I would 100% by a math textbook that taurght be how to do this!
New Sternguard pls!!
In the works!
Mortarion ignores being bracketed
Which is crazy!
Canis rex would be a funny curve
I should totally do a knight!
I'm confused by damage rolling. Should the damage of demolisher attacks be rolled once per turn for all shots or once per wound?
Comment for the Comment Gods!
If you do one of these for sternguard, I will subscribe and tell all my friends
Already in the works!!!
Loving your content so far. The chemistry you have with each other is amazing and I never knew bar charts and bell curves could be so much fun! I have a question regarding the relationship between lethal hits and devastating wounds. Is there a point where the lethal hits are actually negatively hurting your damage output? Losing 1/6 of potential devastating wounds sounds bad 😢 however those lethal hits are automatically successful wounds which sounds great 🎉. Do they cancel each other out or are those lethal hits actually negatively impacting your damage output due the power of dev wounds?
There is def some anti synergy. In extreme. Conditions where you are wounding easily but there is still a high armore save lethals could actually make you do less damage. I haven’t seen this happen before though. I’ll have to give it some thought because this is a great question and I would love to give an example. Ima do a full episode on just the maths at some point. Want to build some regularity first though. Thank you for mind bender!!!
Comment for the comment gods. Loving warp hammer math
There are chances and then there is reality😅
Try a guided unit of broadsides through it. Guided with stealth suits. I wanna see what happens cause i think it works?
Heavy rails, Seeker missiles, Twin plasma rifles, and because i hate myself 6 missile drones (that i know wont do anything). Naturally with their heavy bonus for them sweet sweet 2+ to hit, dev wounds on them sweet sweet rail rifles. Aaaaaand its virtually impossible to do but what happens if they have all that and they are within 6 inches for maximum Ret Cadre bonus of +1 strength and +1 armor pen. Even more ridiculous but might as well throw in the 3 man unit of stealth suits with a fusion blaster so we can laugh as they do like...1 damage.
Hmmm. I wanna know if that works too.
Love this format guys! The spread helps to show the unit’s consistency and the breakdown of the buffs helps us determine what buffs or characters to add. Please do a best SM weapons video to take out the strongest units ie deathwing knights, death guard termies, c’tan! Love your channel 🎉
Will do my best.
Yes please, more of this format! I love doing numbers instead of just hoping that I am sending the right unit into the right thing.
Dramatic distribution? 😂
Ya know, some curves were just MADE for soap operas.
Math teacher in which kind of school?
Highschool math, physics, and engineering. Physics is my first love though!
Also, in this video did you account for extra damage done by the ones that die to hazardous getting to shoot again on a 3+? Probably not a lot of extra damage, but…every bit counts
I did, I should have mentioned this explicitly…. I was pretty proud of that.
I'm also a Blood Angels player, coming back after being away for four editions. I play with people who are also math nerds - one of them plays Death Guard, and the other plays either Chaos Demons or Tyranids, so I enjoy hearing about simulations against these armies.
I'm also a teacher. Auto subscribe. 👍
Red for the ed throne!
This might be a weird one, sort of the opposite of your normal videos, but I’d love to see you do a video on “What can kill Black Templar Terminators?” They’re nuts. 4 wounds each with a 5+ feel no pain and mortal wound protection. I don’t think anything in the game can one round a 10 man squad of them even 10% of the time but I’d love to see you tell me if I’m right!
You mean deathwing knights? Fnp? You’ve peaked my interest.
Deathwing Knights are nuts too, but I have a local Black Templars player who’s known for this Assault Terminator brick. In the Righteous Crusaders detachment you can pick the Uphold The Honor of The Emperor vow for a 6+ FNP, then attach a Chaplain in Terminator armor with the Tannhauser’s Bones enhancement to make it a 5+ FNP for the attached Terminators (and halve the damage to the Chaplain as a bonus). The Chaplain also gives the squad a 4+ FNP against Mortal Wounds. The Assault Terminators naturally have a 2+ 4++ save profile, and taking the Storm Shield gives them each an extra wound, bringing them up to 4 each. So..in total, 46 wounds of 2+ 4++ 5+++ bodies with a 4+++ against mortals.
My feeling is that they’re even tougher than Deathwing Knights, but that’s a gut feeling
I play Sisters, so the most dangerous thing I have access to is Morven Vahl and her Paragon Warsuits…I think I killed about 3 or four of them between shooting and charging:P
The more that survive hazardous are that many more to supercharge next turn all over again.
BA player too - went through the same thought process as you and actually made the call to pick up a box earlier this week 🙌
I absolutely loved this! You have a new sub. Can’t wait for more content, are you going to look at other factions too?
Yes, absolutely…. Still a work in progress but I’m excited to analyze other factions.
Great info. Thanks for the video. Word word word.
Is a twirly moustache mandatory here?
Love the vs. model! Keep it up guys.
Are ypu eons of battle from the future? You look just alike😂
Id like to see how inceptors compare to these guys, +20 pts for some serious gun upgrades im pretty sure they have like a 70% chance aggregate to destroy any 12 wound vehicle, which is probably super value. Also how their bolter profile compares, as if the bolter can get vehicle slaying profiles, then bolters will be better
Adding this to my short list.
very cool video, what did you use for the programming?
All programmed in python. I’m not an expert… but it’s been a lot of fun.
Last Request: can you create a "shorthand" video where you explain what each Bonus does translated into math? E.g: +1 to hit = x% bonus, rerolls = y% bonus. Maybe a quick review on Rolled Throughput Yeild and how its calced.
Yes, I’ve started working on This and can’t wait to put it out into the world.
Having just completed my LSS Green Belt training, and using Warhammer to "practice" my math skills for said training, this platform really makes me happy; I knew I was doing something right. Requests: Ideally, Devastating Wounds pushes through 16.67% of your damage past the targets Armor/invulnerable saves. When is it better to hit large targets with Massed Dev wound, 1 damage weapons vs hitting them with anti-tank weapons. E.g.: Lascannons against Avatar of Khaine Vs Sternguard against Avatar of Khaine. Bonus (plus my favorite way to take out the Avatar): Salamanders Flamestorm Aggressors w/Immolation Protocols vs Avatar.
Good suggestion.
Wow. Easy to understand. Thanks!
This makes my inner math nerd happy lol.
Love the format and delivery!
Using them in gladius and adding +1 ap and ignore cover they can kill most things
Just now discovering your channel, I like it! And I have bad memories of two shooting rounds with my Azrael Hellblasters against Mortarion...he survived the game with 3 recovered wounds 😢 It was my 2nd game in 40k though...
I feel your pain.
For the Comment Gods
For reroll hits + lethals I assume you are rerolling misses, not fishing for critical hits for a big lethal boost? I don’t know if you’ve ever done the calculations on rerolling misses vs fishing for lethals or sustained but I would love to know the stats!
I covered it a little in the vindicator vid…. But I want to do a deep dive once I have a few more subs. It’s in the works.
Dark angels players have known for years.
First time watching your videos. I legit thought you were having conversations with yourself. Even after looking at the pip’s of your faces, I was convinced one had fake beard, and the other was you. In all seriousness, great content. Love this. Thanks for the video
People mix us up all the time. :)

I've got a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, an M.S. in Applied Economics and I work as a Data Scientist and I am a Dark Angels player. I just found your channel and I have finally found the promised land. Thanks for the great video and I will be a subscriber for life now!
I work in Lean Six Sigma, and Data Analysis in Warhammer Tickles my brain just right.
That puts a big ol smile on my face. Thank you!
Been running Hellblasters with Azrael and Or a lieutenant, this is my absolute MVP unit in basically all my games. Their kill total is just ridiculous.
I’m so excited to get some. I’ve just used proxy models in one game thus far.
Just stumbled upon this channel and it was an instant sub. I love your guys’ energy and what you do here. I wonder if it would be worth explaining your graph a bit since it took me two or three videos to understand what the wall of numbers actually meant. Also I’d like to request some Drukhari numbers. Lelith with 5 vs 10 Wyches and 5/10 Incubi with an Archon or Drazhar.
I’m so used to having a classroom where I have a consistent audience. Still getting used to the differences. I need to keep in mind that people have not necessarily seen all my vids. Thank you for the input.
Maybe include the graphs with all the buffs in the description for the nerds who are interested (me, I am the nerd who is interested)?
So, I have a math hammer question that might actually make an interesting video. My buddy has s list he calls Oops all C'tan. Nightbringer, Void dragon, Deciever, and 3 transcendent C'tan. I am a CSM and Custodes player... but we are mathing it out... and I cant find an army that CAN kill it all off. mathematically is there even a counter to that?
great info. Keystrokes
Hellblasters are not a great unit in Competitive Warhammer and considered to be a "noob trap" similar to the Redemptor Dreadnought once you reach a certain level of play, because they have a lot of problems. First, Hellblasters aren't good at killing the extreme ends of targets in the game. As your (full disclosure) very well researched math shows, they always do something (which is good) but they can't kill a really tough vehicle/monster like a Daemon Primarch or 20 Ork Boyz under a 5+ invulnerable and 5+ fnp. They aren't earning their points back and usually, you want to invest your leader and enhancement buffs into a unit that can activate more than once. Their ideal target - Expensive units of 10 2W models without invulnerable saves - sadly just don't exist in the metagame. Second, Hellblasters are expensive. While buff stacking allows you to generally pick up a moderately sized tank, you are not making your points back before losing models. And unfortunately, Hellblasters die like flies with their generic Space Marine save profile. What made Aggressors, Inceptors and Eradicators so good in the past was the fact that a T6 3W model will actually survive a significant crack-back from your opponent and require more investment from their side to hit back. The shoot-on-removal ability doesn't always help here either, because you can work around line-of-sight, abuse ranges or use non-attack damage like grenades or tanks shocks to significantly hurt them. Third and last is how bad Hellblasters are into -1 Damage and half damage abilities. Like *really bad*. Deathwing Knights, Magnus the Red, any C'tan - these defensive profiles make you really sad being a Hellblaster player. None of these points that Hellblasters can *never* be good. We see them in a top 4 list once in a blue moon and they will always be a great option, should a list like the "Black Tide" aka 120 Black Templar Crusaders ever come back - because that is their ideal target. But right now, they are Jack of All Trades, but master of none. Keep making videos, I still really enjoy some math and I found it impressive you managed to calculate the 3+ shoot-on-removal attacks into the formula.
One of the benefits of custom software is I can tweak it when I learn about new abilities. I’m so glad you like it.
I’d love to know what the most consistent marine anti tank is. My gut says Lancer, but there’s also a chance the new freakydeak sternguard is up there against an oath target.
Hey WarpHammer love the Video I'd be curious about a particular combo for you using The sternguard veterans and the two weapon options they have. in multiple games I have run I was able to melt Terminators with the bolt rifle and heavy bolter since they have dev wounds. it would be a fascinating break down the different graphs between the regular sternguard bolt rifle and the combi weapon. me I personally use the Imperial fist detachment. personal favorite stratagem is the sustained hits stratagem which give crit hits on 5+ when stationary and +1 to wound ( when not including the new Oath of moment +1 to wound ability) with sternguard now able to reroll wounds against OoM targets, perhaps an interesting graph where you break down the benefits of having that additional +1 to wound from the imperial fist detachment since I know there are a few ways people can give themself a way to do -1 to wound. P.S.- if you do this combo and it turns out to be surprisingly good I would be curious to see what would happen against the infamous -1 damage deathwing knights vs the normal assault termies, since the bolt weapons are relatively low damage is it just straight better to shoot lower damage shots more often since they don't get modified as much/ not as swingy. and just because it would be funny throw in the calculation with Pedro Kantor (and maybe a lieutenant) for Pedro's ability to pop the 'Oath of Rynn' granting +1 attacks to all weapons equipped by models in the unit. I am fairly certain this combo may be able to melt Terminators potentially. Also seeing the calculations with and without a lieutenant would be interesting since if you get a lethal hit you cannot get that roll to be a devastating wound.
That is a great idea. Currently working on this analysis. Results to follow. Will keep this in mind.
@warphammer-math thanks, another idea i had too was devastator marines with multi-meltas hoping out of a razerback (about 215pts) vs 6 eradicators and wonder if that is flat better since it is a lesser taken unit with a transport and aditional firepower
My buddy runs deathwing knights and Azreal with a Lt. on 10 hellblasters. I do not like playing this friend.
lol.
