How to change the power steering fluid on your car
Can changing the power steering fluid help quiet down a whining I'm getting with the wife's Dodge Journey? We're going to see if we can swap out her fluid with a new tool that I bought and make it sound a little better. You can do this on your own car, just make sure that you use the correct fluid! Not all cars take the same fluid, so you have to either check your manual or the cap on the reservoir.
Things you'll need:
A way to suck out the fluid from the reservoir
Plenty of new fluid - at least 1-2 qts
A container to collect and properly dispose of the old fluid (you can do this at any auto parts store where they take used oil)

Toledo Flying DJI Mini 3/The Venues

I took my DJI mini 3 drone out for a spin around Toledo Ohio to explore some industrial buildings of the past. It’s so much fun to see the advertisements painted on the buildings that have faded like the past. I was lucky enough to get invited into one of the buildings I was filming, so I took some GoPro footage within The Venues. It’s a renovation project that is creating a space for people to...

3.6 Pentastar PCV replacement with updated parts

I noticed when I was doing spark plugs on my wives journey that the intake manifold had oil inside. The only thing that can really let that much oil in is a bad PCV valve. It is certainly not the old style cheap valve, but it is still a replaceable item. Let's replace m...

    I just did the alternator on mine. If you have another person you can actually get under there with out taking the tire off. Stick your wrench in the tensioner pully.... and have your buddy slip the belt off the alternator. Then, pull the bolts from the alternator (from the top) and pull it right out the top. Don't even mess with the ac compressor.

      Thanks for the compliment. I actually have learned most of the things I have on this car by just tackling it head on. But in your case I would just replace the post catalytic O2 sensor for bank one. But since the car is a 4 cylinder you should only have two O2 sensors. I wouldn't waste the money if you don't have to. Now, that being said, there is always the possibility that the other one could fail, but since it is for the heating aspect, I think you should be fine. Thanks again for watching and let me know if I can be of any further help.

    My understanding is the OAD pulley is usually the culprit and not the alternator itself. Changing the pulley does require a special puller though and still requires pulling the alternator. I also found it easier to remove and reinstall the alternator from above on my 2012. I attempted the removal from below and just could not get enough clearance to pull the alternator out. An E7 Torx bit works perfectly to remove the corresponding bolts.

    You have the best video on this subject of any other videos I watched. We have been doing it this way for a few years and it works so much easier than going in from the top. You don't lose any coolant doing it this way and it takes less time to do it this way. My 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan has 252,000 miles on it and we just finished putting the 5th alternator in it this afternoon. The idiot engineer who thought it was a good idea to put the alternator in this position needs a kick in the pants. They must have been the same dip stick who designed the battery terminals.

    that is only 3.5 quarts, you need to flush out all 18 quarts until it comes out cherry red. that means you have 15 old quarts still in there, which is like pissing in the wind with 3 new quarts..... ua-cam.com/video/3dOyYHCerG8/v-deo.htmlsi=nPrpcOvGhIPZVjst This is the "proper" way to do it, getting it all out...

      I do like the way that you did it, It definitely takes longer to flush out all the fluid with repeated drain and fills 3 1/2 quarts each time. But hey, thanks for the extremely positive feedback. 👍🏼

      The other side is a little bit harder. You still use the same idea, but have to press the control arm down further, it takes more effort to get it out. But it is the same basic concept.

    What should I try if I can’t get the green cam lock in but my engine is in time?

    • @copenhagenblue8417
      @copenhagenblue8417 4 місяці тому

      I have seen a few people use zip ties to hold the cams in position once they are aligned. This at least ensures that the cams wont accidently turn and hit the pistons. If I couldn't find a kit, that is the method I would use. I wonder if you could find someone who could 3D print it.

      On my kit the paint was THICK on the cam locks. I took off all the paint with a wire wheel and they went in much easier.

    If you change the filter on a car that is long overdue for a transmission fluid change / a filter change, won't it potentially cause transmission slipping issues in the future?

    • @BehexagusTheGreat
      @BehexagusTheGreat 4 місяці тому

      I know several people have asked a similar question but for me it's specifically the filter I'm wondering about. I don't know if it's better to keep the old filter with your change and allow the stuff in the old filter to mix with your new fluid + some of the old fluid still in the transmission or if it would be better to go a little cleaner and get a new filter and allow the remaining old fluid in the system solely do the 'mixing' part.

      @copenhagenblue8417 4 місяці тому

      I guess it really depends on what you believe will happen. Some people think that it will ruin the transmission because all the little particulates from the clutch material is what’s giving your transmission “grip” the clutch packs. The other thought process is that if putting in new fluid causes your transmission to fail, it was really already on its way out. I have found that changing out the fluid completely including a filter has worked better for me than changing it without replacing the filter. There’s a video I have on here of a Volkswagen beetle that had some shifting issues when I bought it, I replaced both the filter and the fluid and it has done extremely well. I seem to only make smaller gains on the transit by doing the fluid and no filter. I also would think that the mileage at which you decide to make the decision matters. If the car had close to 200,000 miles on an original transmission, I’d probably change the fluid but not the filter. If you’re catching it a little bit after 100,000 miles I would do both.
