    I think I told you I was going to try and squeeze down into one of these. Although looking at it, I’m thinking it might not be too much of a squeeze. I was hoping it would be waiting for me when I got back from the trail but currently sitting in the customs depot. It looks pretty sweet. I’m looking forward to watching you and Willow enjoy it. 😊

      I remember! I think you'll be happy with the space. It definitely makes us pack more efficiently but still have room for all the essentials

      @@WillowWalksTheATmine arrived. Was able to fit in it. But then I realised I had been sent the short when I bought long and large when I bought medium waist so have sent back. Hope to get the correct size back soon.

      @swampyhiker Nooooo! That's a disappointment for sure. So you really got a preview then?

      @@WillowWalksTheAT I packed my stuff in and put it on. Seems good. Was a little short in the body. Although the waist did fit since I’m in between. Hopefully it won’t be too long until I get a replacement

      Hopefully it ships quickly! I've found I have to cinch the waist, then adjust the shoulder straps, then get the waist belt right, then tighten the shoulder straps again. Otherwise it seems the fit wonky

    Decent load out - I’d probably dump the liner. 13lbs is a number I have difficulty breaking.

      Yeah, we're still thinking through where we could cut weight/space while being safe/comfortable. It'll be interesting to see other reviews as people start getting their Waptas. It's definitely not smaller or much heavier than the Pa'lante/Nashville/Zpacks packs many gram counters use...

    how can it be that this fits all in that backpack. I would need the Kakwa 55 to fit all in 😅 how did you do that?

    • @WillowWalksTheAT

      lol! key for us has been compressing bulky stuff such as sleeping quilt and clothing as much as possible. The Wapta has quite a bit of volume in it's external pockets, so that helps a lot too! Take care!

      @Lamosca44 Hope you enjoyed! In warmer weather I use a 40°F synthetic quilt from Mountain Laurel Designs, a Thermarest Uberlite pad, and a Sea to Summit Reactor liner.

    This has been very helpful, thank you.
    (You probably know this already but your easiest way to cut weight is leaving all these stuff/dry sacks at home and replacing them with a pack liner like Nyloflume. Except for the tent one and one or two quart ziplocs you don't need the rest. Use a mosquito net to keep socks and clothes together. There's half a pound of weight savings that don't cost you anything and also volume gain for two or three additional meals. Next item to focus on would be repair and med kit).
    What size Hyperlite pack cube is that? Need to replace my old food bag.
    Happy trails and thanks again!

      Glad it was helpful! Yeah, we use a lot of stuff sacks. Main reason is I hike with a dog and it's super nice to have everything contained and organized in the tent since she lays down where I'd normaly just dump stuff out. I do need to weigh them all and see the weight penalty I'm adding.
      For the HMG pods, I used 3 types in the video. A 10L side-entry for the quilt, an 8L side-entry for the clothes, and a 9L zippered pod for the Med/Repair Kit. Def note that the zippered ones are just taped and not sewn, so the tape can fail if the pod is over stuffed, and there is not really a way to hang it. I see HMG now offers a food bag that might work better. We use a Hill Top Packs food bag. Hope this helps!

      @@WillowWalksTheAT It does help, thank you! Wasn't sure if the pods fit and now I can go see on their website if the food bag has the same diameter than your 9 liter pod that fits. I like the idea of not looking for my spoon so much when I am starving.
      I feel ya on the dog. Nothing wrong with doing it this way, I just saw your other comment about dropping some more weight and this measure helped me in the past. You could still put the non used gear inside your bag liner to keep it away from your dog and fur. It would be a little less accessible but I would give it a try to see if you like it. Also zip locs don't really get dog hair stick to them unless they are wet. Mosquito nets however...
      Happy trails!

    Hi could I ask what kind of funny pack you used there seems awesome and easy to carry the way you did it?

    • @WillowWalksTheAT
      @WillowWalksTheAT  7 місяців тому +1

      Hey, it's a ThruPack fanny...the "Summit Bum Pocket" model with an extra stretchy mesh on the front. I ordered it from Garage Grown Gear: www.garagegrowngear.com/products/summit-bum-pocket-by-thrupack?_pos=1&_sid=0951d9527&_ss=r
      Looks like if you order directly from ThruPack, the extra pocket would be a custom add on. Big fan of this fanny. It has held up great and the phone sleave is super handy. Hope this helps!

    how does this fit in and compare with the kawa 40 and 55m

    • @WillowWalksTheAT
      @WillowWalksTheAT  8 місяців тому +4

      Really almost a different category of pack...since it's frameless. We have both the Kakwa 40 and 55 and find the Wapta has some of the same awesome features (great material and easy to reach side pockets). We've found the Wapta will mostly fit all of the gear that our Kakwa 40 carries, but we have to pack it differently as there is more space on the outside vs the inside. Being frameless with no load lifters, the hip belt seems to hold a decent amount of weight and keep much of it off our shoulders. I would be comfortable with 40+ lbs in the Kakwa, but I think that would be pushing the comfort level of the Wapta some. Hope this helps!
