bud clean it up
Church and all things related to religion are pretty low on my list of things to worry about while making a video about a 1971 Arctic Cat Puma. Nobody got hurt, nobody was insulted (not even vintage Ski Doo's) and all of this is in good fun. Plus, my name is not Jim Baker, Jimmy Swaggart or Mac Hammond. You need to subscribe to another channel and worry about more important things going on in the world.
Dang. That's beautiful! Lots of problem solving, but after a lot of hard work the results are amazing. Let it snow!
Thanks Tim!!! It challenged me like no other sled project so far. It’s been very rewarding for sure. Bring on snow!!
Great job! I’m sure the video process is a bitch. But we all enjoyed the build.
Yep, quite a bit of extra work to the end of the build but wanted to record it for sure. Not much out there for 60’s sled rebuilds or repairs. Hope it inspires at least a couple people. Thanks Steve
Looks fantastic!
Thanks Brad! Much appreciated
That thing is Awesome!!! So Jealous. love the look, Runs real nice, plain ol Sweet. 9:25 Your crazy Jason, if i tried that somehow the rope would get caught and thing winch itself to the ceiling LOL. Never stop posting up cool stuff like this.
It was shaking pretty good at higher RPM’s. Had to dial er back a touch.
That is definitely cool and you did a great job.
Hey thanks for the nice comment!
Wow, super cool seeing you bring that sled back to life. Highly impressive!
So many guys doing amazing work but rare to see them record it. Glad you liked the build.
Great build, thanks for sharing.
F*uck the internet you do you! Sub'd
Awesome. Loved it! Great looking machine. Cant wait to see it haulin the mail
very impressive job. are you planning to ever paint the chassis? seems like kind of a gamble leaving it rusty.
No way!! Chicks dig patina! There are some plans in my head to make a new cab but for now… it’s gonna stay “original”. It’s well oiled.
@@Letsfixsomething26 okay then. to me, it would feel like a job unfinished, but to each their own. either way, it's an impressive restoration job you did. nice stuff!
Awesome job bud! Hopefully get to see you with it at a show this year.
Can't wait!. If it don’t blow up…. I’ll be at Pequot, ERX, Proctor and Meltdown. See ya there
@Letsfixsomething26 im trying to convince my buddies to go to Pequot instead of Erx this year but there dead set on Erx lol
Yea, really different shows… 250 probably won’t be at ERX.
Such a great sled. Pretty impressive for your first rear engine rebuild. That thing was destined for lawn art but you brought it back to life. been fun chatting about it as you went along. Great job.
Thanks Rick. I had a lot of advice from a lot of people. ;-)
That thing is sweet! definitely a labor of love when you get a basket case like that .
Where did you say you got the vinyl fabric for the track? Need some for my sno traveller
Place called Tarpsnow.COM Search 40oz PVC vinyl by the yard. This stuff is insane strong. Melt holes with soldering iron. Good luck this year on the channel!!!
Awesome job..! Looks great..!!
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Nice job man
Fantastic commercial. Just like the real deal
Thanks Darren. It was fun to play around with Dragline. That was right before it decided to grenade a rod. Huuuumph
So glad you finally got a rear engine sled!!! Can’t wait to see the progress!!!
Lots of actual work getting done, just not very ambitious at making a video. I’ll get something out soon! Thanks Matt!!
@@Letsfixsomething26 Yeah, when you want to make some decent progress, you have to put the camera down...
Great video!!! I love watching you work and totally envy how meticulous you are with all your projects!!!! I loved the original Dragline video and I’m so glad you performed a top quality rebuild to keep that old sucker running for decades to come! Good work! Ps. Screw those trolls! Anyone can sit on the sideline and complain. It takes a shit ton of work, knowledge and commitment to crank out good content and you got those bases covered! Keep doing what you are doing and screw those losers!
Excited to watch this series! Nice find man!
Thanks!… I’ve kinda found myself NOT filming but just doing still shots. It’s been soooooo much work. Like waaaay too much. Ugggh. I’ll be starting a video when the power platform is bout done. Thanks for the comment
That will be a sweet rig. Patina is good.
Trying to keep as much patina as possible.
what bar risers do you use
Landon great question. First you need a 7/8” bar clamp from like a polaris, I’ve found any of the wedge chassis machines or even a polaris ATV works great. Then you cut off the horizontal bar from your stem. I fabricate a steel plate and use that bar clamp as my drill pattern. Weld that plate to your stem and you are golden. From there a power madd riser is used. One issue is that post or stem is pretty soft so you can’t just go and trash around. You gotta be a little wary of muscling things around. Going to put a solid shaft down middle of my next one to be sure it’s strong enough. Hope that helps.
Loved it
Nice motor work. Pop had a p 12 come back into the dealership with a locked motor from lack of oil. Guy bought a two stroke Panther to replace it. Dad wound up boring the block and installing a 14 hp top end. Thus creating a P14! It had some clutch work done and probably dropped the gearing. Heavily studded the track. He pulled firewood with that thing for decades. I sold it with his blessing to a collector from Maine 20 years ago. What a tractor in the snow!
