Rock Front Rain Hoody ($60) VS Enlightened Equipment Visp ($250)

We compare the unique features of the Front Rain Hoody with our trusty and more "standard" Enlightened Equipment Visp Rain Jacket (older version). While our EE Visp has been our go to for years, the Rock Front Rain Hoody has some interesting features not found together on another jacket we've seen for $60 and 5.6 ounces. Sizing: Our MED Rock Front fits larger and longer than our EE Visp in LRG....

Headlamp features can be confusing (at least for us). We attempt a simple comparison of 2 similar and great headlamps, the 2022 NU25 "UL" and the newest NU20 "Classic" model. The NU20 Classic effectively replaces the NU25 2017 model. Our Conclusions: The NU20 Classic is smaller, lighter, and less expensive than the NU25 UL. How does it perform if your data signal is very low or no data when out? Can you on still use it ?
@Elysian330 Performs the same... No need to be connected to a cellular network to fly it.
Hover Air x1 is the best
How is it holding up so far? definetely eyeing it rn, but unsure if i should just go with a more traditional dwr jacket with a greater water resistance. On the website right now its saying 2500mm again, instead of 5000 and instead of the 5000 stated in this comment section further up above
"Why?" Because the vast majority of American hikers are not gay. Of course, there are European gay hikers who wear fishnet. And don't forget female stripper/hikers - they might wear fishnet too? One supposes that the very few American gays prefer their walking to be done in parades in San Francisco? Perhaps, Brynje could find a market amongst Bud-Light drinkers? Anyway... you (videographer) asked and now you have your answer. The honest answer few commenter's have the fortitude to provide. You are very welcome.
love that I can clip it to the side of my camp chair, pivoted up at my lil table.. wave my hand by it to lit up the table... and that it will stay in red light mode at the same time... and instead of using the provided headband I can secure it to my pack strap by me shoulder..
Great video!
thanks for the code!
🎯 Why? Because when ordering…they NEVER have size “L” available…in black‼️
@@Ou81gi812 Yeah, I got blue when it was in stock
@ Sometimes it’s hard to justify paying $75 to $125 for a “long John” top…getting the color you want makes it a little less painful.
How is the fit in the chest + shoulders and overall roominess of the medium Rock Front in relation to the large Visp? I have a medium Visp and I am wondering if I should stick with a medium in the Rock Front or explore a small
@btp6262 Just tried them both on to check...they feel almost the same in the chest/shoulders. If the sizing holds true for other sizes, I suspect the Small RF would be about the same as a Medium Visp...but don't hold me to that! Good luck!
Just good old fashioned string vests. This was normal thinking in the 1950’s and well before.
Toxic masculinity. "Real men don't wear mesh." Biology encompasses living organisms, regardless of chromosomal makeup or phenotypic expression. Even sex expression can be viewed on a spectrum, or potentially on a bimodal distribution, rather than as a strict binary. Socially constructed gender roles might function effectively with animatronic creations but fail to adequately render the complexities of human beings and their unique schemas of gendered expression. Perhaps it's time for individuals to abandon rigid societal norms and embrace the diverse collective of the human family.

Why no socks?
I had asked customer service. And in fact it's a matter of space. This means that you would need bigger shoes to put on 2 pairs of socks. This increases friction and so it is not recommended
@ how about a hybrid of a little in the toes because my feet sweat enough. Avoiding the very tips for spacing and friction. How come friction is not a problem for the gloves
@@shadowdance4666 I was also thinking about this because my feet also sweat a lot. Concerning the gloves, there is not the same weight constraint the feet all receive your weight and are locked up
@shadowdance4666 It already exists with a net on top but not this company
@MakMateo I thought that u needed to keep it next to the skin. This mesh fad is very intriguing. I’ve got too much money and time not to indulge in the experiment I believe
Bonjour so which one is the best ?
@patriceb26 Right now I prefer the PadPal, but that is just my opinion. Main reason is there is no battery to charge...I already have too many things to keep charged. Hope this helps!
Ok merci 👍
After watching this video I concur. The weight is the biggest difference and you're already carrying that battery weight's difference of 150mah regardless of if it's in the headlamp or a separate battery bank.
You can purchase mesh cycling under layers in both styles for much cheaper than the hiking targeted versions. They work exactly the same. Don't get sucked into the world of overpriced hiking gear.
@christopherhaak9824 Good info! Is there a specific brand cyclists tend to use?
Thank you for the info. Great info, actually. But not enough Willow.
Got mine in the mail today from their cyber Monday sale. My girlfriend said I looked like I was going to a gay nightclub.😂😂
fell in love with fishnet back in the late 60's. Just basic work physiology of clothing. Good to see the return of fishnet in the USA. After REI stopped selling with the advent of Poly pro.
Didnt watch the video but i can tell you its because it looks gay
The biggest benefit of the Durston one is a metal flip lock. I'm trying to work through warranty to get my Leki trekking pole replaced because one of the plastic clip snapped right off. Having it be metal ensures it won't break as easily. I think it also important to note that the Zpacks one also comes with a Cork option for just a few extra ounces (and cheaper as well vs. the Iceline when it comes back in stock). It's been a long time since I've had a foam handle trekking pole but I vastly prefer the cork handles that I use now. 127cm max height for the Durston one? That is on the short end for a pole? I set mine at 120cm at 5ft 9in so it's not a problem for me. But for anyone over 6 ft tall and seems like a potential dealbreaker.
@Xhadp I also had Leki plastic flip locks break. Luckily they sent new hardware as a fix.
Brynjie today comes in cotton net, polypro net and a wool/poly blend fish net. I started wearing the cotton fish net back in the late 60's. I now wear the new poly blend, which I really like. Both the cotton and the poly do a great job of wicking moisture off the skin and creating a Tropical environment. (70 to 85F) where humans function best. The fish net is designed to wick moisture off the skin not as radiation protection from the sun. As an outer shirt it is not going to cool you in the sun because the sun is hitting your skin. On a hot day to lower the body temperature wear a ventilation shirt over the top of the fish net. Such as a linen long sleeve or light cotton shirt with vents and untucked to allow air flow which cause moisture to evaporate, creating cooling. By enclosing the Fishnet in winter with a thin wool undergarment, under a wind proof out shell you will have a winning combination of dry skin, moisture moving to the mid layer out the bottom of the wind jack, with warm air trapped in the holes in the fishnet. With no wind and strenuous physical activity, you should be in the tropical comfort range at zero Freiheit ( the freezing point of sea water.) At colder temperatures a second mid layer is necessary such as a mid-weight Alpaca sweater for strenuous activity. My experience with the poly pro with holes is not effective under stress loads. I do like to wear it to sleep in, even at home.
What drone hovers completely still?
I think it’s a fetishized material now. I tried it but it just reminded me of sexy club kids. I’m not sure I’m sexy enough for a mesh base layer.
How do you feel the sizing was is the Tabu's? Im thinking about picking up a pair while they are on sale.
@middleearthchronicles2269 I wear a 11 in both...fit is just right. Hope that helps
@@WillowWalksTheAT Thanks! Side note, not sure if you have tried split toe neoprene surf socks yet, but several companies like Dakine and Patagonia make them in different thicknesses. I haven't tried hiking in them, but they are great on the kayak when the temps drop. Might be worth exploring.
@middleearthchronicles2269 Thanks! Have tried those but once they got wet, feet got super cold...even with wool socks under them.
Just got the same one in XL. 11/10 trail jacket. Very good video showcasing why it's perfect. For anyone looking for one there are some on yama store left. You'll need your own proxy to source it outside japan likely.
@86spirit60 It's worked well for me too. Good info on where to find one. Also noticed the Finetrack site has some sizes back in stock. Take it easy
Your video popped up on my feed again. But I had a random thought... You just need the inner tent clips to the opposite buckle near the peaks. So use the stargazer kit's line to tie it off at the top of the handle. Or if Dan just sells the buckles, then it's a simple cord loop.
@@aaalllen That's a great idea! Thanks
Not Rick, but stumbled upon this channel randomly and just wanted to say its one of the cutest and most wholesome on this site, while also being a great source of information. Especially love how Willow's ears flap when she runs sometimes. Please keep it up !!!
Ultralight in ounces? To make matters worse, a metric hybrid by using a decimal system? Ounces are subdivided by 16 drams. Otherwise use grams like any sane country.
you should just look into getting a normal xmid loll would allow for the removable inner, has guyline loops etc.
@Nofacefarmz Thx! Our normal X-Mid actually inspired our Pro "Tarp Mod". Found ourselves not using the net insert much so figured we could cut the inner out of the Pro and have an awesome tarp...
I'd say it comes down to the US being closer to the equator. Every time I see Norway, UK or some other Northen hiking trip it is always windy and colder than 90% of conditions I'll encounter. Instead give me a layer I can remove. And a layer is still a layer trapping in wramth and the sweat throughout the day regardless of whatever claim you make.
I thought I asked this before but I can’t find my comment. What kind of pants are you wearing at the 3:01 mark? Thank you!
@@Dr_Heck They are the Arcteryx Stradium pants....unfortunately discontinued. Really like the ability to vent with the side zips. Have not found a comparable alternative yet. Pls let me know if you find something! Take care
@ thanks so much! I might modify my own preferred pants if I can’t track those down.
@@WillowWalksTheAT check out the fjallraven Keb troussers! They're expensive, but they have the same type of vents and are super stretchy. They honnestly feel like hiking pyjama pants but with renforcement on the lower parts!
How is the wear and tear when using with a backpack?
@mauriceheneghan1554 Haven't had enough miles on it yet to say for sure. Given it is single layer polyester, I suspect it will be good (since poly is WP on it's own, and there are not multiple layers that could delaminate). Planning another review after wet/cold AT miles this winter.
Thank you. Sounds promising. I have just received mine.
The new NU 20 classic is a pretty nice compromise. The brightness settings (most importantly to me, the low outputs) are like the NU25 360 lumen, it changes charging to USB-C, adds 4 led charge indicator lights. For me the shockcord is a downgrade from headband and the lockout doesn't work as well as the NU25 360 lm. They are getting closer to making the perfect headlamp!
Not sure how far you could hike in them and I only use them when there’s a mixture of cold and rain, but I’ve got split toe (tabi) wet socks (3mm) I wear with the Luna mono. I’m from the UK and got them from a surf shop. I can walk the dog in them, and they keep my feet dry. Not sure about long distance hikes due to the changing weather, you could always just pop em off when it dries up. Hope that helps
Thank you for the excellent comparison!
I doubt if Rab Phantom Pull-On is suitable for long-distance thru-hiking. It's a product for running, not backpacking.
I bought a NU27 for lightweight tasks, the lamp and the band are very good quality. Still, due to the small optics and battery, the beam is weak compared to my favorites, Fenix HP16R and HM65-R DT. Ofc, those are bigger and much more heavy. And not pleasant to carry in a pocket! A head-up warning about NU27: the beam is mostly focused, not floody as you can think! Not a bad thing, even at low lumens you can see well that big spot.
A perfect combination
Man I was excited to hike and camp here with my dog just to see a huge sign on the entrance NO PETS! Read on the website that no dogs allowed. I was so disappointed but looks like you were able to skirt the entrance and get away with camping with doggo which is awesome.
We found the trick was getting Willow around Back Bay Wildlife Refuge (no pets) to False Cape SP if coming from the north. The other option is coming from the south via NC. The challenge then is having to drive over the beach and finding a place to park overnight on the NC side. While pets are allowed in False Cape SP, it takes some work! We thought it was worth it!
@ I live in Virginia about 45 minutes from false cape. I take it you came in from the north hence the kayak?
@@WillowWalksTheAT *
Yup, we came in from the north in this video. We've also come in from the NC side (link below), but obviously, that would be a lot longer of a drive. The kayak trip took some planning...things like factoring in winds, water level and temps, and route. Happy to share more thoughts if you're thinking of doing it ua-cam.com/video/WFrT7OGT0w0/v-deo.htmlsi=ZwxwsKkP8Zm-Vdfe
@@WillowWalksTheAT wow man that’s awesome! Great video! I plan on doing this soon but my dogs never been on the water so I’ll have to do some preparation and see if it’s even possible. Also I’m new to backpacking so I also need to get some mileage under my belt experience wise. I’ve watched some of your videos and can tell you and your dog are seasoned backpackers!
Honest question, with the cost of the tent plus all the additional components to swap out why not just spend $270 on an Xmid2?
I'd definitely recommend the X-Mid over this Lanshan for that reason and for the X-Mids features.
Vapour has to pass through your mid layer regardless of the weather. The vest is your base layer which prevents other layers from wetting through.
