Not you convincing me to put Blood Meridian on my January TBR

Either David Copperfield- because it gave me all the feels, or The Count of Monte Cristo - it was an exciting adventure with a complex plot.

Loved this. So funny. I like WOT a lot but completely agree with your criticisms. I read most of the books when I was a teen then paused in 2000 after reading book 9, deciding to wait to read the rest after they all came out. I reread books 1-9 a couple of years ago and am hoping to read the last 5 in 2025. In my most recent reread, I did find the characters and romances a lot more annoying than I did previously. I’m not sure if my tolerance was higher two decades earlier or I didn’t find them as annoying. I still appreciate the story and enjoy trying to figure out who all the forsaken are though.

I agree though that Persuasion is excellent, and Pride and Prejudice is better. Roadside Picnic is on my want to read list, but not yet on my shelves. I’ll keep an eye out for it. I have been vacillating over reading The Road, and ALMOST bought it in the Boxing Day 20% off sale. Sounds like I should pick up a copy

Well, I am driving around in South Florida listening to this and my car AC is not working and it’s 85 degrees and I am sweating my ass off. The coldness of the video is not psychologically affecting me as I thought it would. But you have good taste nonetheless. I read Roadside Picnic this year. Great. I read Piranessi also. It was all right. I wish she turned that into a huge book with footnotes like Jonathan Strange, and that book should have been short and whimsical like this one. Blood Meridian is one of my favorites of all time. I read McCarthy’s Child of God followed by Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying and that was one surreal southern gothic nightmare.

Boy do I agree about Judge Holden. I read Blood Meridian in the mid-90's and he still gives me the chills.

Great list! The Road was my book of the year in 2019. I also love Guards! Guards!, The Murder at the Vicarage, Dark Matter, The Tainted Cup, Roadside Picnic, The Ember Blade, Piranesi, and Persuasion. My favourite book this year was The Will of the Many.
