"Pareidolia" - trailer
This is a taste of the video my son James and I have just made about the use of pareidolia in artmaking.
I often start a painting by just smearing paint and scribbling and gluing on collage papers in a random way. Periodically I step back and look at what I’ve done to see if anything is starting to emerge.
There’s a word that describes the process of seeing something recognizable in a random image: pareidolia.
The full video is on my UA-cam channel as well (link at the end of the video)

This video highlights a technique that Jacqui often uses as part of her painting process: pareidolia. Pareidolia means “seeing something familiar in a random image,” and is a great way to bring out your creativity and personal style while painting. Jacqui had been doing this for years when a friend of hers, Ruth Armitage, shared an article about her own work that focused on the concept of parei...
Paintings in Process: Holding the World #shorts

I created the Paintings in Process video series to show how a painting develops and changes from start to finish. Sometimes shapes emerge and I just have to bring them out, sometimes I take a painting I thought was finished and completely start over. Don’t let these short videos fool you-some of these paintings took years to complete. But it’s just that: a process. Here's a link to a blog post ...

Creating a Better Relationship with your Imperfection

This video addresses our attitude towards, as well as ways to recover from making mistakes. What we view as “failure” and “mistakes” are an inherent part of the creative process, and necessary in order to grow as artists. Letting go of the expectation to be perfect frees us to explore and create more personally and deeply. Resources List: drive.google.com/file/d/1YHJ02jRZQ_zOhbuX8jhlPRKqjeQBkPe...

Art in the Time of COVID

This time of isolation during the coronavirus pandemic is challenging, but also full of opportunity for me. It offers plenty of time when I am alone, when I am sequestered. It is a time to play around, to explore deeper into myself. Feel free to leave a comment about how you’ve adjusted to this time, artistically or otherwise!

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you , beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Fabulous - simply fabulous
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are everything my elementary school art teacher was! She gave us scribbles; quickly done in black magic marker. Our job was to make something out of them. I was off to the races! Watching this makes me want to get back to that in my painting. Thanks for sharing this
Impossible to do without some decisions.
I LOVE your videos Thank you ❤❤❤❤
Very interesting processes. Thanks for sharing!
Emiliano Unions
Love the quotes! Anne Lamott's about giving yourself permission to do a shitty first draft is powerful🎉
Inspiring! I am going to get back to creating more art. Thank you for sharing.
I love how you “see” things popping up in your paintings like a stuck up kangaroo coming in from the side. I also like how you embrace the weird like the two-headed bird.
I love these pieces. Thanks for sharing.
What fun!
I’ve always got Bob Dylan! He’s always been my muse. 🩷🩷🩷
Love your artwork ~🙏🏻🥰
❤❤❤
Very nice. I am trying to open my mind to this paint in this style. Do you offer any tutorial courses?
I do teach, but only in person. I don’t have any tutorial courses. 🌻
@@jacquibeck1878 Thank you, I cannot travel right now, but when I can join one of your in person workshops, where is it and how many times a year do you have it? Thank you
Can I add collage after the painting has dried? I want to add an element. Thanks
Yes. I always wait to add collage papers until the paint is dry.
I always find hidden fairies in my work!
Thank you! Just what I was looking for, the next theme for exploring abstract painting. Bless you for sharing.
Thank you for getting me out of my funk. "What to paint" is always what stops me. I like to have meaning tied into my work. It has to have a message. So I have been painting my memories of childhood. That means something to me. Your video today has really helped me see the serendipity of it all. I have one painting I did which was an assignment in a class I took. "What do I see in my abstract work?" That painting means a great deal to my because I tapped into my own brain and enhanced exactly what I saw. I relied on my imagination and brought my abstract painting into something meaningful to me. It brought reality to the abstract. I am out of my funk now and remembering where I want to go. THANK YOU! BTW, I have followed you for years. Your work always stopped me in my tracks.
Thanks so much for sharing this, Susan. I love hearing that my work stopped you in your tracks!
Amen! Love this.
“As the master Boticelli stated, such a study is useful because just by throwing a sponge soaked with various colors against a wall to make a stain, one can find a beautiful landscape. If it is true that in this stain various inventions can be discerned, or rather what one wants to find in it…” - Leonardo da Vinci
So good to know Leonardo and I agree about this. 🌻🌞
lovely work.
Wonderful ideas …so great to watch …..thanks!
Just what I needed too see & hear ….thank you for a fab video 😊
How do you hang-frame pieces on Bristol board Love your studio. Thank you for the fabulous video 😍
Sometimes I glue them to cradled panel. I also sell them unframed, attached to foam core with stick-on corners in an acetate envelope.
Thankyou so much, I love your style, your colors, your flair....❤Gabby
I wish I could see your paintings better, I like them, I like images more than words. Politicians are all about words and they are mostly LIES.
Just found your channel. I love your artwork. Very inspiring. Thank you 💜
Wonderful video! I really love your descriptions of creating and your suggestions for possibilities of how to tap into the artist voice. Even after a lifetime of being an artist and about 25 years of being an art instructor, it's always refreshing and inspiring to hear, look and learn from another artist. Thank you for being so open and for sharing :) natalie
I totally agree. Thanks for this, Natalie. Jacqui 🌞🌻
I just listened to a Ted talk by Austin Kleon....thanks for making that comment and letting me see something new today.
I have been watching studio tours and they're all so boring and so perfect and they don't even look like any art is being made there. Your tour however is FULL of authenticity and you even tell us what kind of art supplies you're using which is just so wonderful. I loved it! Thanks
I completely agree and came to the comments to say this. Like… I make a mess with art and can’t relate to the perfect, lined up bottles in matching canisters from the local big box shop. To each their own but even as a child I loved the messy, eclectic feel of the art room at school or an artists workspace. The rest of my house is far more orderly but my art studio needs to be a creative space where I’m not scared to mess up something.
Thanks Joanne! 🌞
Where to but untaxed deli paper?
Hi Chris, I wish I had a good answer. It’s getting harder and harder to find unwaxed deli paper. Sometimes kitchen stores carry it, or big box stores. Sometimes you can find it online. Heavy tissue paper is worth a try. Jacqui
@@jacquibeck1878 i can’t believe I found you..I’ so thrilled…total serendipityI!! have been using what we call baking paper in Australia for collage. It’s in every supermarket. I did Nick Wilton’s CVP course and used his palette suggestion. He used tracing paper but that is expensive here but what troubled me was when I saw him bin his used palette paper. Finally on your video I saw you use it as I do. We have waxed paper of course but Im sure tou must have baking paper too…..just joined your newsletter…beyong happy to find you Jacqui..adore your paintings.
What type of glue did you use for the collage
I use matte medium.
Love your studio - And that you dance and eat chocolate 🍫 to get your energy up! So fun! Thanks for sharing! 💕
You’re wonderful
Do you know Rick Benzel?
No, but I will look for him.
I'm just around the corner my artist/painter friend. Your works are awesome/amazing!
Fantastico!!!! ❤❤❤
I've been doing this for years with painting, clouds, etc. I didn't know it had a name. 😊 I absolutely love your art process and art! ❤️
Thank you for that, it's great to get a glimps into the process of your art creation
I love your work, Jacqui. I'm happy to have two of your beautiful pieces hanging on my walls.
Magical!
Thanks!
Thank you for the demonstration! Very helpful.
Thanks, Sue. Glad it was helpful. 🌞
What is the brand of your easel ?
I wish I could tell you, but I sold it recently and got a new one.
Jacqui you are a joy ❤
Your interpretation of human behavior and the things that we have to overcome in order to create is in itself a work of art. Thank you for such an insightful presentation. Rick F.
Thank you, Rick. I love how you said this.
