- At Midsomer Norton Station site we look back at how the station once looked and in the restored station building we hear about Ivo Peters and his famous film collection from his son Julian.
Bless Ivo Peters. His films take me back to a world that was comprehensible, unhurried and aesthetically so pleasing.🎥
Saint Ivo Peters. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you for a fantastic view my father's slides say where when who etc his were scenery in Scotland or Dale's but when you read the entry in the little book and the note on the slide card (35mm) and Box Index Card it gives me shiver as it is as he is standing next to me and showing me what he saw.
Details bring it to life. And dated means you can identify many very dear and long departed loved ones clearly.
We devotees of the S&D are forever grateful to Julian for arranging to put his father's films onto DVD and providing the voice over so that we could follow. Really good of him to be no longer just a voice on the video and to appear in the flesh to tell us of Ivo's technique and preparation. The films bring back those wonderful days as a child of travelling down from Manchester on the Pines My father had a Voiglander still camera in the 1950s, mechanical of course, and a Weston light meter. He also was always fiddling with the latter in order to get the exposure correct. I imagine that Ivo''s meticulous attention to detail came out of his being in the army. Many thanks for this.
It is absolutely incredible just how far technology has come in such a short space of time. Ivos material is iconic and his photography was the driving force behind me becoming interested in railways, particularly the S&D.
For me, the most important railway photographer. Ivo Peters recorded every inch of the S & D in stills or movie, including many of the people who devoted their working lives to it. He knew he was recording history, not only with his pictures but also with his captions, which help us to understand how the railway operated. Priceless material - he should have been knighted.
What a great man Ivo was wish i had met him thank you Julian
I found this video very interesting as I started cine’ filming in 1966, using a Bolex B8 camera.
Glad to see you are keeping well Julian. Best wishes, Steve Williams (Britannia High School, Blackheath)
He had a natural charm.
