  • Marrying someone from another country often comes with a whole bunch of rights (and obligations), which often lead to a lot of questions. In this video I'll be answering some questions about what happens if you marry a Swiss, regarding the permission to move to and work in Switzerland, obtaining a Swiss passport, buying real estate here and more. Enjoy : )

    Great channel 😊 You are right. I married my Filipino husband last year and he has B permission now. He has permission to work and found a work already. A tip to all who want marry in Switzerland and live here: Study the language already in your home country. Whithout the language here you are lost and if you don't live in places like Zürich then the people really can't speak and understand english, like here in canton Thurgau. Also for your work you need at least Level B2 in german. My husband needs C2 because he is teacher. Also you need a lot money when you bring your partner here. Keep that in mind. Greetings Susanne

      Hi. It depends if you have the Swiss nationality already or not. If so, it will be a lot easier to move to Switzerland with your husband and children. If you do kot yet have the Swiss citizenship, you should contact a Swiss consulate near you and find out what the steps are to get it.

    hello , I just discovered your channel , and i love it , so helpful , I have a question for you : I am Algerian and i study Medicine in Istanbul turkey , i would like to know is it possible for me to do my specialty ( residency programm) in switzerland ? and will it help me have a C permit after 5 years ? For instance i speack fluently 4 languages incluidng French and english.

    • @AAA_AskAnAttorney
      @AAA_AskAnAttorney  6 місяців тому

      Thank you! To study here you will have to apply for a program (masters / post doc) at the university you want to attend and prove that you fulfill all conditions and were accepted by the school. The acceptance depends on a few factors (previous studies, language skills, providing necessary financial means etc.). Once accepted you apply for a visa here.
      As for the C permit: it definitely helps if you speak French and English and studied in Switzerland. Normally you get a C permit after 10 years, unless married to a Swiss or proving that you are 'well integrated' (I have a video on that) and that you speak the language of your place of residence in Switzerland well enough. That will be French or German. Then you can get it after 5 years.

    Maybe I'm a spoil-sport but it also has to be said. The Foreign Office does background checks. If you have a criminal record, you may be denied entry although you're married to a Swiss. It depends on the nature of crime you have committed. Even EU citizens who have a bilateral agreement with us are sometimes refused. Some people think that we don't know if they still receive a permit, but we always know. It's only a question of tolerance and surveillance if it's not a capital crime.
    Another thing is the parent issue. Depending on their age, they have to prove they own the funds to sustain themselves, or you have to pledge for them. That's for medical costs. They are astronomous and if these people fall ill, they have to foot those bills. Health insurances may refuse to insure them if they have never lived and financially contributed before. Hence, you will have to evidence a minimum of approx CHF 80'000.-- of funds frozen for eventual medical bills. Without that, and if you are not wealthy enough, they won't get a permit.
    Please take this from somebody who has worked at the Foreign Office and issued permits herself.

    Great video, thank you! Can I, as a Swiss, marry my brazilian boyfriend and have him move to switzerland so he can work here while I finish my studies? I know that once married, you have to apply for family unification where you have to proof that you can financially support yourselves. I am still a student so would this still work if my parents say they’re ready to support us until he gets a job?

    • @AAA_AskAnAttorney
      @AAA_AskAnAttorney  12 днів тому

      Thank you!
      Yes, once you're married, your boyfriend will be allowed to move to Switzerland and work here (provided you fulfill all conditions, including that you're able to financially support both of you). A confirmation from your parents can definitely be of great help with that since you're still a student. Ideally you hand in a statement from your parents that they are willing to cover all potential debt of you and your husbald towards the state if necessary.

      Yeah some otherwise people will just marry for benefits and then het divorced and then the partner can become a problem of the country. 5 years gives you time to learn the language and find a job. Besides you get a permit which allows you to work and do many things in the 5 years so it’s not like you are restricted from doing anything.

    • @AAA_AskAnAttorney
      @AAA_AskAnAttorney  5 місяців тому +2

      Thank you! There is no general answer to your question because it depends on where you request the permit (abroad: in which country; in Switzerland: in which canton), on where you get married (Switzerland or abroad) and on the individual case, f.e. if you need to hand in more documents, answer more questions etc. The best way to know is always to call the competent authority directly and ask how long it usually takes them.

    I always wondered if it's beneficial with taxation living in Switzerland if I make beyond 150k euro per year? Like how high would the bracket be in lets say Zürich? (a scandinavian EU citizen asking)

    • @AAA_AskAnAttorney
      @AAA_AskAnAttorney  6 місяців тому +2

      Hard to say because it depends on a lot of factors (employed/self-employed; married/single; kids/no kids; wealth etc.). There's a tax calculator for Zürich you could check out (www.zh.ch/de/steuern-finanzen/steuern/steuern-natuerliche-personen/steuererklaerung-natuerliche-personen/steuerrechner.html?calculatorId=income_assets). For a single person, who earns 150k a year, it estimates taxes of Fr. 32'000.- total (7'362.- federal tax) for 2023. But as I said this is a very generalized estimate, because it really depends on quite a few aspects. Still hope this is helpful to you :).

    • @AAA_AskAnAttorney
      @AAA_AskAnAttorney  4 місяці тому +3

      This is hard to say because it depends on several factors (community in ZH, in which you live; married/single; kids/no kids; wealth, other types of income etc.). But there is a tax calculator for Zürich you can check out: www.zh.ch/de/steuern-finanzen/steuern/steuern-natuerliche-personen/steuererklaerung-natuerliche-personen/steuerrechner.html?calculatorId=income_assets. For a single person, earning 100k a year, it estimates taxes of about Fr. 16'300.- for 2024 (community of ZH tax, state and federal tax). But this is a generalized estimate, that really depends on a few aspects.
      But ZH is known to have realtively low taxes 😉. 30% seems way too high to me (provided that's your only income).

      Hi! Since you are Italian (EU country citizen), there's no specific amount of income that you need to make. Instead you'll have to provide proof that you are self employed long-term with a business plan etc. Further you need to prove that you can financially support yourself, i.e. cover your costs here, so that there's no risk of you needing social welfare money. The costs of living here depend of course highly on where you're intending to live.

    I have no idea why UA-cam recommended this video, as I am not planning to marry a Swiss national but I do have questions. I am a U.S. Citizen and I am thinking of trying to relocate to Switzerland. First, I can speak basic German and French, will this help me to gain Swiss citizenship any faster than if I did not? Second, I have distant ancestry from Switzerland, specifically the village of Oberkulm, Aargau, although more than 8 generations back, is this taken into consideration? Third, will marrying a Swiss national support my efforts to gain citizenship? If yes to the preceding, can you advise me on how to impress a Swiss woman?

    • @AAA_AskAnAttorney
      @AAA_AskAnAttorney  6 місяців тому +3

      Speaking the language is definitely required to become a Swiss citizen, but there's other criteria too, such as the lenght of your stay in Switzerland. Your family roots go too far back with 8 generations to be taken into consideration. When married to a Swiss you can apply for the Swiss citizenship earlier (after 5 years), but you still need to meet the other criteria. Since impressing Swiss women is not my area of expertise, you'll have to find that out yourself ;)
