Totally not a stupid question. If you are just playing the guitar part and you aren’t using the original track, your risk is lower, but isn’t non-existent. To be safe, you could always consider making some modifications to the original, like changing the tempo and pitch. If you want to keep it consistent with the original, just do some trial and error! Export the audio file with a still image to UA-cam to test it and see if it flags anything. If it does, modify the riff until it’s undetectable. Hopefully this helps, feel free to give more specifics on the riff if I can help more.

Hey man! Couple of things on this- first and foremost, there is zero impact on your channel until you reach the monetization phase. The copyright claim means the copyright owner will take some or all of the revenue from your video if and when you monetize it, that’s all. No other negatives. Assuming you want to monetize eventually, you will want to assess whether you should submit a dispute under fair use. I would get going on that now if your plan is to monetize, that way you don’t have to do it all later. The strength of the claim depends on the content (I.e. did you just play over the original, did you not use the original audio, did you add an educational component). The educational component is HUGE. On your 17 min Tears In Heaven tutorial for instance, if this got a copyright claim, you should 100% dispute it. You added significant value with the talk through of the music and significantly modified the original. You would submit a dispute noting just that. The success of getting the claim taken off is entirely dependent on the record company you are dealing with and is VERY judgmental, but I’ve found zero risk in submitting a dispute. No you aren’t tripping at all. I think debatably the rhythm is played in drop C the whole time. When I listened closely I heard the octave up, so I went with that, but wouldn’t be surprised if rhythm is drop C the whole way.

update: hearing the bends there in the original, I swear all I hear is a pitch shifter octave down Drop C, Bit crusher playing one note with bends in the breakdown section.

I’m sure you are right. There’s also going to be the bass part (inherently an octave down), which will muddy things a bit. I try to avoid things like shifting down a full octave to make the song a bit more accessible and playable, but I don’t disagree with what you are hearing.

@@Trads_Tabs so the bass is literally engaged with Distortion but you can't hear the low end in the mix but it was already blended in with the guitars which that's because of the volume balance between two individual tracks.

Yeah man, it’s just too good. It’s gotten me so fired up about creating music again. And I get it, the changer can be seen as a bit gimmicky, but there’s just so much talent there. And yeah, plankton has a man’s voice lol he hits the saturation so hard on the vox, the screams really pop.

You absolutely won’t have everything taken down. Worst case scenario it gets copyrighted and you can’t generate significant revenue from it. But tbh only the very top UA-camrs in this genre are making money worth mentioning, so I wouldn’t worry about that

You can do it! The hardest part is the main picking lick. Make sure to alternate between up and down strokes every time (takes practice). Check out the description for the effects (if you are playing on an amp). And FYI for the lead guitar, he’s using a slide. I don’t have one, but if you do, bust it out!

Haha thank you! I really take my time and slow the song down to 10-20% speed and take it chord by chord. Also, some instructors tend to oversimplify for beginners so it’s easier for people to learn. I consider myself more an intermediate instructor.
