I like to build things and make short cinematic sequences of my process. This content is not meant to be instructional or a step-by-step, in-depth overview of my builds. I make content purely for entertainment purposes, and do not claim to be an expert at any of the techniques shown here. Enjoy!

Ever since I got my first 3D printer 3 years ago, I’ve wanted to know the joy of designing my own models and building them on my own. I decided to take the leap and began learning Fusion 360. Up until this point, I had never created anything other than the course assignments. 2022 started with a bang because I decided to go for it not knowing what the outcome would be.
In this episode, I explore 3D design based on a concept I found in a book my lovely wife got me for my birthday last month. I then 3D printed it on my trusty Anycubic Photon Mono 4k for incredible results! Join me in this incredible journey that has many firsts for me and then enjoy the reveal of the final product!
I hope you enjoy the video!
Until next time!
xX Leo Nel Xx
P.S. And yes, I am still building my MG Barbatos, I promise! There are SO MANY PARTS… taking much longer than I’d like, but it’s coming!

great work!
Wonderful building of the DUNE ornithopter and the diorama.thank you for the Video.greetings from Vienna/Austria
If you have an airbrush you probably will move on from markers if you haven't already....
This was an excellent diorama! A few damage marks would have added another layer to it.
nahhh... You didn't even use it properly. it's kinda messy. The strokes are too visible.
If I want to erase some mistakes I made with the marker, what do I use? Will alcohol work?
Where do you get these?
Hey, great job on this print! I've been trying to print these Ornithopters in resin too, and I keep running into issues with the wings getting warped or sagging under their own length. Could you share how you got them to stay so straight?
I think the best way to remove stroke marks from this brush is to paint multiple times
To many paint can damage the plastic fyi
@@S.G-Greivous so u have to primer it then
💩
Honestly, you should just use industrial paint over this marker. Unless you are painting small parts.
The brushstrokes sucks, i prefer hobby mio..
Is it a must to use primer on the parts before using the markers to paint the plastic?
wow just wow , this is my first time here and I just had my mind blown by the attention to detail.
Thank you so much, so very kind of you!
@@LeoNelBuilds thank you for taking the time and patience to make these videos and share your art and process of creating things. This will surely inspire many more to create. So thank you. Have a fabulous day.
Dude you sound like gugafoods
Lmfao I was like he makes amazing steaks and beautiful gunpla kits
Krylon eww. Get some Tamiya or mr hobby clear.
This. Krylon can yellow over time and it's a beginner's trap. You think you're saving money buying a big can compared to the hobby specific ones, but the results are night and day. Save the hassle and get the better brands
Is it really need to top coat it after paint?
Yes !
I cannot figure out why you only have 1.87K subscribers. Your videos are incredible. Keep up the great work. FYI. I subscribed after the first video.
Downloaded file thank you so much!!!!, i have a question tho what size is your print?
Thanks so much, my friend! I printed mine at 10% size
Drop the settings bröther?
Cual es el nombre del tema musical?
I instantly had to get your STL's! Just wondering what slicer you used and what size you made the parts. I loaded the engine file and it fills the whole plate and actually hangs off a bit. I see in the vid that you have all four printing at once plus a few other parts...
Thank you for purchasing the STL project! You can use any slicer you wish, and then reduce the size as you see fit. In my case, I printed it as large as I could on my Anycubic Mono 4K so I think the files were reduced to 10% scale (around there)… u probably wouldn’t want any smaller than that because the tiny parts would be waaay small… also the pilot is a bonus file and you can print it on the seat so you won’t have to do too much sanding… have fun!
this video is so criminally underviewed.
Amazing 👏 😲
Damn fine work
Really appreciate the effort has taken....Keep doing, keep growing.i love it🧡🧡❤❤❤+ my SUB
Thanks so much man, I appreciate the kind words, glad you enjoyed the video!
great work again mate love the concept ship you chose and how it turned out
Finally got to watch this in it's entirety and you are Legend in the making bro! 🔥
Absolute mad lad 💯💯💯
Great work as always! :D
I love the message of the end! Cool! Thanks God for your gifts!
Dope!
First off, great job. But how did you remove the 'calf' from the leg to add the hydralics? Also, would your trick for the glass windows work with clear epoxy?
Amazingly excellent... as usual.
thank you, my brotha!
Fantastic work as always, Leo!
thanks so much bro!
Great build and great video production quality, mate!
Thank you, good sir!!!
Super well done! I'm honored you were inspired to build it. A simple design and you didn't shy away from adding complexity. Good to see some tasteful creative additions to the concept!
I am so honored that you’ve taken the time to watch my video and comment such kind words! I am ecstatic! Thank you for the gift of your art, the world is a nicer place because of it!
Epic work. Out of curiosity do you 3d model on a desktop, laptop, or tablet?
Also any resources you suggest to learn how to 3d model like this
@@jonathancerutti2546 hey man, thanks so much for stopping by! I use my Mac Mini M1... Fusion 360 is the weapon of choice, but I am starting to get into ZBrush and other more sculpt-oriented apps vs. engineering apps like Fusion (less complicated!)... I bought a course off of Udemy to learn Fusion and I'm not even a 3rd into the course but I've learned a lot of the basics, which allowed me to design this model. I'm currently working on my next project which is a bit more complex in terms of shapes and arrangements, so I say get a beginner's course on an educational site like Udemy, etc, and just start designing things and you'll start to get the hang of it... good luck!
Hey i saw this model on reddit when looking for mono 4k info. Its awesome
Haha thanks man! Yeah I’ve been posting some progress photos on Reddit, glad you found the video!
@@LeoNelBuilds its actually a reason i ordered my 4k mono abd now with that detailed cockpit im sure i made the right decision.
@@bertkooijmans4769 that’s fantastic!!! You’re gonna love it! Be willing to experiment and use up a bottle of resin to test settings and get them just right…
@@LeoNelBuilds yeah now looking at your other videos you print quite a bit it seems haha. Thank you for some awesome modeling.
Awesome!! 👍👍
thanks so much dude!
Great video and much appreciated. John Frye is an excellent artist/designer.
Thanks man! And yes, his work is Aw inspiring!
Brotha this turned out incredible. You did an amazing job ripping this right off the page and breathing life into it. Keep up the amazing work. If you don't mind me asking how did you learn/figure out how to do the LED's on this with the chip and what to connect where, how to get the lights to blink etc? And Happy Belated birthday!!!
MY DUDE! Thank you! I got the LED system directly from EvanDesigns.com and it came with everything I needed... the chip, the LED's, the wiring... I just had to assemble everything, place the LEDs where I wanted them, and connect everything and power it... it was easier than building an HG Zaku II... piece of cake! And thank you for the Bday wishes! Miss ya bro!
Great job Leo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
why thank you!
Awesome build Leo - man that is flippen beautiful
hey man! thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
So much win here, great resources used from some very talented designers, and you always create fantastic video productions of your work, thoughts, processes used, and then the final reveal! Love it all Leo, cheers!
MIKE! The Weathering Godfather himself! you honor me with your presence and your kind words, thank you for stopping by! I got a couple of lives to catch up on but you're a major inspiration to us mere mortals!
Not only is this an amazing video, but it has inspired me to try and make something in this style! Thank You and I cant wait to see what you do next! Maybe gundam related? llol
hey man thanks a lot! I am a hopeless lover of sci-fi themes, artifacts, vehicles and stories... I'm working on that Barbatos though so soon enough you'll see that drop as well!
This is beautifully crafted. The skills on those modelling, crafting, painting, and filming, everything comes together like it’s meant to be! This is truly a work of art, well done Leo! 👍
Hey man... thanks so much! You've been a big part of me getting into 3D modeling, so thank you for the inspiration and thank you for your kind words, as usual!
