Ledgend video brilliant thanks for making this
Cant put up with the advert any more.
Nice bit of welding there pal, Baz from welder faber couldn't of done better,👍😎
Thanks...been doing it a while 👍
@@UKRestorationServices yes you can tell👍
I've seen most everything hanging off a 360 but I've never seen a crusher like that. Great bit of kit.
It's a good bit of kit. It's cheaper than buying stone in from the quarries.
Cracking videos pal, wide ranging skill set, thought mine was wide ranging ( building trade) . You from a farming background if you don't mind me asking?
My dad has a small civil engineer business, which is where the like of diggers and plant comes from. Our yard is still on the farm I grew up on. Always like fixing and fabricating things. Started working on listed buildings early in my building days.
@@UKRestorationServices ah that makes sense, looks like you need an 8 day week too lol. Nice round Calderdale area, I hike alot round there. Really enjoy the videos, good variety of context and I have a passion for old buildings a bit like you. Keep up the good work, regards Russ
@topgrafter2007 Thanks, Russ, for the positive comment. Always try and put something in educational. 8 day week would be filled with more work....it's not work if you enjoy it 😄
😊❤
Free camping for travellers expecially if they own 2 stroke bikes will soon piss them off enough to let you build your farm

Council plebs are jealous of what you are doing.
Exactly what I said. Don't want anyone to have anything nice. We suggest a nice stone and timber agricultural building in a pre-app meeting. They said we want concrete panel and tin sheets. That's what they are like
Hi Phil - a question - I run a small business up in Scotland (just myself and a couple of labourers) working with Lime, doing chimney rebuilds, work like that on heritage properties. How did you get your foot in the door doing these big jobs for churches and the like? I'd be very keen to work on something like that, but don't know what licenses/contacts etc. I'd be looking for. Cheers
Hey, I would get some training if you haven't already. Scottish Lime Centre is class. You need to know more than the architects, surveyors, etc. Put a portfolio of work together in a PDF that's well presented. Spend some time searching for architects, building managers, Historic Scotland, estates etc, get a big list of email address. Send out the portfolio with a cover letter suggesting trying your services on a small job. Make sure the work bang on. Also, networking helps. The Engine Shed at Sterling holds restoration events. Find as many of these as you can locally. Another good group is The Building Limes Forum. Remember when your onsite you're a Craftsman, in the office your a businessman. Hope this helps, drop me a message if you need anything else.👍
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! That's all massively useful, thanks again!
👍👍👍
A few other tips for welding cast iron if using electric arc welding. Ideally, use high nickel content rods, however, 7018 are also good. Weld using a short stitch technique, peen and clean as you go. Always control the cooling immediately after welding. Get a bucket/deep tray of absolutely dry sand and bury the part in it or wrap the part up in insulation. These helps to stop/reduce cracking. Pin holes of porosity are caused by impurities not air and can cause problems later subject to what the part is. Interesting channel young man, l used live in Burnley years ago, now in Skipton.
Thanks for the tips, will give it a try. The OG gutters seem to weld easier than the half round.....I don't know why that is. Trying to put on daily going's on in the business and a bit of personal life. Glad you enjoyed watching. 👍
@@UKRestorationServices No problem young man. I lived in Burnley for about 15years and now live and run a small welding business in Skipton. If you come over this way, pop in for a brew and pie any time!
They are jealous, pevish, power-crazy and greedy. Basically they don't like what you are doing, trying to get every penny they can out of you and lording up their ego's. I am told by some people, that to get around planning permission issues, one needs to use "encouragement" to win over the planning department in any council. Whether that is true or not I couldn't possibly say!
Nailed it. I truly believe that they are jealous is some way. They just turn power crazed. Don't think they are use to people pushing back at them. "Encouragement" would like to see there bank statements!!
Stumbled across your site. Anyway I can't believe how there was only one bleep out. I have been in a similar situation down in the south some years age and there all a bunch of absolute prats. I'm being polite in my language. Anyway all the best.
Well said. We are moving forward slowly. The system is so broken!!!
How do we live in a world where you need permission to plant trees on your own land wtf. Funny how they're so against individuals trying to improve things but in Colne they're going to flatten a nature reserve to build a housing estate that's OK...?? Hmm I'm sure it's nothing to do with it being a big company giving them back handers
Exactly. The developers wont have to do much ecology mitigation. A 30 acre site in Burnley has to just plan some hedges.....disgusting. We will keep pushing on.
HI. You could ask Burnley COUNCIL how they approved on March street (opposite community garden ) the corner allotment to be transformed in a used car selling business. I was told earlier : allotment is for growing vegetables, nothing else, The rules are not the same for each person, they can bend them as they want. YOU need some good friends in the system or a lot off money to bend the rules as you want.
We thought the right thing to do was to re-apply for planning. Now we know why everyone hates planning and breaks the rules. Simply not worth following the rules. Wont be doing it again!!
they are just milking you sir
I feel they are!!! If you dare question them......like a dictatorship!!
Sounds crazy, yes it looks a mess now, but you are trying to improve the site. It's going to look bad temporarily but in the end you will have improved the area. Look what a mess you took on. You have already cleaned up the area. I fully understand how frustrating this is. I pray you can move forward.
Thanks for the comment. The site was right mess when we purchased it. Been used a dumping site for years. We have built a cracking Wildlife Tower on the site. Video's are on here. Hopefully going to do a update this weekend. Crazy that it takes so long and Burnley Council can be so vindictive.
Appeal to Secretary of State For Foreign, Commonwealth & Development David Lammy sending photo copies of All of Burnley Councils Petty Issues , caused by You challeging their Objections . IF I understood you , there was planning Permission granted to Demolish BURNLEY Issued an Enforcement Notice, DECLARED NULL & VOID, ( I would have Demolished right away as You Already Had Planning in Place to do so ) WHY DIDN'T YOU DO LIKEWISE, what made you go back to get Permission again , is there a time limit on Planning Permission , doesn't the Delay caused by Burnley not get allowed for by extending Planning Permission ..
Hey, the first application was to refurbish the property only, no demolition. We could have pushed the "rules" and done it wall by wall. We will hopefully be doing a updated video this weekend.
@@UKRestorationServices I thought I heard you say on the Post I watched you were going to demolish ,Inject Grout into Subsidence Areas & then Rebuilding .
Council muppets
Flexing their tiny muscles where they can. Whilst large developers get a free pass
Does it not defeat the purpose of using lime if you add cement to it?
Hey, we are simply using the lime in the flaunching mortar to make more sticky and bond better.
Great work there! Cool info on the roof solution, what is the issue with just lime for flaunching?
Hi, lime struggles to be able to cope with the weather elements on a chimney. Lime also cracks when applied in large areas, unless pinning stone are used to bulk it out. There is not breathability required, so may as well use a lime / cement based mortar.
Really enjoyed that.
Thanks for the comment 👍
Top job there pal,Was it cold up there?😅
Hey, yes very. The wind was so cold and doing leadwork you're not exactly straining yourself. It was defiantly up in the top 10.
Could you have applied the lime wash hot onto the lime render before it had fully dried?
Thanks for the comment. Added a few bits in the next video talking about your comment applying it hot. However, i would not advise painting lime render that has not dried. The problem is the limewash will not carbonate due to the damp render feeding it moisture. If you have a frost over the winter months the limewash will blister due to the high water content.
@@UKRestorationServices Ah, I see, thank you. I'll look out for the next video too. :)
Great job, guys💪🏼 How do these unforseen situations like the render refusing to dry affect your finish deadline? I presume there is a set deadline? Do you get penalised, financially or otherwise, for not finishing in time?
Hi, yes we are contracted under JCT for completion dates etc. However, it can be adjusted if circumstances arise. No penalties, the architects know the risks of working with historic buildings. We had a meeting before we started back and agreed a new completion date.
Awesome, thanks again! But with the renovations i do, its always dust, dust, dust, dust and......dust.
Thanks, cat iron dust is awful....seems really black and dirty. You're right any dust is bad for your. Mask up, its worth it for the later years. 👍
Lovely job, looked a real treat, well done.
Thank you, a very satisfying project to work on.
Looks like I missed the time when you, lads, changed this channel from a quality restoration videos to farming?
Hi, we are trying to include more content to the channel in general. When the channel was started we had a videographer working for the company, unfortunately the channel did not take off as we expected. We currently don't have anyone to spend along time videoing and editing. The thumbnails are hopefully designed to enable viewers to distinguish the video content. Please let us know if there is anything you would like to see.
I may have missed it but were the replacement roof timbers Douglas fir? I think in time those type of repairs will age well historically clearly showing the old v new rather than an entire replacement. The weight of that roof must be huge!
We have used a slow grown Douglas Fir on the repairs. Weight is around 1 ton per 5-6 sqm laid on the roof. I would think there is around 7-8 ton per side.
Great job! Thanks for sharing. Did someone in the past put some cement based pointing on the facade?
I thought the same when I first looked at the building. It is however a lime based ash mortar.
@@UKRestorationServices Ah ok, all good. Thanks!
Top job there fellas ,, Beautiful old church, Hows your wildlife tower doing? Did you get any owls visiting?
The barn owls are using the tower but not nesting in it. After building them the luxury pad....they decided to have 3 chicks in the house. The ecologist was out on site a few months ago and also found bats in the tower.
@@UKRestorationServices Brilliant, i knew it would be a success 👍

Hi, its amazing how many vital small details there are that people never see.
The cows aren't going to want to leave big daddy stud after 6 weeks.
Lucky lad with all them girls around him '👍
I'm renovating a 1850's brick terrace in Bolton, Geocell is now installed and at the stage of putting in the underfloor heating pipes then limecrete screed the floor. NHL 5 is ordered from Mike Wye but I only have a barrel mixer, do you hire out the auger mixer? It's a small area, less than 32 sq m at 150mm
Hey, apologies for not replying sooner. We have a towable pan mixer. if we are doing small areas we use the Baron mixers....maybe two of them. drop use an email if you need to hire anything.
1:28 we need horse hair in that floor not fiberglass 😂
I need to do this in my granite cottage; dig up the (thin) concrete floor, excavate then lay the glass and limecrete. I have a paddle mixer and plenty of quicklime kibble, so I'm tempted to use hotlime for the mix, possibly with pozzolans. I need to do more research though on compressive strength; my current information is that pure lime has a higher ultimate compressive strength than NHL due to the free lime content, but offset on the convenience side in terms of initial setting time. A thick floor isn't going to carbonate quickly. I'm wondering if a pozzolanic hotlime would be a reasonable compromise though. 🤔 I'm clearly still at the research stage! 🙂
I went up there when I was a kid???I snuck in when the bell ringers was given it rock all lol. But seriously my great grandfather was a stone mason and built the roof of frodingham road Crosby church. Then me in the 80s age 6 chipping bricks for the jahova witnesses on ferry road. Lol all churches we must respect.❤❤❤😂😂😂
Awesome, but how is the work on the church progressing?
Going good thanks, done loads of filming just not had chance to edit the videos. Hopefully get them out in the next week or so.
