The Fujifilm X-H1 As A Cinema Camera - Sequence
Before, and behind. Most of the time, your shots don't stand alone, though ideally they should be able to. Not to worry, they're more than what they may seem to be on their own. To be fair, that's for better and worse - so maybe worry a little. This may not be the lesson you're looking for - but maybe it's one you need. Thanks so much either way. Love you. God bless!
Thanks so much to Majunior for being a part of this video. He's also more than he seems to be. Check him out on Spotify. open.spotify.com/track/4FkpKZLfq0PjvZfdiehds4 And look for him in more videos, on this channel and elsewhere.
This was all shot on a Fujifilm X-H1, with a ZY Optics Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm 0.95, and Tiffen screw-in ND, and polarizing filters. Most footage is straight out of camera - some has little bit of grading - mostly a little extra saturation, or some play in the shadows and mids.
The music is original, and composed with Westwood Instruments libraries.

Filmmaking with Fujifilm and A.I.

Sometimes you have more resources than you realize. Perhaps when things in the filmmaking world are changing faster than ever before, you have opportunities to grow as a filmmaker faster than ever before. I have more questions than answers for sure, and maybe filmmaking as we think of it right now won't even be here in a year or two. (Probably will, but maybe not in the same use-cases, or scena...
Filmmaking With Fujifilm's Most Overlooked Camera - Another Life

"It didn't make sense not to tell her." "Then why didn't you?" "I don't know." He swiped through another memory. "I guess some things just don't make sense." Fujifilm remains underrated for video. I think I get why, but I also don't understand. (Paradoxical?) Regardless! For the time being, I shall continue to use what may be Fujifilm's most underrated camera - the XH1. This one has been on hol...

Advanced Filmmaking Tutorial: Make Your Videos Look Like Movies

If you're a filmmaker who spends any amount of time watching tutorials on UA-cam, you probably just want to make your videos look like movies. So - let's make your videos look like movies. This may not be the tutorial you've been looking for - but maybe it is. I was hanging out with a close friend of mine, who happens to be an amazing photographer, and filmmaker (Amongst other things. I may have referenced him in my video Lumina Obscura - check it out!), and I geeked out over this super cool little piece of gear he had out. "Whoa! What's that?" "That? "I feel like I can still hear your voice, even if it's just the silence." This is a short film written, produced, and directed by Olivia Hoiden, and Nigel Ian Zamora. I remember the day I found out you were a photographer when we bumped into each other at Oni-Con, fast forward a year or two later to me asking if you ever taught photography - aaaaand... boom! Praise God! Thank you so much! It has been a lot of work learning how to get the shots right in-camera. Maybe especially the white balance. I learned from some really great photographers, and filmmakers though - in person, my great friend Chris Zamora (no relation that we know of, except brothers in Christ), who pointed me towards the X-H1 as my first camera, and to this day I'm still grateful. Also here on UA-cam @markuspix is very inspirational, and has been an encouragement to me (indirectly - via his videos) to get the look right with lighting, etc. I really appreciate you taking the time to check this out! Great to hear your zeal for the LORD@@nigelianzamora , and to meet another brother in Christ. Camera wise, I've just sold off a bunch of Blackmagic cameras myself and have put the funds toward a Canon C70 that I had arrive yesterday. @@nigelianzamora I've had the privilege of shooting a number of music videos for a few different Christian artists to help promote their music. I'll often look for music artists with good theology and will reach out to them to see if they'd like to collaborate. As for the camera, I had a chance to test out the C70 a little bit beside my S1H this morning. Gotta say, I don't think it's worth a $3000 price difference. The colours and shadow noise is definitely better on the C70, and it's a much nicer camera to use versatility wise, but $3000 difference... I've got to have a good think on that.

      Yes. Depending on what you intend to be filming, the X-H1 is still top-notch, at a good price. It's also great for photography. The biggest drawbacks are the short battery life, and no flip out screen incase you need to film yourself for UA-cam style videos. Granted - some new affordable options may be emerging, but most of what I've looked at with similarly cool output, comes in at a higher price. Check out some of my more recent videos, and you can see it in action. I haven't upgraded yet. I do want to get an external recorder in order to record 4:2:2 - internal recording is 4:2:0. Bro! This is a huge compliment. Praise God! Thank you very much for the kind words. The next thing I want to do to get better footage from the X-H1, is get an external recorder so I can record 8-bit 4:2:2. I only recently learned that internal SD recording is 4:2:0 - so this is not insignificant. How are the pixels holding up on your camera? I've always had dead ones in mine, and I'm getting so used to where they are, I always see them now. The patch in Davinci is pretty good, but some footage with certain patterns is not conducive to a pixel fix.

    Very nice video, im still thinking wether this camera is good for content creator, can you give some suggestion ?

    • @nigelianzamora
      @nigelianzamora 3 місяці тому

      If you're a solo content creator, the biggest drawback is that there's no flip screen, and the auto focus is only OK. The battery life isn't good either. The biggest strength is that it can look really good straight out of camera, and is relatively inexpensive. I just discovered that you can also record in 4:2:2 (8-bit) with an external recorder - which means that the footage can look better than what I've shared on my channel. Internally it can only record 4:2:0. To be honest - most modern cameras are really good, and you can probably shoot amazing footage on any of them. What sort of videos are you planning to make?

    • @mohdkhirullah4103

      4:2:2 8 bit recording i think is sufficient enough for content creator,im into taking photos for product, Short cinematic video for product, Does it have f-log profile in the camera ??

    • @nigelianzamora
      @nigelianzamora 3 місяці тому

      @@mohdkhirullah4103 I agree. I've been (unintentionally) shooting in 4:2:0 and it looks good, so 4:2:2 would be just fine. Yes, you can shoot in F-log. I've used it, and it's good. I really like the X-H1, with the things I mentioned being the main drawbacks. The IBIS is also a little sketchy - with this sort of "catch up" motion that I really don't like. When paired with an OIS lens though, it's pretty good. For photos, it's really good too. I think this camera was slept on, and get's overlooked, but it's a good value at it's current price points.

When it comes to video tho, I typically shoot on a C200 or a RED Scarlet W depending on what I am filming (I am a film student, so mostly crappy student films haha). Mainly I have only used the X-H1 for a few travel vlogs for family instead of short films, however I'm so excited to film a serious project with it. • @nigelianzamora
      @nigelianzamora 3 місяці тому

      So - I record video in 4k, usually 24fps, with Classic Chrome film sim most of the time. I've shot in F-log, and it looks great, but for now I just stay with the built in colors. The only additional effect in this video is during the flashback footage, where I added a damaged film effect, and some extra vignette on the water. The glow that happens is light spilling across the lens and filters (polarizing filter, and sometimes an ND) because I don't have a matte box, or lens hood big enough. When the light source gets close to entering the frame, that look usually just happens. I found that out by accident, and liked it a lot.

      @@nigelianzamora amen! thank you, it's such an honour to inspire an artist like you. The 18-55mm is a stabilized lens that works great for photo and video, I like it's construction, even if it's a kit lens it's very solid and not the plastic lens that you can get with a Canon or Nikon kit. it's also very affordable, I bought it second hand by 200€ or so. When doing video most of the time I use only the 18-55 lens (besides that I have the XF 55-200 and a 7 Artisans 12mm f/2.8), and it works just fine. I would like to get a 35mm lens, I've seen that 7artisans has its version of the f/.0.95 that I think it's the economic alternative of your Mitakon (btw, is it also manual focus? is it sharp enough at open diaphragm?)

    • @nigelianzamora
      @nigelianzamora 3 місяці тому

      @@joshuaorrillo1728 The OIS in the lenses makes a huge difference - even using longer focal lengths, like with the 50-140, I've gotten stable looking footage. The Mitakon is my main lens for video, and it's really soft wide open. The edges of the image can also lose contrast depending on the light - but the look is really great, just maybe not for everything. It reminds me a lot of the look Zack Snyder gets when he uses the rehoused 50mm Canon "dream lenses." I try to shoot most footage around 2.8 or higher now - but I do love the look wide open, or just barely stopped down to eliminate that wide open look I mentioned. The Mitakon is manual focus. I think I've seen a video by GX Ace, where he talks about the 7 Artisans lens you mentioned, and it looks great! For photos, I've been wanting to pick up the XF 35 1.4 - it looks really cool.

    haha epic tutorial, how do you film so steady? do you use a gimbal or it is only the ibis system?

    • @nigelianzamora
      @nigelianzamora 3 місяці тому

      Hey! Glory to God! Thanks so much! So, if I recall correctly - the opening shots are handheld. I did try out a gimbal, and also a tripod with this actress, but I think I could only manage the framing I wanted when I was going handheld. I could be wrong about this! But I only used the gimbal for a moment, because I didn't like it, and I also didn't want this shot locked off on a tripod. The other shots ARE done using a photo tripod - I unlock the neck, and then use my hands to slowly lower the height, staying as steady as I can, to get those smooth, descending, gravity shots. The X-H1 ibis is pretty good, but it does have this jerky "catch up" motion that I actually hate. Even handheld, I kind of know how to avoid it at this point, but prefer not to chance it. God bless!

    • @joshuaorrillo1728
      @joshuaorrillo1728 3 місяці тому

      @@nigelianzamora oh thanks, the gravity motion looks very clean (I will try that shot with the unlocked neck tripod). The IBIS on the X-H1 does its work but sometimes it gets a little tricky, it's true; unfortunately Fujifilm has not released any new firmware for the X-H1 since 2022, it's like the camera with the biggest potential is forgotten. Blessings!

      @@joshuaorrillo1728 Yeah - I've heard that it was the announcement of the X-T3 that stunted the sales of the X-H1, which led to it being overlooked. I had hoped they would have at least added color chrome fx, and chrome fx blue at some point.

    This is really great work! And the idea of shooting and not grading as much is so appealing! Did you try the different stocks and decide Classic Chrome was the best? Which do you think is the best to shoot with?

    • @nigelianzamora
      @nigelianzamora 4 місяці тому

      Praise God! Thank you so much! I've tried other film sims on the X-H1, mostly Eterna, which also looks great, and can be graded pretty well. In fact, at first I would ONLY use Eterna, and then accidentally set my camera to Classic Chrome, and something about it just stood out. I usually really like the colors, and the contrast is very nice. There are times when the colors render like those from my memory of movies as a kid. The drawback? There's not that much flexibility in post, and if you have lots of footage from different locations, or time of day etc., that you're editing together, it can be challenging to match them. That's hurt me a couple of times - but when I get my settings right in-camera, I usually end up with colors I think are better than I would get shooting F-log, and grading it. Check out my Patreon - it's free, and I'm trying to post more there, with little filmmaking tips, and bts. Thanks again so much! I hope this helped! God bless!
