After watching this video I concur. The weight is the biggest difference and you're already carrying that battery weight's difference of 150mah regardless of if it's in the headlamp or a separate battery bank.
Great video comparison. I’ve seen a bunch of these and yours was short and sweet, to the point. One thing to keep in mind is the difficulty in accurately showing on your split screen the real life feel of the red-light. What’s tricky is about this is that it takes time for the human eye to adapt to darkness, and so a very low light is just fine once your eye is adapted. Anyway, you went with the lower lumen NU20, so i guess your experience confirms my hunch. I’ll definitely get me one of those.
@RC-qf3mp Valuable comment, thx. I do think the NU20's lower lumen red light is good enough for camp chores and less disturbing to others in an AT shelter when getting up in the middle of the night. It's also nice to have the brighter red light setting too if needed. I think the NU20 has some upgraded technology as it seems more efficient overall
Thanks for the comparison. I have the discontinued model and the UL. I was quite happy with the UL. But I generally don’t need it to last so long. And so I need to consider if the weight benefit of the classic (9grams) makes it worth getting the new one. Although it does look like it packs smaller. I have paid more money to save less weight and space. 😊
@swampyhiker Hey Swampy! I also like the NU25 UL, just don't need all the modes, and wished it had a dimmer red light (like the NU20 Classic). I'm probably splitting hairs here since they are really pretty similar (I think).
I bought a NU27 for lightweight tasks, the lamp and the band are very good quality. Still, due to the small optics and battery, the beam is weak compared to my favorites, Fenix HP16R and HM65-R DT. Ofc, those are bigger and much more heavy. And not pleasant to carry in a pocket! A head-up warning about NU27: the beam is mostly focused, not floody as you can think! Not a bad thing, even at low lumens you can see well that big spot.
@@secretminie The brackets appear to be pretty different, so I think no. Mine broke as well. Here is a link to the NU25 (2017) bracket: nitecorestore.com/products/nitecore-bracket-for-nu-series-headlamps-nu25-nu32-nu33-nu43?variant=46676631519474
