    Very good information crystal clear and to the point. I am a US Citizen retired and financially very self sufficient. Did a 3 week vacation trip to Switzerland last month and fell in love with the country. Are there any avenues for me to stay long term as a retiree with my own source of funds (not depending on any free handouts / welfare from Swiss govt). Also can i buy a property like a condo / flat for my own use. I realize the properties are very expensive and its not an issue. Please kindly advise what options are available. Thanks!

      Thank you! Very happy to hear you loved it here! To stay in Switzerland you'd have to prove that you have 'close ties' to the country (indicators can be personal involvement with a local community (sports/hobby group, volunteering, close friendships, proof of speaking the language etc.). Otherwise you're able to stay here for up to 180 days/year with a tourist visa.

What happened to war refugees from other countries? did they have to return or not? it's also hard to tell when the war will end or if the war wills tart again. i think recently the siwss goverment has alreday extended the s status recently until 2026

    if you are from a third world country (developing country citizen) then it's an advantage if you get swiss citizenship as early as possible. if you take too much social financial help, you lose very fast your right to live in switzerland, and there are statistics which show, that for getting a job in switzerland, it's an advantage to have swiss citizenship

    @AAA_AskAnAttorney, really find your videos informative, thank you so much. I have a question if you dont mind, I arrived to CH from the UK in 2018 just before brexit and was on a L permit for 2 years then lost my contract job in Nov 20, then managed to get a permanent job with a 5 year B permit since Jan 21. Am i right in thinking that I can apply for the fast track C permit in Jan 26 which is the renewal date of the B permit but for nationality I would actually have to be in Switzerland for 12 years as they would not count the first 2 years that I was on a L permit? (PS I meet the language requirements A2 written and B1 oral and am well integrated)

    • @AAA_AskAnAttorney
      @AAA_AskAnAttorney 2 місяці тому

      Thank you! Based on your info, you should be able to get the C permit after 5 years total here (as a UK citizen). And yes for the citizenship you need to have had your residence here for 10 years, but the time with an L permit won't be considered.

    Then why it is like that in Switzerland do they hate forigners? it is like 10 years to apply for permit C(for non-european) and 5 years to apply for citizen(15 years overall) with a B1 or B2 level of a local language, or minimum 3 years of marriage 5 years living in a canton and high level of a local language is expected too with a lot of weirdly hard rules! why it is like that in Switzerland unlike to other countries?

    Great video, thank you! Can I, as a Swiss, marry my brazilian boyfriend and have him move to switzerland so he can work here while I finish my studies? I know that once married, you have to apply for family unification where you have to proof that you can financially support yourselves. I am still a student so would this still work if my parents say they’re ready to support us until he gets a job?

    • @AAA_AskAnAttorney
      @AAA_AskAnAttorney 2 місяці тому

      Thank you! Yes, once you're married, your boyfriend will be allowed to move to Switzerland and work here (provided you fulfill all conditions, including that you're able to financially support both of you). A confirmation from your parents can definitely be of great help with that since you're still a student. Ideally you hand in a statement from your parents that they are willing to cover all potential debt of you and your husbald towards the state if necessary.

      @AAA_AskAnAttorney 4 місяці тому

      Hi! To obtain a Swiss C permit you must have stayed in Switzerland for 5 years straight without a break (as a spouse of a Swiss citizen) before you apply. For the Swiss citizenship it's either 5 years of residence in Switzerland while having been married for 3 or 6 years of marriage if you live abroad. In the later case you need to prove that you have 'close ties' to Switzerland (friends, family, previous visits, engaging in local communities etc.).

Instead of 10 years to shorter Time? Thank u very much in advance! :))

    • @AAA_AskAnAttorney
      @AAA_AskAnAttorney 4 місяці тому

      Hi, thank you so much! (1) It will be 'easier' for you because you speak the langage perfectly and know the culture etc., so obtaining a C permit should not be a problem for you. (2) While having a C, you cannot live abroad for more than 6 months per year, otherwise it expires (therefore: you have to have your primary residence in Switzland). But exceptions can be granted if requested for a good reason, f.e. if you have to live abroad for a 1-2 years because of your job. (3) I don't think so currently. The tendency seems to be to set the bar for citizenship higher.

    • @AAA_AskAnAttorney
      @AAA_AskAnAttorney 4 місяці тому

      Hi. I cannot give you an concrete answer for your specific case because I don't know all the facts. But in general: if you marry a European Union citizen who lives and works in Switzerland with a B permit, you will receive one too (provided that you both don't risk depending on social welfare, have a clear criminal record etc.). How long it takes depends on the canton and on whether or not there's reasons to not give you the permit. But if everything is fine, it should go quite fast.

    • @AAA_AskAnAttorney
      @AAA_AskAnAttorney 4 місяці тому

      Hi. If you want to retire in Switzerland you need to have 'special ties to the country' if you're from a third country. In addition you need to be over 55 years old. The minimum amount of money you need depends on your expenses and your age (meaning how long you're expected to live here). This really depends on the individual case (where you live, health costs etc.), but as a very general reference around 1 million is usually required.

      She only had the Turkish citizenship after her Swiss permit was revoked. Since Turkey is not in the EU, she could not go live in a European country. It always depends on a countrys immigration policy whether or not foreign residents are allowed to live there, but often the regulations are pretty strict.

      Hi! If you fulfill the requirements you can apply for a C permit after 5 years. If you receive it, you can apply for the Swiss nationality after 10 years of residence (5 if you're married to a Swiss citizen).

    We are in the same boat. FATCA is a disaster. I hope as a attorney you fill out the US tax return and FBAR properly. Have fun.

    Wi chame nume setigi empälige abgä ohni rot z'wärde. I füele mi als Schwizer wo si dienst gmacht het eifach nur hintergange. Mis eltischte meitschi het a fründ us Kolumbie. Mi hets gfreuit wo är gseit heit: "Aquí en Suiza, estaría encantado de servir si tuviera la ciudadanía." I würdi gar niemer ibürgere wo nid bereit isch z'diene oder de halt z'zale.

    I am being forced to leave my country because it is full of illegal immigrants. I don`t recognise the country I was born in.

    I’m sorry, but I’m 100% agree with the Swiss government. She hasn’t integrated for 40 years and now she’ on social welfare. Like other Muslims in Europe she just wants to keep her culture and doesn’t want to integrate. The rest of Europe’s countries should do exactly this. Send them home.

    Thank you so much for making these videos! There aren’t many interesting and informative videos about Switzerland out there. Pls keep them coming! ❤ I would be most interested to know more about the Swiss culture, learning Swiss German, as well as passing the citizenship test 😊
