What I eat in a week 🍜🥦 | Life in Canada 🇨🇦 | Simple & Healthy Japanese cooking
Hello everyone, this is Yasuko.
This is my first video since coming back to Canada from Japan.
When I got back to Canada, the leaves had completely changed color and it was so beautiful.✨
We've had nice weather this week, so we were able to enjoy the autumn leaves. 🍁🍁🍁
I was able to buy eggplant at half price this week, so I made an eggplant and chicken stir fry. The soft eggplant and juicy chicken were very delicious. I also added broccoli to my tofu and chicken menchi katsu, and even my son who hates vegetables ate it all up.
This week's menu again uses plenty of vegetables.
I hope this is helpful. 😊

Hi friends, your sweet potato meat ball recipe looks tasty and delicious. 😊
Thank you for sharing your wonderful vacation with us. Japan seems absolutely beautiful. At times you commented that it was cloudy. I think the clouds made it even more beautiful as they hung on the top of the mountains. I am pleased you got to spend time with your family and your friends. Thank you for sharing!
These are so inspiring. I am struggling with finding balance in cooking. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much 🥰
Thank you Yasuko for the video 👏👏👏
You're welcome! Thanks for watching 🥰
What firmness of tofu do you use for the katsu? Thank you. :)
I'm using firm tofu 😊
@@whatsfordinner_japanese Thank you! I'll be trying that soon! It looks delicious. :)
Welcome back- and what a delicious return! Everything looks so good - I especially want to try the tofu chicken menchi katsu, yum. Your new plates are so pretty!
Thank you very much! 🥰
Glad you are back. Missed your dinners but at the same time I am really happy that you had a good vacation ❤.
Thank you! We had a great time in Japan! Now that I'm back in Canada, I'm enjoying cooking as usual 😊
Hi dear, please answer my doubt regarding sauces you use. I am South Asian and we use soy sauce and other sauce weekly or bi weekly. I see u using same daily. Please guide which brand sauces u use and are those preservative free or safe to use. I really want to incorporate same in my diet but worried about the preservatives n plastic.
Hello, I usually use Kikkoman or currently Yamasa but Kikkoman is usually available all over the world. Looking at the ingredients they don't seem to have any ingredients that look to be preservatives but I'm not 100% that will always be the case. I hope that helps! 😊
@whatsfordinner_japanese thank you so much for replying dear. Some day, if possible, pl give explanation of what condiments or sauces are used for which type of cooking. I am indian and i want to Encorporate same in my diet. Just a request. 😊
I love how your son looks into the camera after a big bite of food-such a sweet face.🥰 I'm trying your patty recipe inside a wonton wrapper like a dumpling...should be good!😊❤
I didn't notice his funny face while I was eating it, but when I was editing the video, I noticed it and laughed 😆 Wrapping the patty in wonton wrapper is a great idea!
@whatsfordinner_japanese 😊
Glad you enjoyed your vacation and visit with your parents. We here missed your dinners, though! Always getting some new ideas and variations on dishes 😋
Thank you for your sweet comment 🥰 I had a great time in Japan! Now I'm back in Canada and enjoying cooking again!
Hi Yasuko, how are you this week? Wow, everything looked so delicious, I can't wait to try the sweet potato meatballs! If I find daikon, I also want to try the daikon stew and butter soy sauce onions--yum! I hope the jet lag did not affect you and your family too much. Seems like the weather was good, the leaves this year were definitely very beautiful! I also enjoyed seeing your new plates, they are adorable! I think beautiful tableware helps enjoy meal times better 😊Thank you for another great video, have a great week!
Thank you for your comment. I'm doing well 😊 The jet lag got better in about a week. The first week was hard because I was sleepy during the day😂 I hardly cooked much when I was in Japan, so I'm enjoying cooking again now that I'm back in Canada! The sweet potato meatballs were delicious. Sweet potatoes were cheap so I bought a lot. I'm going to try a variety of sweet potato recipes. Thank you for watching the video. Have a great week! 🍁
I'm slowly catching up; I watch each part of a video every time I settle down to eat at home. So you are a part of my meals, I guess ;) Anyway, you give great ideas for recipes, I can't wait to see the rest of the videos. I also love how your family thanks you and is so appreciative of your hard work in the kitchen! Also very glad you gain more views every time you post, it's entirely deserved.
Thanks for watching and your kind comment! I'm happy to be apart of your meals 🥰
Really lovely vlog
Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your family trip with us ❤️ Great content, makes me miss Japan ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! 😆
Hi Yasuko, it's wonderful that you and the family could go visit your family and friends in Japan - I hope you are able to go at least every few years. Does your husband speak Japanese? Your son is lucky that he will grow up bilingual!
Hello 👋 yeah we hope to go every year or so, if we get the chance. My husband speaks a little, he continues to learn with our son 😆
Gracias Yasuko hermoso video😊.
¡Me interesa verlo!
Looks like a great vacation! Time well spent. Off topic: we've been watching Skate Canada which happens to be in Halifax this year. Japanese boys and girls are so good, they took all the top places! You can be proud! ⛸️
Thanks, it was! 🥰 Oh I didn't know it was taking place in Halifax, that's exciting! Haha that's good, happy to see when Japanese athletes do well 😊
Hi Yasuko! How are you this week? Thank you for sharing your travels, Japan is so lovely and such great scenery to see and seems like you and your family had a great time and ate good food 😊The chestnut sweets looked amazing, and so did the wasabi soft serve--I am curious if it was spicy! Discovering specialty foods is such a treat ☺ It's good to see you had the time to visit different places and to reunite with family and friends. It is so healing, but I can understand that it must have felt bittersweet to say goodbye. I hope you and your family can go back to Japan soon! Have a great week, take care and thank you for sharing these memories with us 💗
Hello, I'm good thank you, I hope you're well too! Yes definitely ate great food and a lot of it! 😆 The wasabi soft serve wasn't really spicy at all but had good flavour. Yeah it was nice to see everybody and very hard to say goodbye but hopefully back again next year. Thank you for watching and enjoying my daily life in Japan. I hope you also have a great week! 😊
You really packed a lot in! Looks like a great trip.
Thank you very much 🥰
Very nice! Glad you enjoyed your visit! Thank you for sharing your vacation with us!!
Thanks for watching! 😆
You guys got around well, glad that you got to visit family and enjoy some time on vacation!
Thank you 🥰
I loved this!
Thanks!!
I love your channel. It’s a therapy watching your videos. I hope it grows and you get a lot of subscribers. Couple questions I always wondered- 1) Is your husband Japanese too? 2) Do you cook 3 times a day? It seems like a lot of work so I was wondering if you make breakfast, lunch and dinner at home every day.
Thanks so much! No my husband is Canadian but he's good with chopsticks lol. I cook twice a day, lunch and dinner. Lunch is usually a simple rice dish or bagels that I bake. I do also bake some banana oatmeal to have for breakfast but that's only a couple times a week. So it's mostly dinner that I spend a lot of time on.
Looks so fun! And a mid-week upload!!
Ah yes because we went to Japan schedule changed but back to regular schedule soon!
Wow! this is an amazing video. Enjoyed every bit. Be safe and waiting for your next one😊
Thank you so much 🥰
Fascinating, thanks for sharing! Beautiful scenery, fantastic food! Looking forward to part 2.
Glad you enjoyed it 🥰
Hi Yasuko, this video was delightful! My husband and I just returned from a 3 week trip to Japan and S. Korea - we spent 4 days in Tokyo, then went on a cruise from Yokohama to Seoul, and finished up with 5 days in Seoul. We want to go back to Japan again - we have 5 more years left on our Pasmo cards!😊(We visited Japan in 2019.) It was very hot and humid - it looks like Niigata was perfect though. We spent a day in Kyoto with Hiromi, who lived with us here in Canada as a high school student over 20 years ago - we were her host family. She has a family of her own now and it was so nice to see a couple of the kids again. We also went to the supermarket and picked up some Japanese items - mainly dashi packs and kombu; I'd like to start making miso soup more often. We really love watching your videos and are happy for you that you got to spend time at home with your family!
Hello 👋, sounds like you had a fun trip travelling around all over! The great thing about Niigata is that it is less hot and humid than Tokyo and other southern cities and it also has some really nice shrines and other attractions that are not busy at all compared to places like Kyoto. I recommend it next time you get a chance to go to Japan! 😊 That's so nice that you got to spend a day with her even though you were her host family 20 years ago, she must have been pleased! Glad you got chance to get things from Japanese supermarket, I love the quality there and picked up so much! Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching! 🥰
@@whatsfordinner_japanese Yes, we have to branch out of Tokyo and Kyoto! We'll definitely keep Niigata in mind for next time!
Thank you very much Yasuko for the video👏👏👏Everything looks delicious as always 😊
I'm glad you like it, you're very welcome! 🥰
Yasuko, thank you so much for sharing your trip!! It brings back lovely memories from my own travels to Japan ❤ Seeing your son enjoy the big playground and the delicious meals was so lovely, I'm glad you were able to go visit your family and your hometown! The ginger ramen looked so delicious and I enjoyed seeing the different museums you visited. It is so great that your grandmother is still in good health, she must have been so happy to see you and your son ☺ I hope you can rest after your travels!
Glad you enjoyed watching our trip to Japan, it was a lot of fun and I already miss it 🥺. Yes the ginger ramen was so good! My husband jokes that it's a healthier version of ramen because a lot of places have fatty broth. Thank you for your comment, I hope you are doing well and the weather is still good. Although not as warm we came back to sunshine and the colour of the leaves changes so it wasn't too bad. 😊
@@whatsfordinner_japanese Thank you 🥰 the leaves are very beautiful here this year so my fiancé and I have been going on long walks to enjoy before it gets too cold. I hope you and your family can enjoy it too! 🍁
Your country is beautiful, you must miss it very much. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you 😊, yes I do miss it when I'm away 🥺
Looking forward to seeing more of your vacation. Aside from sightseeing, good ramen, Japan also is safer for eating sushi. It's great that you'll be able to cook with products you are getting there!😋

Thanks! It was a lot of fun, both seeing family and friends. I hope you can get there one day too! I originally came to Canada on a working holiday many years ago now 😃

I hope you can one day too! It's a lot of fun! 🤩
Have a great holiday. I live in Dartmouth and would love to have a cooking lesson if you ever expand your business from UA-cam. :)
Thanks! It was a lot of fun. Nice to meet people that live close by! Hmm I haven't thought about giving cooking lessons before 🤔, if I ever do I'll let you know!
@@whatsfordinner_japaneseI’d ❤ to learn some simple, new recipes and especially to make vegetables as delicious as you make them look. :)
We thought you might be on a trip to Japan and visiting your parents 😊 Hope you make a vlog of your vacation! The vlog of your last trip was very interesting.
If I'm away that's usually what I'm doing 😂. Thanks, my next video will have some of Japan!
I make at least 2 of your recipes every week .I really love your food and appreciate that you took the time to put the recipes in the side bar.Thank you so much.
I'm really happy to hear that! Thanks so much for watching and making the recipes at home! 🥰
I don’t like the way spinach wilts. I eat it raw mostly
I like it eating raw too but sometimes for Joe I blanch spinach so easier for him.
Did everyone go to Japan?
Yeah, the 3 of us went to Japan
Enjoy your visit with your family. Good to go before winter sets in. From what I have seen, spring is the nicest time to go. I just love watching your son reaching out for his food as soon as he gets to the table
Thank you! Yes we wanted to go before the winter, and we were lucky it was like summer and only rained twice while we were there. Thanks for watching and your comment! 🥰
Hello!I am so happy tot see You!Have a wonderful vacation!❤❤❤
👋 Hello, sorry I was a way for so long, back to regular schedule now! 😆
Oct. 16 8:16 am Washington State - How wonderful you went to Japan! Welcome back ❤. I just love, love, love watching your channel and learning how to cook your delicious meals! I have started making lots of miso soup and many of your other dishes ~ Thank you 😊…for all your delicious recipes!!! Our grandson is the same age as your son so I also love seeing him in your videos with your husband. You are such a lovely family❤!
Thank you for your comment! I very happy you love watching my channel and making the recipes 🥰.
I was so happy to see your video in my notifications, Yasuko! I hope you are enjoying your trip to Japan and I am happy to see you are taking a break, it’s important! 😊 Thank you for this delicious menu, it is so chilly here so I am definitely making soup more often. Your son is so lively as always, it was so cute how he has his preference to add the mayo and make his own bagels 😂 I will definitely try your spinach menu, I think the meatballs will be delicious with tofu too. Enjoy Japan and thank you for the video! I hope you eat delicious food there 😊
😊 Yes we had a good time in Japan! Sorry it took so long for a new video, very difficult to edit while being away 😆. It was like summer in Japan, nice and hot but not too hot, we arrived in Calgary for a layover and it's very cold 🥶 Thanks, I hope you enjoy this weeks recipes and I will be back to regular weekly videos now!
