I enjoyed the video. I was surprised by the Skid steer commentary. My experience was that my John Deere skid steer would go anywhere it wanted, and it didn’t matter what was in the way. We rarely have snow but I was shocked by your struggle
@RockhillfarmYT I took it down a trail I have that the tractor would come out of 2wd with no chains prob spin a bit, but would bet dollars to doughnuts it would make it just fine, the skid steer I had to dig it out twice, and then it was super sketchy sliding. I thought about this after words, I think, the reason why is because of how low ground pressure these machines are because they have the weight spread out over such a big patch of ground with low or little ground pressure, the conditions may have been just right for that to slide, I had the snow pusher on it, that weighs more then the standard bucket. OR its possible it was a rookie error as I don't have much for experience on rubber tracked machines? I also had a similiar experience in my driveway where th3 gates are in approx. 10" of snow. I only have my chained tractor to reference on my property but I have 3-4 videos of that pushing 2 feet kf snow in different storms with no issues at all. I guess I need to buy some Chains
@ yeah, I’m sure you were doing everything right. I just don’t have experience in snow I guess. On dry ground that machine should relocate your house
Nice ! And that’s a nice view. lol I appreciate the humour on you missing the city 👍😂
@@farmlifewithnancy2497 I am in a much better place here for sure

Got me puzzled Keep us posted
@@hallandskidder6343 will do
Any idea what the steepest degree slope you have taken you tractor on? I have similar terrain on my property and need to cut a trail back
@Designhunter9125 no, I don't know, I have loaded rears and 2" wheel spacers they help with stability, the chains never come off these help from sliding as well. If I had to do it over I think I would have waited until I had the log skidder, it will do it, but there is risk. Old skidders are a blast to operate and they were built for this stuff. Prob not the answer you were seeking, but that's how I would have done it. If not you will need a grapple and a box blade with a top and tilt cylinder
I would check for any loose bolts on things like the engine mounting, trans mounts, loader, and anything else that you can see and touch. Some of the smaller tractors have an input shaft from the engine to trans/hydro but yours might just be a cast unit direct to the engine. If it does have a visible shaft from engine to trans, check for anything loose or moving abnormally. All of this with the engine off...
@jdboy9 as a hydro the main pump in the video is silver in color on the side of the engine, is this what you mean by input?
@@Mountaintoptractorthose are your hydraulic pumps on the side of the engine. The hydrostatic (hydro) drive is attached to the engine going towards the rear of the tractor. It is what drives the tractor forward and backwards. There will be a driveshaft going from the front axle backwards but that isn't what you want to inspect. Look for shiny spots around bolts that would indicate movement when you are looking around for loose stuff.
@jdboy9 ok, I will check that out, any idea what the shaking is with the rough idle?
@Mountaintoptractor I would think something with the flywheel or whatever the means of transferring the engine power to the hydrostatic drive. Might not be anything you can see. For starters though like mentioned just check for anything loose. If everything looks good then probably should have it looked at.
Nice video!
@FullCircleOzarks thank you. It accomplishes the task kf not having to bend over to pick up rounds
Bigger the better!
100 yards x 50 yards is (300 feet times 150 feet= 45,000 square feet). An acre is 43,560 square feet. You have roughly an acre to work with. I would think an acre would be plenty big enough for 40 cords a year, but it doesn't give you much room for growth.
I did not think of it in acres, Good point. Thank you!
I agree bigger is better 👍merry Christmas
The bigger the better!

AH, MUSIC 2 MY EARS. LUVED MY C-5 NEAR INT'L FALLS, MINN. WITH GOOD WOOD AND DRY AND LEVEL SKID TRAIL COULD PULL ALMOST 2 CORDS
@kingtut8381 I never seem to run short on power pulling fur or pine (all that's here) although it does have a tendency to pop out of 1st gear when underload going up steep hills. Waiting on a new transmission (rebuilt) to arrive to swap it out. Have lots of videos of the skidder pulling here in the mountains. At 7,500'.

@tanyahalden2726 it's nice for sure
Nice job ! And great angle
Magnetic mount on the top of the arch for skidder.
@ right on. I need that 👍
Don't forget to check out the build video!
The engineering is the fun part. Figuring out how to use gravity to your advantage and save on your back. I built something similar and took a huge amount of ethnic engineering jokes. My goal was to be able to do 1 cord per hour by myself. I’m not quite there yet but no more bending over at the log pile. I can process enough firewood for the winter in 2 weekends. Cannot justify spending thousands of dollars on a mechanical processor that sits idle 51 weeks out of the year. Thanks for sharing.
I do still need a conveyor downstream from the splitter. So do you. Keep on keeping on, you’ll get there.
@davidanderson1620 I discovered that my biggest hold up in the process was the winch and waiting on a single log to advance. So I have since built a firewood table that cost me $20 (not pretty, but works) this table allows me to cut 3-5 logs at a time then move them to the downhill feed, much more efficient, a d I still don't have to bend over, I have a video of building it out already, later today around 3:30 I have a short 3 minute video that shows it in use.
GRA 8 SKIDDER, THEY CAN PULL UP TO ONE AND ONE HALF CORDS PER DRAG BUT NOT IN 3-4 FEET OF SNOW
This was the 1st or 2nd video I made with it, I have made quite a few since. I am in STEEP county here at 7,500' my only gripe is the transmission pops out of first when climbing the steep hills with a load, even without a load if its steep enough. I have one ordered from Harold's in Maine, just waiting on it to be rebuilt and arrive. The machine just screams, by far my favorite piece of equipment to operate, I used up 3 dinosaurs changing every bit of fluid in the machine, I have a list of things I have done to it, and I added some 5/8 ice chains. Thanks for watching.
