dan told me they are working on it. Although not priority n1 right because of the x-dome probably. Definitely looking forward if they ever come out with a pro version with detachable inner
@yogurette8831 Makes sense. If you look at it conventionally, one might think, "why would I buy a heavier modular DCF X-Mid instead of the lighter Pro 2?". I hope Dan offers a modular DCF X-Mid in separate parts so we could choose the set-up based on conditions. I did put the regular 2p inner net in the Pro 2 tarp and it fit well. Had to get a bit creative with the inside peak attachment, but it worked. Thx for the comment, take care
Great mod. I hammock under an open tarp. It's rare that bugs are notably bad. And if it helps someone - Tyvek, the breathable type, breaths so well that you can balloon it around your head and shoulders and breath easily beneath. After 60 years in the bush I just learned this this season. Love willow. :>)
@peterjohnson6273 Nice Tyvek tip! Sounds like we have had similar experiences with bugs. Definitely understand in some parts of the world, bugs will pick you up and carry you away, but that has not been our experience on much of the AT. We have tried a Sea to Summit net tent inside our Pro 2 Tarp...that's our plan if we think bug will be an issue. Take care
@KrizAkoni I hear the newer versions have a stronger magnet...I suspect the 2nd magnet still would hold the door more securely tho. Best of luck out there! We're following along
@Prasannathani Zpacks offers a stick on magnetic toggle (for DCF). We just put that where we wanted it zpacks.com/products/stick-on-magnet-toggle?srsltid=AfmBOopJx0fm6L4_HWqiLE88xZulEdRccAWhxeWcVFSleXlGlSRZvAQg
Hello Rick, that's a common question! We've found bugs are not a huge problem most of the year on the AT and we can mitigate them by things like campsite selection. Besides, AT shelters offer no bug protection. We have had times when we questioned our tarp idea (AT in NY in September)...and Willow HATES bugs! Those times we suffer a bit and use bug spray and cover up the best we can. Part of the fun for us is employing some fieldcraft rather than hoping our gear solves all of our problems....you know? I sense you do!! Take care sir
@@WillowWalksTheAT I've gotten old and slow and prefer my comforts. When I first hiked on the AT in 1966(?) we were using canvass tents with no floor nor bug screen. Later, our Army pup tents were the same. When I was a Scoutmaster, I came to really appreciate a modern tent. Scratch the base of her tail for me. When I did that right for Kachina, she would lick her nose in ecstacy. Good Luck, Rick
I recently bought the bug thing from flextail. Took it to Thailand to see if it worked. I had my doubts. Put it under the table when we went out for evening meals when I usually get eaten alive. Blow me down. It worked. There is a light version with no battery that runs from a power bank. May be worth having in those months.
@swampyhiker That is good to hear. We've tried the one with the rechargable battery and could not really tell if it worked. I'm guessing Thailand would be a much better test though!
@user-nu8uc8wq8v You know, we've been out in them so often that they don't really bother her (thankfully). She get's more excited when someone drops a trekking pole
Oh man, they need to offer this version!!!!
@@nathanchalecki4842 I believe Dan is working on it

What a great mod!! It looks more functional for you
you took a big step and documented it for us to learn. thanks buddy
I may need to add the 2nd magnetic toggle - I like that!

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you add the second toggle?

Nice video. What about the bugs? Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick

I feel like I understand! Willow sounds similar to Kachina....just needs some lovin' in the form of attention. Take care sir

Does Willow get terrified when there’s thunderstorms?

Want.
@TheDoddsworth Agreed! Dan and the Durston Team seem to really value user feedback and I suspect they'll take note of your comment!!😀
