Born in 1982 10 August fantastic video to watch of mainline heritage steam of where almost every variety of preserved locos apart from some of the preserved tank engines were allowed to run mainline such as G.W.R. manors halls and even 7325 at the S.V.R. until the rule of having T.P.W.S. came into power in 2006. Happy mainline days in the 70,s 80,s and 90,s seeing engines like 4468 mallard out and the midland 1000 compound 4.4.0 one of my favourite locos preserved. And 4930 Hagley hall still plodding away on the S.V.R. after another overhaul despite the S.V.R. pulled out of mainline steam quite some time ago.
Only two words BLOODY AMAZING!! Lovely to see the semaphore signals especially at my old box Taunton West Station where I had been a booking lad before becoming a fully fledged signalman. Within 2 years it had all gone and signal boxes in the area demolished. 😥
I often look back at the Swindon crisis that soggy summer and what we could've got there instead of Salisbury had it not been boycotted. A lot, including four derelict 46s in the con yard.
Epic video and journey witnessed by staggering crowds. Big appreciation to all connected with the recording and posting of it.

Great video. Very sad that we will probably never see this combination on the Main Line again. ☹️
Great video, amazing lineside crowds on whole trip, no HS other than a few coppers.
Great memories ... was on this memorable trip - thanks for sharing. Never seen video from the lineside at Hemerdon to view the epic ascent.
Amazing weekend, I was at the top of Hemerden and Whitehall.
Wonderful stuff & not a mobile phone in sight !!
Not a lot in sight through their exhaust; either they had very poor coal or there is some poor firing going on.

Took the steeper Dainton much more easily than Hemerdon; wonder why.
