Tackling Regain, Update 2 | My Gastric Bypass Journey
I'm working on tackling some regain and bad habits that have tried to crawl back, and I'm trying to do it in a way that doesn't drive me insane since I'm getting married in less than 3 weeks.
I had RNY Gastric Bypass on December 1, 2020 at Mexico Bariatric Center in Tijuana Mexico with Dr. Rodriguez Lopez.

December is so much fun, and I've never been one who is super good at balance 😅 so sporadic posting FTW! It's been two years, can you even believe it? I'll put together a much more in-depth look at my 2-Year Surgiversary, but for now I wanted to provide a bit of a 24-Month December Update and be a bit vulnerable and talk about some of the mental health struggles that may be common with this typ...
I woke up at 5AM for 30 days and this is what happened | My Gastric Bypass Journey
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Рік тому
I challenged myself to wake up at 5AM every day in hopes of finding more time in my life. I think it's a human condition, to feel like we struggle with not having enough time in the day to accomplish what we want and to be what we want, let alone to do the things we NEED to do. My hopes were to carve out more time by getting up earlier in the morning, but is that just going to leave me frazzled...

No one really likes to talk about the mental toll that large weight loss comes with. This isn't just about hormones and physical changes; it has to do with deep-rooted emotions and fundamental crucible moments that forged who I was as a person and who I felt I had to be in order to protect myself emotionally, and as those layers peel away and I start to chip away at that, it leaves me in a very...

October was a doozy of a month and not only was it busy, stressful, and absolutely FULL of stuff, it was also an extremely informative and eye-opening month for me. Even 23 months post-op, I'm still learning and growing and struggling. It is, after all, the human experience and to expect that to end or slow down a year after surgery would be silly. This is a longer and heavier video today but I...

I did my final hike of the season and really had a bit of an over-inflated sense of my abilities. This was probably the hardest thing I've ever done, and certainly was the hardest hike. I am scheduled for surgery on 6/4. It's great to hear that this is not a quick fix. It still will take work. I want to have eyes wide open. Check out Dr. V on UA-cam. He's a world renowned Bariatric surgeon. His videos are inspiring and make lots of sense. He recommends a green smoothie for breakfast every day. Yep, everyday... forever. For lunch eat a (little) big ass salad w/ protein, and dinner, eat whatever you want, but a palmful of food only. No snacking! Whatsoever. It's unnecessary. Fill your pouch with the most nutrient dense foods possible for long term health and wellness. His plan is holistic. He strongly recommends adding in meditation, gratitude journaling and goal setting. Check him out if you are interested. His full name is Dr Duc Vuhong. I've been binge watching his videos for the last 3 days. I wish you all the best!

    I have PCOS and WLS doesn’t fix that, so ‘keto’ for life for me. And as long as I have fat on my body, by body can ‘eat’ that for fuel. ;) my brain feels best low carb. Our bodies don’t need white cane sugar to survive.

    Please people do your research and ask your doctor. She is not a physician and these are her opinions and yes she did some research but not enough true medical research and actual science based research. Carbonation is unhealthy for anyone truly, the stomach yes can stretch out over time and eating too much food all the time. She had this done in Mexico…. Gas X is good to use when your physician recommends it. Again be careful when taking advise from someone else as this is her opinion!!!!!

    I have naturally EXTREMELY thick hair and I always would complain how long it took to wash and dry and style. Every stylist I’ve gone to has basically charged me double for the service. But now Ive lost 75% of my hair… and still falling. I hate this surgery in every form of its existence. I feel terrible all the time.. my knees don’t hurt anymore from my weight but that’s all. I hear the word food and I panic from knowing I’m gonna feel sick after and probably throw up. I know many people who are so happy with the surgery but it didn’t work for me. Mentally emotionally and physically I am in actual regret.

    She is nice lovely girl but still eats carbs as crackers. She focused on weight of food but more importantly is the quality of foods, the timing and frequency how many times we eat even same amount of food and calories. Intermittent fasting healthy life style to deal with root cause of obesity even after gastric surgery. Body weight is just one thing but metabolically healthy is more important and needs education and application. The food she eats mostly processed foods. We should eat natural whole foods no human beings produced it and sold it in plastic containers.

    • @1FatBeet
      @1FatBeet 12 днів тому

      I'm not allowed to enjoy a cracker now and then? Look, if that works for you, please by all means. It doesn't work for me to cut that out of my life completely. We have to all find the balance of what is realistic in our lives, and then I put in the work to make small improvements over time. We are all doing the best we can.

    • @1FatBeet
      @1FatBeet 12 днів тому

      Also, just a disclaimer: please do not intermittent fast after bariatric surgery without consulting your doctor and ensuring your nutrient intake and vitamin levels are okay to support that kind of change.

    Ya know, I got roux en y 24 yrs ago. The thing that upsets me on these short term reviews. You have no idea how important it is to change your diet. FOREVER! I had to get to get off bariatric support groups because most folks can't wait to get back to a crappy Just less volume. Please never stop taking your vitamins. I moved to an area that had no bariatric support. The majority of pcp's do not understand nutrition. You will need macro and mico nutrient bloodwork every year. B12 intermuscular injections are the " gold standard" .I have tried to find help in Maine after finding out I was deathly deficient. It starves you and effects mental health. Your Bio gut is destroyed. You no longer regulate your metabolism. Please ask questions on the internet about B12 and iron deficiencies and issues with hormones, increased inflammation, brain fog. I never worried about my vitamins and my systems started to shut down. 24 yrs later... Im a long term study. Just be aware!

    • @1FatBeet
      @1FatBeet 12 днів тому

      I would just like to add: yes, some PCPs don't understand nutrition as much as we would hope. But don't just ask questions on the internet about B12 and iron. My doctor has been able to help me increase and decrease my vitamins based on what my body needs, not just a "gold standard" approach.

    I wish I could have watched this as a live stream and had some back and forth. Yes, the 80-20 rule is very true for weight loss. The reason why exercise is stressed for those who are undergoing, or have undergone, weight loss surgery is (according to the literature given to me for the program I'm in) for the same reason we're asked to make protein such a big part of our diet--to protect our muscles, because the body wants to go there first for energy unless we 'force it' to go to fat instead.

  • @Page2PlateMyVSGStory-kg9rs
    @Page2PlateMyVSGStory-kg9rs 27 днів тому

    As for the protein thing, I watched a Dr. Alvarez video that was just posted (May 9, 2024) where he said 'normal' people should have 1 gm of protein per kilogram of your 'healthy' body weight, but that those who've had weight loss surgery should aim for 1.5-2 grams of protein per kilogram of our 'healthy' weight (I'm assuming he means our healthy weight according to BMI). We need the extra protein to protect our muscles when we're intaking such low calories and losing weight quickly. He did say it's possible to overdo it, but when you think about it, 2 gms per kg of healthy body weight means we can safely have quite a lot. I never heard anyone talking about the actual amounts before, so I just wanted to add it here.

  • @Page2PlateMyVSGStory-kg9rs
    @Page2PlateMyVSGStory-kg9rs 27 днів тому

    My understanding is, as you say, it has to do with comfort, especially right after surgery when the stomach is still healing. And with a lot of these things - carbonation, using straws, chewing gum, etc, I have heard a bariatic surgeon recently say that it is because of the extra air intake making you feel bloated and uncomfortable before your stomach is healed, but you can reintroduce them down the road. So, though this video was posted a couple of years ago, everything you're saying still holds true. Thanks for educating those (like me) in the research phase.
