This is a great series and it's great to see how it is engineered to be repairable without a laptop , Cheers Steve.
Looking (and sounding) good Steve (we've got to get our Fiat/Laverda 3790 out Monday ready for harvesting) all looked very familiar what you were doing, if not quite as big (grain pans a two man lift as ours are normally 5/6 walker machines), I always use baulks of wood for sliding the grain pan in as the backend always droops down , I'm interested to see the episode with the header to see how it compares to the Laverda ones.
Thoroughly enjoying watching you do this work.👍👍
You're Getting there! Can I come and video when you run it?
@@Casterton-Vintage sure no problem
Thumbs up,you must be really pleased! Thanks.
You are a very meticulous and positive person. so precious
@@Thuy_Dailylife thanks that's good of you to say so 👍
another good video some times an extra pair of hands comes in handy
Sights and sounds of the past the hum of the mill and the slap of the belt as the joining piece comes round 👍
Old school power 💪💪💪 need 500 hp to pull that nowadays 🙄😳🤣👍
Just a comment might be useful i knew you put up a video every Saturday and couldn't find it and discovered You Tube had unsubscribed me from the channel 🤬 this has happened a few times on farming related channels i follow 🙄
@bobpaterson1845 that's not very good I wander why just remember fenland crusader typ in and it'll come up 👍
Good video again 👍 reminded me of how if a belt or bearing on the side of the combine went just about had to dismantle the whole machine 🙄🤬🤣 for the age of the machine the rasp bars or beater bars whatever people call them on the concave looked in really good condition 👌 a lot of progress made this week 💪👍
Great video Steve! You are making rapid progress. We had to put our grain pan in from the back because we didn’t take the header off. It wasn’t too difficult but the front curtain was a bit fiddly! I understand that leaking curtains created a great fire risk on TVO powered 780s because of the heat of the manifold!
A old farmer once told me put moth balls in the combine once finished harvest as mice don't like moth balls . ? Great video again nearly there !
Excellent work! All looking really good - looking forward to see her in a field of corn!!
Looks like it's getting near to completion, pulling those pulleys off (them sykes pickavant hydraulic pullers are a godsend ) to replace them belts was a good call with all the "clag" that was on them (I use a radial wire brush on an angle grinder for cleaning them up ---- fierce enough to cut through deposits but doesn't attack the pulley metal), looking at your belts and pulleys they look pretty similar to Laverda 120 belts, if you're stuck for the variator belt we've got lots of various sizes, also in the comments Daf cars were mentioned the model were daf 33 (i think there was a 31 also), interesting as the cvt (constantly variable transmission) worked in reverse as well as forward so if you're brave enough you can get dafs to near 70 mph backwards as well as forwards.
Super video. Looking forward to working my way through this series 👍
@@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery thanks 😊
Thanks
Another great video ! Thanks very much !
Great video Steve! Coming along nicely! What are the paddles like in the elevators? Ours had all been well chewed by rats so we had to make new ones- hope yours are good!
@user-cn2cv5gk1m not to bad Ashley usable 👍
Won't be long before the 780 is doing her bit
i its another good video showing how its done
Rape and some of the Barley has gone here, soon be time to give her a days work! 👍
Another great episode in the series 💪 was a nightmare back in the day having to just about strip the combine down to replace belts and bearings 🙄😬🤣 was the wheel on the spares combine an original as i noticed it had lugs welded on it for dual wheels or cage wheels 🤔 used to curse back in the day sitting in the open among the dust and chaff but it was often your ears that alerted you to any problems that might have arisen whereas in these modern cabs gotta rely on electronic sensors to warn you 😬 remember a daf car back in the day that ran a very similar vario pulley system for drive 🤣 looking forward to next episode 👍
@bobpaterson1845 yes both wheels had had lugs welded in and original to the combine, i do remember the little daf car's 👍
Another excellent update! Great progress - should run very sweetly after all your effort!
The 780 will look like a new machine ! Soon be in the field I cannot wait it will be great to see her go ! Great video again !
Brilliant video.
Getting nearer everytime to being finished, do you think you'll get to use her ianger this year? also was it an optical illusion or is the wide flat belt fot the threshing drum seperating a bit into bands?
@stevehill4615 yes it's about buggered along with a few others
Thanks
Another excellent video Steve. I seem to recall that our oil pressure gauge pipe broke too and we replaced with a copper one- must be a design fault! Ours doesn’t have a proper clutch- just a hand lever next to the table lift levervwhich opens and closes the variable pulley- all a bit Heath Robinson!
@user-cn2cv5gk1m yes we have the same lever but it's linked in with the clutch pedal
The 780 we had was a bit older with a hand operated hydraulic clutch and an inline injector pump...your threshing belt tension problem may be with the soft engine mounting/s as it will allow the engine to sit farther away from the drum and hold the belt slightly tighter in engagement. On ours the engagement lever didn't need to be pushed hard down to engage it where as yours seems to need a good push to lock it suggesting overtightness. The short bar holding the gearbox to the chassis broke on ours a few times before we realised there was an engine mount problem. Still have the radiator and hydraulic pump from our Massey Harris 780 Special here.
Another wonderful half an hour ,thanks very much !
Another brilliant Saturday morning video fix 👌when you showed the final drive sprockets just thought to myself how could any operator ignore the sound of the chain ripping over the sprocket 😳😕😕 fantastic find having that belt tensioner in the box 👍 and your comment about brake tensioner just reminded me how old I'm getting 🤔🤣🤣
interesting video its all coming along nicely
Another excellent video! Great progress, good to see her moving! My favourite combine, looked right from the word go!
She's nearly there cannot wait to the 780 in work another 780 saved ! Great video again !
A little bit of S K wizardry and away she goes Great videos all of them
I can remember when the TVO ones in good working order were being scrapped for £20, mid/ late sixtys...
@@philleggitt3005 sad 😔
you got the tele going again then, looks like she leaks down rather quickly, nice job getting engine in and running sounds lovely
that is a sod of a job to install. Looking good
@guymorton2327 thanks, the roller frame made it a lot easier i must say 👍
Excellent video, some great footage! Took me back to my youth!
great to see the progress
Excellent video again 👍 wouldn't be right if all the pieces just fell into place would it 🤔🤣 very nice sounding engine that 💪💪 just a shame about the Bendix never seen one seized up like that before 😕 can you get stop cable or do you just use a piece of piano wire 🤔
@bobpaterson1845 thanks bob i made one out of mig wire liner and a length of stainless tie wire and and soldered it to the original pull lever works well
@@FenlandCrusader Great video! Starts and runs really nicely! Can’t wait to see it turning all the machinery. The dipstick and the distributor on the Austin Newage are both on the same side of the engine as yours - must have been very difficult changing and setting the points……..!
Still better sound than my daf xg ,and I bet does just as good a job as a £250,000 combine today Great workmanship steve
👍
She's a tight fit need to be a midget to work on her ? Nearly there great video again !
Excellent progress! Coming along very nicely!
Good ob getting the motor in and running (I'll take the Fiat/Laverdas with the engine behind the grain tank in a nice lift out cradle anytime more than the Massey), pity about the starter, is the bendix pinion stuck in the forward (engaged ) position, as it might be although the solenoid is working the contacts and busbar in the cap are burnt and/or blackened so no current flow (had this on a few machines i've re-comissioned), also with the engine and gearbox mounts if you're going to have to replace them instead of using stud, stud mountings using (of the same diameter & height) threaded socket types with a bolt would make putting the new ones in really easy.
Been away for a few days so just caught up with this video! Great stuff! We used a borrowed engine crane and fitted the bell housing on before refitting. Our flat belt was completely useless so I got a new one made up by someone in Kings Lynn which we fitted over the drive pulley as the engine went back in. It was a little tight initially but stretched enough are leaving in gear to release the threshing mechanism from the engine for starting up. I seem to remember that getting some of the engine bolts back in was a pain in the arxe!
I never like doing the sealing canvas and sliding skirts on grain pans either and always end up dropping a nut or washer in the fanning mill which then has to be fetched out, quick question concerning the bearing retaining nut on the gearbox input shaft, would it be worth putting a spot of loctite on the thread to ensure the nut can't come undone again? also regarding the sucking air in the fuel system on the telehandler (is it a JCB 520?), if it's got mainly metal pipes have a check of the "fit" of the pipes in things such as the filter heads etc as any pipe flares or olives can take on a compressed set letting air in, careful use of ptfe tape or loctite 577 will seal them up.
@stevehill4615 yes still got that job to sort out I'll do the rubber pipe first and see where we go from there and it's a 520/4
@@FenlandCrusader yeah, we've got a 530-4 in and we had a problem with the sealing O ring on the fuel filter where glass bowl sealed to the filter but also the fit on the pipe from the filter to the injection pump wasn't particularly clever, also if you're after belts for the Massey (thinking the wide flat belt particularly) we've got a lot of nos that came from Burgess's they sold up.
@stevehill4615 Ok that's interesting we'll see what happens when I get her running 👍
Like the idea of using ATF and a polishing mop on the faded paintwork, i'm gonna try and get the boss (Dave Rushton machinery) to invest in a polisher as we need a means of reviving paintwork/plastics on the machines we get in (we do a lot of exporting pre electric/electronic and hydraulic combines to developing countries ---- they don'twant anything that can't be repaired by a bit of metalwork or replacing bushes/bearings, belts or chains).
