Great video! I have some input if ya want it. Always work from furthest to closest trees, so know the furthest one down and limb it, if you have to drop a tree the limbed tree then choke it and pull it just past the next tree you are going to drop, takes a bit of time but youll save time trying to mess with a bunch of branches and trees stuck together. Also, those branches and tops should be left in the bush for forest regen - basically time release fertilizer and they break down. Not sure of your cable size but I use 7/16's 160 feet , nice and light and strong enough for 36 inch pine trees - easy to drag and nice and long, that way you can butt your tire up to a tree and if it pops out of gear or the brake fail you wont get crushed....I have no brakes on mine so everything is done from the top of a hill. Hope some of that helps ya! Keep them coming and stay safe...everything in the bush is trying to kill you.

Thank you for the input, longer cable is definately at the top of my needed list, with this not being a money making machine, aside from some misc. Firewood here and there, i have to go slower on expenses, chains and fluids thus far are bleeding me dry. The previous video I did, I was backing up to trees in case the brakes gave way so I definately appreaciate the input, the cable just wasn't long enough on this one based on where the trees fell, I definately will take that one more seriously though, and try to expedite the cable expense. I have a neighbor with a masticator on a case menoitar (the steel tracked skid steer)
I will be paying soon to go through and masticate all of the smalls, suppose I could leave him some brush piles as well, he isn't cheap so I'm trying to get done what makes sense with the larger firewood trees before I turn him loose. This is all for mitigation work and the state won't allow brush piles etc. When they come through for inspection next year if they don't sign off I get kicked out of the program which saves about 5k in taxes every year so I have to play by their rules. Thanks for the input! I watched all of yours before I bought the skidder!

they dont like bush piles - that's insane, must be a fire thing? Americans seem to be very regulated in many areas now - pretty sad. The bush needs that stuff for regen...

When I was 13 I used to go with my dad helping his friend do firewood in the early 80's. I remember he had a C5 with a 353 and it would often kick out of 1st gear until he rebuilt the trans. I wish I had a picture of that thing. Funny how I remember stuff like that.

Glad to kick up an old memory, this one has a new process transmission so not original, the guy I bought it from warned me about that if it is pulling hard it could pop out. This was the first time it went backwards about 4'.... felt like a mile.

You guys that work on the side of hills are a different breed. I have a small hill on my property and it kicks my butt. You look like you're getting the hang of that skidder. The camera angle was fantastic. It really showed how steep your hill is. What elevation are you at? Very nice video.

Thanks, you would be amazed how often I have to pause as I'm recording because it sounds like I'm labor breathing....lol the air is thin up here. I am at 7,500' we are fairly isolated this time of year, we are the last house connected to the grid on the road we live on and the county gates the road past us in the winter, summer is a different story for sure. Thanks for watching!

@kingtut8381 I never seem to run short on power pulling fur or pine (all that's here) although it does have a tendency to pop out of 1st gear when underload going up steep hills. Waiting on a new transmission (rebuilt) to arrive to swap it out. Have lots of videos of the skidder pulling here in the mountains. At 7,500'.
