1)Nice purchase. 2)Do whatever makes YOU happy 3)I dont like rusty stuff, but I wouldnt bother painting too much. That looks in great shape, fix what needs fixing, prime the rest.
Thanks Travis..... I like the LOOK of rusty, but WORKING on rusty is always rough. You dealt with that on your Snowtravel(er) so you are spot on. Thanks for the comment!
I don't know why, but I can't get excited about those old rear engine sleds, that is, in wanting one for myself. I love seeing them, and they're cool, just like the first-generation automobiles. I've just never established a personal connection to them. That said, I'm leaning toward you leaving "the workhorse" look on it, like an old tractor still in use, not trailering around to antique machinery shows. I hope it brings you a boxcar load of happiness and I will look forward to seeing it at the finish line! You're going to be jonesing for snow all summer! lol
Thanks Ken. I used to kind of think the same thing but after putt putting in the woods with my P12 Panther, things changed. A super quiet ride at 12 MPH kind of makes for a WHOLE different experience. This build will at some point.... be an heirloom build. Thanks again for the comment!!
@@Letsfixsomething26 I can understand that point. Growing up, the area we rode the most... we had to blaze our own trails. We were lucky to get above 10mph on most of our runs. I can remember going out for a 2hr ride and put as little as 15mi to the odometer. It is a different experience just putting through the woods, especially when blazing the first trails of the season, where we'd have to sometimes determine where our trail went because of loggers, and we always had to have a bow saw on board for clearing if we couldn't find a way the obstacle(s). I get a small taste of the old days because I've made trails on my property, but I don't get to putz for long around here! FIELD! lol I do wish you many happy memories as you put this old girl together and put some time on the seat!
Thanks!… I’ve kinda found myself NOT filming but just doing still shots. It’s been soooooo much work. Like waaaay too much. Ugggh. I’ll be starting a video when the power platform is bout done. Thanks for the comment
To start I would get it perfect running condition. You can always blast and paint it later. The paint is much nicer than mine. I know just who to take it to if you decide to paint it. Soak that track for a month.
This is my opinion but they only have there original work clothes once and those original decals are awesome! But on the other hand they look damn good restored too. Like others have said get it running and driving good then make that decision. I cant wait to get my sno-traveler back up and going. I have new rails i made still soaking in oil for it. One mod that is a must have is embedding hyfax in the bottom rails you'll be happy you did! Have fun and im excited to see the progress you make on it!
Oh that is a good one. I am about to make some slides and think I might do that exact modification. Thanks Andrew for that one. Reach out on messenger if you can and maybe send me a few pics of that. I will be picking up some Ash soon and might just incorporate that into them. Thanks for the comment!
That is so cool. I would make mechanically perfect then see what it looks like. But, You be You, do want you like its your project. I bet they werent painted till the fully assembled when they built them originally. You need any machine shop work or some cnc plasma cut parts hit me up. Also, glad you got your P12K engine back and running.
Did some adjustment of points on the P12 and retarded timing a bit. Runs better at .015 gap than at .020. Like a watch. As for this project…, In order to make Pequot Lakes 2024, I’ll need to compromise on some rust. For now it’s going RUSTORATION. I am well on my way with a lot of it already. Thanks for the comment!!
@@Letsfixsomething26 Don't tease me But i think i have a Silly Solution to try, with your difficulty starting the 4 stroke Kohler in the cold at the snowmobile show, what if you drained the oil out and kept it in the jug in the backseat of your vehicle and added the oil while it's warm before you go to start it, yeah i know what if you accidentally started it empty, just an Idea, good luck with the New Sled though.
Hoover, I’ve had a wack of wins and a bit of setback on the kohlers. For now I’ll keep plugging away and hopefully have two good ones assembled, stay tuned!
My P12 went that way and it was hard to not paint and blast stuff. I’m getting better at not messing with certain things. It’s all a balance. Thanks for commenting
So glad you finally got a rear engine sled!!! Can’t wait to see the progress!!!
Lots of actual work getting done, just not very ambitious at making a video. I’ll get something out soon! Thanks Matt!!
@@Letsfixsomething26 Yeah, when you want to make some decent progress, you have to put the camera down...
I vote for the Rustoration as well. Looks great like that. Fix it and ride it.
Thats probably going to be the plan. Already hard on er fixing.....

My favorite rear engine sled. It’s a 63.
I vote for the Rustoration…..excited to see what you do too.
You got it Linda!! I’m gonna finally be a legit REAR ENGINE, BOOZE GUZZLIN, REAR ENGINE, RUSTY RIDERS SNOWMOBILE CLUB member. Vs a tag along!!!
Excited to watch this series! Nice find man!

Cant wait to see the final result!
PATIENCE grasshopper! I'll get there. Standby for the next one.

I think that’s the plan Steve!!!!!!
That will be a sweet rig. Patina is good.
Trying to keep as much patina as possible.

Definitely rustoration. Seen too many be restored to almost better than factory. It’s about time for someone to go against the grain.
