I sold my Fujifilm Zoom for this Prime
I had mentioned selling my 16-55 f/2.8 in past videos. Well, I finally did it. I traded it in for a Fujifilm XF 16mm f/1.4, and I couldn't be happier.

I had a Nikkormat FT2 and FTN back in the late 1970's through the 1980's. I sold them in the early 1990's. I just acquired a mint condition FT3, and immediately upon putting it in my hands it felt like home. I attached a vintage perfect top mint condition Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 AI-S lens, and the viewfinder image is nothing short of stunning. Super sharp image. Every bit of the solid feel and smooth precision mechanics just as I remember, nothing like the cheap plastic feel of todays digital Nikon's. I hope to put some color slide film through this setup along with my other AI-S lenses. It has been every bit of 38 years since I have shot color slide film through an SLR. I am anxious to see the results.

I sold my 90mm 3 days ago, but my buyer brought it back saying when he moved the spot focus to areas other than center, he got out of focus shots. Face/eye detection off, etc. I now have the lens, testing it with the spot focus dead center, first setting it to manual, defocussing and then flipping it to S and letting the lens change focus, and got fine results. My top dial is in S mode. No issues with ibis, tripod, etc. But moving the spot focus to upper left and using the same technique, I got poor focus. Face Eye detect off, boost mode on, etc., etc. Any ideas?

Straight forward and easy to understand not like some youtubers. They forget they need to appeal to real dead heads like me as it takes a while to settle into the brain. I must admit to being intimidated by this camera and I do not know why. Taking the camera on a cruise with the Fuji 18-55 lens fitted, its big step up from my point and shoot Fuji X20 which I love.and wonder wheter I should take that instead. I found everything you said in this video relateable and simple thank you. God bless that man.

I don’t think I’ve conciously believed this, but it definetely has been borne out in my photos when I‘ve shot family events and weddings. I‘ve had shot that‘s had all kinds of issues, out-of-focus (manual focus for film can be hard), lighting that‘s difficult (some modern lights blink at frequencies that match some shutter speeds making every other shot almost completely dark), extremely high ISO, to open aperture (not deep enough focus)… and in all cases, if the moment was truly strong the photos still turned out to be good and more importantly: it mattered to someone! I tend to get caught up in the finer details of both exposure and composition often. I‘ve actually found that shooting in RAW combined with using OVF (on X-Pro 2/3, X100 F/V) helps me in that regard. I know the composition won‘t be completely accurate due to parralax so I don‘t fret it, I can‘t see the exposure (or even the depth of field, like you could on DSLR) and the I see through in the speed of light (not the speed of the EVF) so it’s easier to actually catch the moment. I still feel like I‘m not very good, tho, it might be down to practice (I‘m not a proffessional). I‘d would *love* to see you explain your process and technique for how to exactly capture that moment (if you haven’t in your other videos already)! Can‘t believe I haven’t watched this video of yours yet. Easily your best one I‘ve seen so far! Thanks so much for making it!

For me it’s the X-Pro3 (which recently used prices have started to come down enough for me to afford). However, a lot of what I like about them is shared across the X-Pro line in general (my previous favorite camera is the X-Pro2). The biggest reason for me is how they handle. I don’t know any camera that’s as good to shoot with as them. I just find them wonderfully ergonomic, easy to understand and incredibly efficient in use. Concrete examples. The exposure compensation is has perfect amount of resistence and is prefectly placed. It’s so seamless to use it. I have a disability (born with a split thumb that where one bit had to be removed) and that thumb has made a lot of cameras hard to operate for me. Not the X-Pro line. It’s wonderfully ergonomic, even for me with my slight disability. So many small details are considered exactly the way that works best for me. Take the shutter dial. It automatically locks into A, but nothing else. That’s exactly how I want it to be. With X-T line of cameras it has a toggle, so I’d had to toggle it when switching between the A or other ones… I’d probably just end up bumping it. The hybrid OVF/EVF viewfinder! Just having an OVF on such a compact camera is amazing in itself. And it’s the rangefinder style OVF where you see the world, not through the lens with limited aperture like with DSLRs. Since it’s not a totally accurate OVF it also encourages you to not be too fuzzy about composition and worry more about the moment. Being able to switch between OVF and EVT is also brilliant for flash photography. You can set your background exposure with EVF (which you might want pretty dark), and then use the OVF that’s always easy to see through to take the photos. And the OVF is lagfree. I’m not a proffessional photographer, but I’d argue that this culminates in a camera that’s excellent for event photography. The flip-in LCD of the X-Pro3 takes it even further in my estimation. The only situation where I want an LCD is for waist level viewfinder situations anyway. Otherwise I don’t want no damn LCD shining in my face anyway. Yeah I can turn them off using view modes, but simply flipping down the LCD is so much faster than futsing with those view modes anyway. And yeah, I also do have an emotional connection with this camera series (tho I never owned the first one). I am selling my X-Pro2 now, but that’s only because I’ve tested and confirmed that the X-Pro3 is truly better for me, but it was an *excellent* camera. As for newer and older cameras and resolution and the like. I believe photo quality is as much a qualitatative (i.e. not objective data) as it is a strictly data one, and newer is not always better. For instance, while I’m happy with my upgrade to the X-Pro3, I do consider the image quality to actually be a slight downgrade from the X-Pro2. The X-Pro2 had more beautiful noise pattern for high ISO (and easier to tone down in post), and richer colours. I know some feel like the X-Pro1 had better sensor still (and looks like it had richer colors still). Anyway, thanks for making all these videos throughout the years. I’ve watched some of them (esp. those on the f2 lenses) many times I think! Always great to see people talking about their love for photography and cameras.

I found a CURE to the annoying 'zoom-zoom' noise of this lens. As I use it on my X-E4 only for close-up & portrait, I know the focal distance will always hit between 0.3m(bit like macro) and 1.8m, with aperture never exceeding f/2.8. By setting an AF limiter(0.3m to 1.8m), the lens stops making continuous squeezing sound when half-pressing the shutter button, replaced with a short and non-obtrusive 'zi-zi' sound. No more wild hunting for focus as I force it to an allowed focal range in AF mode(from a forest to a farm yard?). When I point the camera at any object outside this AF range, a red 'out-of-focus' frame displays on LCD with no movement of lens at all!!! P.S. When use it for landscape/environment-priority/street), I almost always use manual focus + zone focus.

Although I am no way a professional photographer (just hobby and okay at it), I understand what you mean of that connection with cameras. Fujifilm X100V was my first fuji camera, and it converted me from the previous system I had. Having the dials, and options to get you more connected with the moment of the capture, to stop and truly think about the photo you envision, instead of having all of the automatic algorithms decide for us, is the art in the making.

The two lenses I used the most on the X-Pro1 were the Zuiko 21/2 and 28/.8. The 21 is not cheap, while the 28 is. That pair gave wonderful results and gave me a perfect pair of street lenses. I traded the X-Pro1 but regret it and am thinking of getting another.

Last week I had my 100v, A7iii + 3 primes stolen in a car prowl. Positive side, an opportunity to rethink re-do my lineup! Guess which one I went back to first? Fuji. I loved the V, but after 2 years I feel like I graduated from it and it was starting to feel a bit toyie. But I love the small form factor, and weight, so I was strongly leaning toward the T30ii. Went into the store to confirm my feelings and it was a big no, it felt way too thin and no grip made you feel like you had to pinch to hold it. Then I held the X-S10 and it was a dream. Sure, no analog dials, but now I can’t go back, love the PASM and just the look of the dials. And of course, I had to buy my first Fuji prime and it had to be the 35mm 1.4. Today is day 2 with it and got a constant smile. I’ll get the Sony system in the spring because I just need it for sports, but the Fuji is going to get way more use for its style, color, weight, looks, picture quality etc….
