Settle & Carlisle (Steam Special)
Переглядів 4,1 тис.Рік тому
This programme was made in 1988 and 1989 when the Settle to Carlisle Railway was under threat of closure. It was only ever released on VHS, not making it to DVD. Now it is a historic reminder of what we almost lost.

Julian Peters Talks about Ivo Peters and his Films
What a great man Ivo was wish i had met him thank you Julian
So impressive that the LNER Pacifics, even the Thompson one, flew past almost in mid-gear!
Saint Ivo Peters. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
This Engine Went into a Bomb Crater south of Coventry In November 1940
Superb footage. 👍👍👍
Didn't understand the continuity. I often walk by the Little Petherick creek bridge and oddly, dined in Little Petherick only last evening. Have friends who actually went to school on the train from Padstow to Bodmin.

Great footage great to see thanks 👍
Shame there's no sound...very interesting uploads but sadly only a few views.
@ 7-27...looks like Weston-Under-Penyard Halt if you look at the platform wooden boards....as seen on the wikipedia images of this tiny station. And notably a reasonably short walk to get there from the village. But the next stop Mitcheldean Road was two miles from that particular village. The wiki entry states the line was closed due to the Beeching axe....but in truth, blame only fast declining passenger numbers.
Very interesting film...but no sound?
Amazing, we had everything then, compared with today, which is horrible in almost every respect, possible, great views of that power station and yards, incredible scenes..
Great video, just been looking at the new Snow Hill station, has this whole line been rebuilt through all the stations in your video, or only some sections...?
Crystal clarity. 👍🏻😄
Interesting seeing flying moneypit with tender corridor connection malfunction.!
Sorely requires some commentary.
Passing 2 1/2 gallons of petrol and not yet a quid!! 😵💫😵
loved seeing the A2/2 60504 Mons Meg at full chat!
How tidy the p/w is, compared with today?
Excellent and subscribed. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic this, brings back memories of my childhood with my brother and two sisters riding the trains up and down the coast.
Thank you for this beautifully restored vid - a wonderful piece of social history, so on some level the line still lives on. Love the view back to the buffer stops at St James - plus the trip on from Kingham to Chippy which survived for another 6 weeks. Remember the Langston Arms Hotel at Kingham, serving Garnes(?) beer - with its own special bridge across from the hotel bar to the station. Happy Cotswold days..
The good old days , take me back there ❤
That was a real work of art, so beautiful and hypnotic 🤩👏🙏
Very nice, great to see the old videos
Excellent on board footage behind Green Arrow. I wonderful and superb loco. Got a real soft spot for her, shame its not in steam anymore?
Wonderful Karl, I remember this day as one of those special S & C days
Yes Austin, the northbound run behind 777 in the snow was exceptional too.
Sure was, I captured it at Horton curve and Lunds Paddock where you could hardly see a thing! I'll have to polish the clip up and upload it
What an excellent video, 'she' sounds superb. Of all the 'big' LNER engines, the V2 topped my list by far. A true 'workhorse' indeed. Bet you were chilly hanging out, been there and done it dozens of times during those halcyon days of dropped carriage door windows. Thanks for sharing.👍👌🤌
Great stuff anything near paddington to show, anyone?
3.59 Bournville
At 3.18, King's Norton.
a year before the algorithm feeds me the video! Rather haunting but very enjoyable. There may be some AI software available that can clean up the original footage, erase those damaged tape sections and smooth it out perhaps. That Bus on the track was really....weird!
Not sure what the H&S executive would make of the signal post being demolished.
Colour!!!!! As well, must have been a real film enthusiast, we are lucky really to have a film of this even though there’s no sound
Nice to see some west of England stuff in its latter days. Had to smile at the ol pep pipe (35007), always was a good tool to put out lineside fires. Have done xactly same at Bodmin n Swanage on occasion in the past. Those were the days too when common sense prevailed !!! Thanks for the excellent n varied footage.😊
Part of the old Great Northern line from Nottingham and Deby Friargate with running rights over the North Staffordshire railway to Uttoxeter, and then on to the Stafford terminus.
Fantastic!
Fantastic!
Happy days without Candycrush!
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this and the footage of Selly Oak and Bournville, Kings Norton. Just fantastic!!!
Great to see, albeit briefly, Brent station Devon, circa 1959 looks favourite
an absolute sh1thole and yet.... no graffiti! the modern urban sh1thole is even worse now as the taggers plaster everything in sight with their stupid scribbles
Superb, especially the final part , Peterborough. We used to watch from the former loading bay underneath Crescent Bridge, or crossover the bridge to River Lane. Alas, the City of Peterborough , like the railway merely a shadow of its former self.
I wonder if I could obtain your permission to incorporate this excellent footage into a film I am making about the route? I would credit your work onscreen, of course. Best wishes.
3:13 Wow! I walk up the abandoned railway line frequently to shop at Lidl. Amazing to see how it used to look.
Does anyone know where the accident occured?.
A lot different from today's soulless commuter haven
Never did ride this train but watched it many times from Rock on the other side of the estuary - Saw them set fire to the stubble in the fields more than once
When I was a child we were told whilst on the train , " if you open that door you'll die " I'm still alive. I'd say the people on the track will be too because they lived in a time where common sense was , well common .
such a shame
