How do you weigh the clothes and charge the correct amount on pickup?
Does curbside help with advertising which to me is about 95 percent of the whole game.
We offer help with Google Adwords to folks who are using websites made by Curbside. That helps us streamline it so we can offer pay per click advertising at a reduced cost. That being said, your best source of new customers is organic search results. That way your customer acquisition costs go DOWN the more people who click on the link and you never run out of advertising budget. Most of our new customers at Super Suds is from organic, but we still get a lot of new customers from Paid advertising too.
Here in Upstate NY the minimum wage is terrible its 15$ an hour heading to 20$ an hour
We are in California and are dealing with the same thing. We do have different 'levers' to increase margins to help compensate. For example, you can charge a per trip charge on each pickup and delivery. Also, you can increase the order minimum, which is very helpful to increase profitability. I have seen some crazy low order minimums and those businesses are only able to stay afloat because they are making money on their larger orders. So why offer a money loser in the first place? Our order minimum on pickup and deliveries is $45. We had a chiropracter balk at this, because he only gives us a few towels each week and got charged $45. He cancelled service with our laundromat and then came back. But it's not worth making the trip, unless you are making a certain dollar amount per pickup. There are other techniques too, such as increasing route density and offering upcharges for different options.
When is it time to buy the pickup and delivery van.
It depends for each owner. Personal choice. Some get it before they need it, some go as long as they can without it. We operated out of a yellow diesel Isuzu Trooper for the longest time (license plate frame said 0 to 60 in 45 minutes), now we have a fleet of Super Suds Vans

Which Fluff and Fold bags do you use from Sudsy? Is it the regular Cleaner bags or specific Fluff and Fold bags? a link would be super helpful

Cents' purchase of Laundroworks has me uneasy. I have time before I cross those bridges.
Laundroworks is a good system. We went with CCI's Flex RF system. Works similar to Laundroworks, but has a real nice color display.

Unfortunately, our software only works in the Continental United States at this time. We keep thinking about expanding beyond the US, but there are always other revenue generating features that we are focused on.
What laundry detergent do you ou recommend someone offer starting out in this biz? Commercial or what we can find at any retailer?

I'm torn about Laundroworks' new owners. I thought I'd found the best partners possible with Curbside Laundries and Laundroworks, then Laundroworks sold out.... I don't know if I will trust my data nor do I foresee combined dashboards soon for laundromat owners and operators. WTF. What do we do now?
Laundroworks is a good system, very reliable and I like the centralized kiosk/paystation. At our laundromat, we went with CCI's new Flex RF system. It has the benefit of the centralized payment system, distributes the loyalty cards, and lets customers tap to pay at each machine. Our revenue went up significantly after we switched to the Flex RF system. In my opinion, CCI's solution has THE best color displays, which gives your washers and dryers an upgraded customer experience vs a 'dot matrix' display. Curbside is currently developing API integration with Laundry Boss's payment system and we are in talks with CCI to expand our current integration in order to connect the attendant's machine spend to each individual order. That will help reduce fraud.
Does the software work with KG's as we use Metric here, not Imperial.
Right now Curbside Software only works in the Continental US

Recommend buying an existing laundry route for your laundromat?
Yes, if done right. Lots of things to consider. #1 Make sure they haven't sold that route to someone else. #2 Is the route fragmented (safer, then if it is a few primary customers and if those customers leave, then you lost a big part of the value). #3 What does the introduction between you, the seller and the customers look like. That needs to be well thought out and SEAMLESS. Are you buying the brand too? Or just the customer list? What are the terms? Paying a lump sum or some now and some later? How many of those route customers are recurring? What is their rate of acquisition? Will you gain the lead source? Do you have a plan to get new customers in that area? This is complicated and there is no yes and no answer, but if done right and at the right price, it can be an opportunity.

Return on Advertising Spend Reports will undoubtedly be part of Curbside's upcoming Laundry Conference -- at least I hope so!
I have a whole presentation ABOUT the sales funnel, which includes the Return on Advertising Spend Report and the take aways from studying the data. In addition, Rachel from Marathon Consulting talks about adwords and how she uses the ROAS report to double down on what is working and stop spending on ads that aren't as effective. An interesting take away from Rachel's dry run, was you not only have to measure the conversion rate of ads (do they turn into customers), but also each lead source has their own VALUE (how much they spend over time). Some campaigns get a lot of ONE TIME customers and others attract more repeate business. These are things that were impossible to track before the ROAS report, which is only available in the Curbside Laundries software.

Whats your charge for pick-up and delivery? Also what was that big blue bin full of linens for? Commercial account. Is that bin provided by you? I'd be interested to hear more
We charge $2.09 per pound at our laundromat Super Suds. Fresn and Clean is $1.95 per pound. I didn't see the photos until after the interview, so I'm not whose blue bin that is. But that is a nice lift gate he has going into the van! You have to be careful with ramps, because it can be a lot of weight going down.

We thought what goes up, must come down. So as things returned to normal, wouldn't laundry pickup and delivery go down as people go out and about? Turns out, the demand for laundry pickup and delivery continued to grow....not at 100% levels like in 2020; however, the fact that it continued to go up and not return to pre-2020 demand shows that people like this type of service. I still believe awareness for laundry pickup and delivery is LOW, meaning there is a large untapped potential still at large. Because if they don't know about it, they can't order it. So the more awareness for this type of service, the more money all of us will make providing the service to others. -Laundry "Matt"

We are currently at $2.09 and we take 10 cents off for our recurring pickup and delivery customers. You can also increase your order minimum to make more money and charge a delivery fee too.

That is SO true! The rule of thumb is it costs 5 TIMES as much money to get a new customer as it does to get an existing customer to come back. Especially in a retention business, your existing customer IS the most important customer
