@@tristanclark4124 happy to help
Thanks for your video! Will appreciate your comments re Brita Pro whole home water softener units.
@@hemantmodi5239 from what I can see on the website it appears to be a clack valve. Don’t be fooled by these companies claiming to have something special. Typically it’s a relabeled unit brida doesn’t manufacturer their own unit it’s just relabeled. If price is reasonable and it’s available in your area it is going to serve you well. If you are purchasing a carbon filter Make sure you get the correct carbon for the water you have. Mono chlorine and chlorine are not the same. You can request from your water provider a detail of the water quality to know what is in your water
so you dont have to turn the gas off to the water heater ?
Not necessary because you aren’t draining the water in this scenario the connections are at the top so water cannot escape from the heater. If you’d dealing with a different set up you may want to do so. Be aware sometimes when you shut down a gas to the control valve it may not relight. We do recommend if you are intimidated call a professional
@@CharlesShurbetAlohaPlumbingATX thanks… All I’m trying to do is Tee off of the supply line and run about 18 feet of pipe to feed my pressure washer…. thanks
Thank you for comparing the real selection we are stuck seeing at box stores. Tired of these repetitive videos telling me why I need soft water and not answering the differences of units. I have extremely hard water (500ppm), weak flow, and small cabinet softener in a purchased home. Confident the separate resin tank softener will solve my issues.
The quality difference really is incomparable. I hope you are able to find what you are looking for.
Your video is good & really helpful to folks because you mentioned to turn off the water completely to the house.
I was liberally spraying WD40 and praying when mine was seized. This worked great, thank you so much.
Awesome glad that worked for you.
Have beautiful nw washer Ruined clothes cause hot and cold water were reversed and just did a load of colors in scorching hot water I wanna switch them
Swap the hoses at the valves it’s the easiest. The machine has plastic threads more likely to cross thread. It’s not uncommon for the hot and cold to be reversed. If the machine was hooked up correctly at least it’s a relatively easy fix. Good luck
Thanks 4 the video. I was able to get my washer undone without waiting for my husband.
Awesome
What do you think about the Vortech tank which combines carbon and resin combined in the same tank?
I am not a fan of those. The reason is mixing media isn’t a great idea it’s not efficient. You are better off either utilizing a carbon filter canister style. Or utilizing a second carbon stand alone that has a head to back flush.
What’s the draining process ? So you don’t have water everywhere ?
Turn off water to the home. Drain at hose bib outside or inside. I always use a small bucket to catch any water at the connection.
Thank you, the better unit makes sense if hook up is not a problem.
@@cj4freedom856 thanks
Does the tank need to be drained completely before doing this repair??
In his scenario the connections are at the top so gravity will keep the water in the tank. No you dont need to drain the tank unless your connections are on the side of the water heater where water would be allowed to drain out when disconnected
@@BlueMonster-co7ib thank you sir!!
This just saved my marriage
Thanks for the video! Luckily was able to wrench off the water lines without the saw. Any advice on how to keep the knobs ( shut off) from freezing?
Not 100% sure what you are asking. How to keep knobs from freezing? Can you describe some more detail plz?
@@CharlesShurbetAlohaPlumbingATX the water shut off valves were hard to turn off. They aren’t used frequently so they were almost frozen in place from hard water.
@@user-lt1rq6nt7w here is a tip never turn the valves to 100% open. When you get to the point of 100% and you feel the valve won’t turn any further turn the handle back clockwise half a turn. This will prevent the valve from scaling open and becoming impossible to turn in the future
Thank you! When res life at college installed the washer they switched the hot and cold line 🥲😭
Happy to help
This tip, which I've never seen ANYWHERE else, really saved me tonight! It's nearly 3am and now I can finally go to bed. Seriously, this video saved me! THANK YOU!
You can also heat the connection slightly with a propane torch, or grill lighter, this will expand the metal and soften any debris inside the connection, will loosen right up.
Yes that’s true heat can loose it. These days with thin plastics. I am not making a video of that. Have everyone mad at me for burning the house down.
Thank you me and my sister wanted to do it for dad and we got it
You are good daughters. Glad it helped
I could’ve figured that out. I was wondering how to get it unscrewed, not cut off lol
This is when it’s seized on and won’t unscrew. If you don’t know how to unscrew a hose I don’t think UA-cam can help you
Hi there thanks for the video but why the cold water suply line has a valve ?
Hello you’re welcome. The reason for the shut off valve on the cold is to service the heater and to isolate the hot water in case of needed service. Here in the USA it’s a requirement and standard practice.
Great thanks for the info very helpful video I really appreciated. God bless
Would have been helpful to name brands and prices. Now I'm going to another channel for that info.
Good luck with your search.
You’re a bum
How’s the shark bite holding up six years later 😊
If PROPERLY (and that’s the key)installed probably still ok. It’s poor installation that’s gonna cause problems in most installations. Not following the proper steps. However I stand on sharkbite is not a viable option for permanent solutions.
@@CharlesShurbetAlohaPlumbingATX thanks for your response! I’ve used shark bite in some minor applications and it has held up. I do agree with you as I don’t love it as a permanent solution. For a novice like me it has helped.
I want Charles in charge of me. Great video.
Thank you glad to be of service
Thanks so much for this video! After buying my 3rd washing machine in the 7+ years of living in my current home, I figured I shouldn’t avoid taking the old hoses off any longer even though they were seized on. After buying a more appropriate hacksaw it didn’t take too long to remove both hoses. I started with the hot water hose and unfortunately I did lightly cut the hot water thread. I’m hoping some teflon tape will help prevent leaks when I put the new hoses on. I was more cautious with the cold water hose and thankfully didn’t nick those threads.
If its not deep the seal is on the front flat surface where the hose gasket seats. If that isnt severally damaged likely it will be ok.
Thank you so very much ! You made the video where one could see up close. What a life saver!!
Happy to help
What do you think about the Hague Watermax?
Not a fan of Hague systems. But I have seen them making soft water for years. Due to their antique design the flow rate is not great through their systems. They are more complicated to repair. I would not say a terrible choice better than some.
Hi, when working on the cold supply line, no need to empty the tank? Thank. I am going to replace my cold supply line.
Yes that is correct you do not need to drain the tank as long as the connection is at the top. You will still lose some water so have a rag and a small container ready. Best of luck
@@CharlesShurbetAlohaPlumbingATX Thank you,
@@CharlesShurbetAlohaPlumbingATX Yes, both of the lines are on the top. Will it work for the hot line too? Thanks.
@@bobhong2175 yes but you don’t have to install one with a valve. They make them in just supply line no valve
You should have more views. The LAST thing I think about is a 2' hose behind my washer seizing. You are the only one who describes exactly how far to cut into the end when lubricants and a wrench simply don't work. Thank you for not whipping out an angle grinder or a blow torch because I hate buying more tools. 😂
Just happy to help
too dark, too shakey
Maybe we should hire a professional crew for these FREE videos that are designed for the DIY crowd.
Thanks for posting. I had the same idea but wanted to see if there was any other way. I used a Dremel instead of a hack saw though. Once I got a little split, it came right off.
A dremel or side cutting tool is a much faster way. It’s just a little easier to cut too much. If you choose to to use one just take your time. Good for you got it done.
Best video on YT ,
Thank you
thank you! i work at appliance park and i was about to buy our ge brand that looks similar to the crappy one. well, back to the drawing board and find another brand
You know like i said in the video if you have a small home and you are installing yourself it makes soft water its just a disposable unit. Its not the worst idea just making a decision based on good information. Hope your project goes well
For Me It's Kinetico
Glad your happy with your product. However a little research would reveal kinetico is hands down one of the poorest built over priced under engineered softeners on the planet. The theory is great but the actual product leaves a lot to be desired. A proprietary product is one where the purchaser has only one option for service and repair. In my professional opinion I am not of fan of that either.
Lazy. "Temporary repair". When your right there and do not cut a pipe straight, do it right. De-burring and cleaning the pipe still leaves a sharp edge to cut and O-ring. File it smooth. Shamefull
Thanks for the comment. Thats why it was sanded and de-burred. Sanding is acceptable for smoothing the copper to not damage the oring. Its also a very temporary fix not intended for long term. A true professional would not leave a sharkbite connection as a permanent repair.
Great video! After our washer installers failed to complete the job my wife and I took care of buisness with help from your video.
Very nice. Glad it helped
My delivery guys refused to even try. Against policy 🤷🏼♀️which I understand. I don’t have a saw like this. I have a jigsaw 🤔. But I’m not good with it. I spent $16@ ace for this spray that hadn’t worked so far. Thank you for the video & tips!!
Thanks
You are welcome
The screw in chlorine inserts leak at the top every time I flush. Let's a little chlorine into the tank. Any solution for this?
I believe there is a oring on that it may have been compromised. Unscrew it put some vegetable oil on it put it back In. If that doesn’t stop the leaking maybe another chlorine cartridge
vaseline works if you put it liberally on the o-ring AND the housing.
Any update for 2023?
What kind of update are you looking for?
Vaccuum breaker?
Thanks for the comment. Yeah this was a video showing how to replace the hose bib. Vacuum breakers are not code everywhere nor are they required on every application. I have to agree should have one.
This video got me to accomplish with $7 of vinegar what some plumbers wanted over $400 to do. Thanks a million.
Glad you were able to do it yourself.
This is helpful
Those stinking hoses. Glad you got em
Your video saved the day from me having to call a plumber!!!!! Thank you so much!!❤
Mission accomplished
Excellent video and to the point. The hacksaw worked great! Almost gave up, but didn't!
Nice job.
What brands would you recommend for systems that consumers can buy without going through a dealer? I want to buy a system and have a plumber install in a 2.5 bath pre-plumbed home.
The clack valve is my favorite. Most reliable on the market. Look for that brand when making your decision. In order to know proper sizing the hardness and the pipe size of loop is needed. Most plumbing supply wholesalers will have a good softener available.
Thanks for making this video it helped me fix my problem
Nice. Mission accomplished
First off, he failed to clean any of the filters, cold/hot water or the screen. He also failed to turn the recirculating pump back on. Cleaning the screen and filters is mandatory also he did not check the heat exchange or black plate for grease..Navien recommends this as part of the descaling process
Thanks for pointing that out. I did actually say to reverse the process. The inlet filters are a good idea to check as well. At the time of This video the heat exchangers were not a known issue. This video is simply how to descale. Have a great day.
Thanks- saved me a bunch of money. Was way easier than i thought
Awesome. Glad to hear it.
The Sharkbite measuring tool is also a deburring tool. Twist it around a few times to cut a taper in pipe so a sharp edge can't cut the sharkbite gasket when inserted.
Very good info. That’s true it does. We use a standard debuting tool so I forget that tool has that capability. Good I for for the DIY homeowner
Is it safe for the pipe to touch the duct coming from the tank? My HVAC tech and plumber had a different opinion about it.
Not seeing your situation makes it hard to answer 100%. As long as it’s not a flammable or material that will melt that won’t hurt. However If we are talking about a water line it can cause corrosion over time. It only needs a 1” separation if it’s the water from the vent pipe. Hope that helps
Thank-You for breaking that down! Can the typical home owner buy the more quality system and install it themselves or does it have to be by a business?
Anyone can buy a softener. They are available either online or at a local plumbing supply. Just be sure you get a clack manufacturer. They are sold under different brands. Locally in this area Gemini is a brand sold at Morrison plumbing supply.
Check with your local city about the code for installing a system yourself
@@onenikkione Bla bla bla
@@onenikkione good point. In the state of texas a homeowner can install almost anything in their home as long as it is their homestead. They can pull permits as well.
