Why I upgraded to fast BT Fibre 900 broadband

Why I upgraded to fast BT Fibre 900 broadband
Thank you for the pppoe to Mac shortcut. I just got the package and the router is 2.5Gbps on 1 port - not sure about the others but I can use this hack if not.
Your testing is flawed as you are bottlenecked by your broadband. If you have one you should be running a speed test between 2 computers (laptop / Desktop / Server) as this will eliminate the bottleneck. Also i am not convinced the EE Pro router is using MLO as in WiFi properties on my W11 desktop no aggregated speed or multiple channels is showing as connected where as on my Asus WiFi 7 router i was connected on either 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz or 5Ghz and 6 Ghz with a aggregated connected speed. If thsi is true then teh Pro from EE is not really WiFi 7 as MLO is a requirement of teh standard from my understanding. Last thing to point out your iPhone 7 is running a crippled version of WiFi 7 as it only supports a channel bandwidth of 160Hz and not the full 320Hz supported by WiFi 7 and provided witrh other WiFi 7 devices such as teh Galaxy s24 Ultra or windows devices
❤❤❤❤ loved your work on❤❤
Very informative❤❤❤
Completely irrelevant to most US customers with iPhones as we don’t use physical sims for iPhone 14 or newer. We are looking for esim when we land in Abu Dhabi and going to Dubai for two weeks. Need data and also some free local calls and texts
Hi I have just up grade to the 7 My old one was up too 500mbps but never got anything near that , 260 Mbps. Ee say I have 500 Mbps coming into my home but only get tye about. I am up garding on Friday too the 7. Ee say it me tv or wiring connections that is the problem. Any help before I try the new one😊

Please note that you now get 10 GB of data to use within 24 hours with the du SIM provided at immigration. The du website does indicate that this could be a limited offer.
I use TP Link Omada system hooked directly to the Ethernet from the ONT, and on WiFi 6 I get 1.2-1.3 GBps, and wired, full 1.7-1.8 GBPs.
Can I ask how you got EE to supply you with the new pro router, I am on the busiest home package 1.6gbps for 12 months and I am trying to get the router upgraded but after 3 weeks 10 phone calls, I have ended up with 2 ee plus Wi-Fi extenders rather than a pro hub, unbelievable Ee service. Thanks
Hi John, You need to speak to the broadband team that deals with customers on 1.6Gbps. Inform them that you need the full 1.6Gbps speed over Ethernet and that the current Smart Hub Plus router can't do this due to its 1 Gbit Ethernet ports.
@ Thanks very much for reply , I will try them , not getting anywhere with sales
Just waiting on my WiFi 7 router to be delivered, just wanted to ask were you already an EE customer and upgraded to 1.6gbps?
Yes, I have been an EE customer on the 1.6 Gbps busiest home bundle since it was released last year.
I have a iPhone 15 Pro Max which is WiFi 6E. My ISP is Zzoomm and I am paying for 2Gig up and down. When I run a speed test with a TP Link deco BE65 I get 1,400Mbps download and 1,500Mbps upload. The iPhone 16 is WiFi 7 but doesn't 320MHz and onlu uses 160 MHz. iPhone 16 Promises Blazing Fast WiFi 7 Speeds. But A Hidden 160 MHz Limitation Is Secretly Keeping Performance Stuck At WiFi 6E Levels. That is why I haven't upgraded yet I see no point whatsoever.
Can honestly.say the wifi 7 is brilliant and the range so much better.Im on a 1gb package and only getting 300mb and witched to this and got 980mb but the range is the game changer for me.
I am get wifi seven router from ee i am a gamer Xbox is there anything i can do to make my gaming experience better, thank you
You can optimise your ping and select game mode from the EE app, but I am not sure it makes a significant difference.
Nowadays every network has weaknesses no network is perfect. Every network has signal problems somewhere, data speed is very poor and it may not be perfect but every network is cheating customers.
I just set up my EE Smart Hub Pro and Extender a few days ago, but am only on the 900 meg service (I migrated from BT and apparently can't yet switch to 1.6Gbps) and because I've migrated, I also can't access most of the hub settings as it needs to use the EE app - which I can't link to my router. I'm told they're going to reset and attempt a new link that will take a few days, so for now I am literally able to do nothing more than position the routers where they need to be and set the SSID to match what I had before (Asus XT8 Wi-Fi 6). First of all, I noticed that it originally set the 5GHz channel to just 80MHz - and later I lost all connectivity which may have been the devices doing a firmware update and rebooting. A day or so later I noticed it was now 160MHz. I hadn't rebooted or accessed the hub so not sure why it took that long.. I am not that near an airport but maybe there was some radar detection or something. At 160MHz I can connect at 2400Mbps on my devices that support such speed, and I easily get the full 900-945/110. I can't tell if that would reach 1.6 but if near the router, I would certainly hope to get more than you did. I also get the same speed from the extender, which seems to benefit from the Wi-Fi 7 backhaul. LIke you, I don't have many Wi-Fi 7 devices yet. My Honor Magic V3 only supports 2.4 and 5GHz, not 6GHz, so almost all my other recent phones, laptops and tablets etc are Wi-Fi 6. But Wi-Fi 6 is fine for most people. I am hoping the improved backhaul will improve the service from the extender, as I often found the Asus dropped speeds until you rebooted, with the mesh node even switching to 2.4GHz for no reason - slashing the speed for half the house (including our home office where my wife works most days). I am considering the Asus BT8 or BT10 but Wi-Fi 7 kit can cost £500-1000 or even more, so I thought the EE solution might be a reasonable compromise and so far I think it's working very well indeed. Besides the one reboot on day one, it seems to have been rock solid since.
I'm currently with BT too! However I spoke to EE on the phone about doing a workaround to get the 1.6Gb contract, they said to me when my BT internet contract runs out in dec 2024 you can cancel your BT contract and get them to delete your account. You can then come to EE as a new customer and get the 1.6gbs speed contract. As 900Mb is the highest we could have gotten as existing customers. This way you don't need to migrate at all!
@@afsan2321 I decided to avoid the faffing around and just wait, as EE is working hard on resolving the issue and sorting it so people can have digital voice and TV services on the new service too - and when that is fixed I'll change like changing a mobile plan. 900Mbps is fine for me right now and they've reduced my bill as a consequence of the issues I'm having.
Are the plans truly unlimited or have speed caps after 1 GB every day ?
I used almost 100 GB in my 14 days and had no problems. Some days, I used my phone with a laptop and downloaded several gigabytes of data without issues. However, the phone would sometimes switch from 5G to 4G during data transfer and would need the connection reset before switching back to 5G. Could this be a reception rather than a network policy issue?
I have the 1.6gb package with the wifi 6 router. I phoned up EE to upgrade my router to the wifi 7. EE said they can not upgrade my router as there is no option to on their system. They said the only way someone can get the new wifi 7 router is if they are a new EE customer.
This was the initial policy. However, I believe it has now been changed. You'll need to talk to the team that deals with the 1.6Gbit broadband customers.
I have just got them to send me one. You need call the tech team explain you are unable to get the full 1600 using the plus router. They will then send you the pro kit out
@@studioidris the work around is to cancel your current internet contract just 1 month before it ends, not finish it. Then come to EE as a new customer. This works as well.
Good video. Just moved to this from BT 900mb service. Essentially did it as they offered me £10 a month for unlimited data / calls / texts with phone package so it was a no brainer ( usual price £30 ) Kit looks decent. Was told cameras I have on 2.4Ghz will still work fine so here’s hoping 😄 Don’t have the new hub from Openreach yet but hoping I can plug it in and get it working today!
This is one of the main reasons I am with EE. This is still worded as ‘we will boost your existing EE SIM plans charged at more than £10 a month to unlimited data’ in the FAQ, but this perk may have been changed to £20 a month off a new SIM plan. These plans also appear to be on a 30-day rolling contract, which is flexible.
EE and BT are more or less the same company BT won't customers to upgrade to EE broadband even if your in contract
This may be possible. Have a look at this post on the EE website at community.ee.co.uk/t5/Broadband-Landline/Moving-from-BT-to-EE-Mid-Contract/td-p/1368083
Get mine on the 8th but router comes saturday im buzzing been on mobile data for a month which is too long
iPhone 16 series WiFi 7 frequency is limited to 160mhz…
For Wi-Fi 6 160MHz would mean a sync speed of 2400Mbps so that should still be topping 900 meg on a speed test.
I get 1.4gb download on my Samsung Z Fold 6 with WiFi 6, which is pretty bonkers, I'm definitely getting insane speeds
My fold is the same but my s24uktra faster because it's wifi 7.Brilliant router
When you tested WiFi 7 did you split the frequencies first on the router?
All three frequencies are enabled and split. They are reported as 2.4 GHz : On WPA3-Personal-Transition, 5 GHz: On WPA3-Personal-Transition, 6 GHz : On WPA3-Personal
@@studioidris I renamed the SSID for what was previously my 5GHz SSID and the one for 2.4GHz was set for the legacy option that means my outdoor cameras (Blink), smart plugs and an old Freesat decoder can still connect where they might otherwise fail with Wi-Fi 6/7. As with my earlier comment, it took nearly a day for the hub to switch to 160MHz on 5GHz so you might want to do your checks again using something like nPerf to see what sync rate you have. You'd need 160MHz and not 80MHz. Of course, as you move around your home you might find it hard to maintain the full sync rate which often needs line of sight.
I also have the new EE Smart Hub Pro and Smart WiFi Pro, On my samsung galaxy fold 5 i get about 1.3g down, and on my tab S10 Ultra which supports wifi 7 over 6e i get about 1.5g down
Thanks for your sharing
from what I have seen online the iPhones with wifi7 seem to be getting significantly lower speeds than other devices such as s24 ultra I saw a speed test where the iPhone was getting 1500 download and the s24u was getting 3000 download bare in mind this is us versions of these devices but it seems to be an apple issue.
Its because Apple have not enabled 320hz bandwidth and only runs at 160Mhz
Thanks for the review - I have a couple ASUS tri-band wifi 6 mesh routers i use for extenders in my house (as i have a lot of thick stone walls, and the open reach connection comes in literally in the most isolated place they could find! Do you think the ASUS mesh network would work with this? So essentially have a 4 node mesh network?
The Smart Wi-Fi pro has the same SSID as the Smart Hub Pro. What you could try is run an ethernet cable from the 2.5Gbit port on the Smart Wi-Fi pro (or the Smart Hub Pro) to the WAN port on your Asus router. You will have two networks in the house and two wireless networks, but you should be able to use your Asus mesh this way.
Ur upload is sh.t I am getting 900 down and 800 up
Based on my limited research, it seems that the iPhone 16’s WiFi 7 support offers MLO and 160 MHz, but it lacks 320 MHz support like the Galaxy S24.
Thank you for your feedback. It appears from your comment not all Wi-Fi 7 devices have the same specifications.
I also have the new EE Smart Hub Pro and Smart WiFi Pro, and I’ve noticed that my M4 iPad Pro, which supports WiFi 6E, is getting better speeds than my iPhone 16 Pro.
Thanks for taking the time to do this. As ever it seems wired is the way to go for best speed. Im finding on my 1GB/1GB VM fibre and Unify wifi 4 and 5 access points (hard wired via ethernet) my wifi speed is approx 0.25 - 0.5x the wired speed but this is more than enough for a phone or tablet and within the specs for wifi 4 and 5. I would have thought wifi 7 would do better than it did in your test but like you say we dont know if thats an issue with the iPhone or the unit. Perhaps the real value in wifi 7 is when it comes to multiple devices sending and recieving. Please update on any firmware updates (ee and Apple) when you can. All the best
Thank you for your feedback. I agree that very few tasks I performed on my iPhone required faster bandwidth. However, faster speeds expedite projects on a laptop, especially one used for video editing, where you need to download many templates and sample videos, some of which can be several gigabytes in size.
Thanks everyone for watching the video and your comments below. EE have just released an updated router which has WiFi 7 and 2.5 Gbit ethernet ports. I have reviewed this - please have a look at ua-cam.com/video/BSt0p6T1rlQ/v-deo.html
Comprehensive video. Thanks
Virgin are absolutely atrocious thieving bar stewards. I cannot stand that company Orrible bar stewards. Customer service is on a par with evri
Im more curious how the ping droped by 5 just bypassing the router maybe better
Thanks everyone for your comments. EE now include a new router with this product called Smart Hub Pro, which has been upgraded to use WiFi 7. I have ordered this along with the new mesh kit and will create an updated video once this arrives.
@studioidris are you getting EE WiFi 7 1.6Gbps broadband
I have asked EE for an upgrade to the latest router. Once this arrives, I will create an updated video reviewing the service with the new router.
Worth noting if you get this package now, the included router does have 2.5gbps ethernet ports
Nice video. How close to the routers have to be when connected wirelessly to maintain a reliable mesh connection? Thanks
usb is for network storage devcies
Hi. Thanks for the video. Well explained. I’m trying to improve my internet connectivity and thinking about the WiFi mesh system. If I buy a more expensive WiFi 6e mesh rather than the cheaper WiFi 6, will they depend on my virgin media router? I currently have the power line extenders but I sometimes have issues when my mrs and I are on teams call simultaneously. I have a 2 storey building (3 floors), my virgin internet speed is just 300. Do you think a WiFi 6e mesh will be any better?
If you have a Virgin Media 300 Mbit connection, I don't think you will get much better speeds upgrading from WiFi 6 to 6E. If you have a recent Virgin media router, you may be able to get extra WiFi Pods from Virgin to improve your speeds in different rooms in your home. These may also be free, depending on your package. Have a look at www.virginmedia.com/help/how-to/broadband/order-wifi-pods
Hiya mate I’m based in s wales I’ve just ordered these funny enough. So basically what you said in the video I can replace the hub with the new mesh ones?
That is correct. EE permits you to use your own router, but support is only provided for the supplied equipment. The settings can be found at ee.co.uk/help/broadband/getting-started/using-and-configuring-a-third-party-router
You didn't do any wireless test?
