    I honestly believe you have a better handle on solar than any of the preppers in my friend group. Are you looking into Star Link? We've given it a look, I was surprised to see that is is country dependent. Meaning I'd need to buy a US version and a Mexico version(the whole set up). I'm also not far from Canada so if I ever went there, I may need even another. I think there is some border town overlap and some limited capability between countries....but for the best it's country dependent. I look forward to more of the solar content Luis.

    • @MosaicHomestead
      @MosaicHomestead День тому

      @OldSchoolPrepper I'm looking into the RV starlink that is portable, not sure if it's country dependent, I'm only putting up solar content of applications that are not the norm, applications preppers are not talking about but would work for long term and would be small enough to realistically protect from EMP, this unit can be connected to a tool battery in a emergency, the variable voltage from 18v all the way up to 58v makes this unit a realistic prepper last ditch option it will accept any DC power source from solar to battery within the variable voltage ⚡️

      @MosaicHomestead I know you have mentioned it before; what are your panels rated at? My guess is 200 watts. I see you chose a 400 watt transformer. That is a good fit for that application. Because I use HAM radios, I buy sine wave everything and that gets expensive. I am glad you are not pushing that for this application

    • @MosaicHomestead
      @MosaicHomestead 2 дні тому

      @NormalPrepping the panel recommended is a 380w solar panel, this unit will also work with a 400w solar panel, this unit will work perfectly to power a HAM radio, you can run a HAM with 12v depending on what you have or with 110 AC...What problem do you see.

    • @MosaicHomestead
      @MosaicHomestead 2 дні тому

      @NormalPrepping You are aware this would run a starlink?...that has more advanced and more sensitive electronics, that's why 2.0 has a pure sine inverter, buck transformer 12v is normal 12v DC, solar panel is DC, buck transformer is just reducing 44.5v to 12v...I'm kinda good at this lol, I'll power your HAM and use it without a license during a apocalypse lol, in a real SHTF rules will be broken, I bend rules right now putting this type of information up, what I put up works, so if I say it will power a HAM...It will power a HAM.

    • @MosaicHomestead
      @MosaicHomestead 2 дні тому

      @NormalPrepping By the way, I love a challenge, make your statement public as a challenge to me on a video...I will get a HAM operator with at leat 10 years experience to supervise the power up of the HAM and use the HAM...let's make a wager, this would be fun lol

      @MosaicHomestead 3 дні тому

      @LibertyGarden I haven't seen the star link power specs, but I'm definitely sure I could run it with this 2.0 version, what makes this a way better system is the variable voltage from 18v to 58v step down to 12v, this makes this unit compatible with anything producing 18 to 58v, this includes, solar panels, batteries or anything else producing this variable voltage ⚡️

      @LibertyGarden I can change a tool battery and run system off the battery at night 🌙...the 12v outlet on the system could run a 12v lamp and 12v fan, a tool battery stores a lot of power, again the variable power to 12v makes this possible, I could find creative ways to use this, this includes running a 12v Ice maker I'm ordering, it makes ice with low power, it's a game charger if it's the only thing you have.

    • @PraxisPrepper
      @PraxisPrepper 3 дні тому

      @MosaicHomestead I presume the only issue with this sort of approach would be the power spitting out of the inverter occasionally cutting out if sun goes away temporarily and some devices might not like being cut off. What are your thoughts on that? Also, I've never run an inverter from anything but the voltage range of batteries (which usually isn't that broad). The voltage range out of panels (especially when many are wired together) can be a bit wider. Did you have any thoughts on that going into your inverter? I've only seen the first half of the video so far, so if you address any of that in the second half, I'll be catching it later when I have time to finish the video. Thx for sharing!

    Clever idea to have the chickens eat the worms and insects in the compost! Have you considered that you might be able to build a solar oven to use to "sterilize" the soil to kill the insects, etc., in it to make it more like a seed starting/potting soil mix?

    • @MosaicHomestead
      @MosaicHomestead 13 днів тому

      @marygallagher3428 I was planning on getting a roof torch to torch soil after the chickens ate the bugs, but that video is coming next year, I'm going to put up all experiments and results through updates. Few to Nobody has videos on how they would grow food in after a nuclear war, Everyone is using store bought potting soil to start seedlings 🌱, this includes buying ingredients to make potting soil, I already tested my compost successfully for air layering, I got a mature lemon tree that will produce faster. The raised bed was fixed with the chicken screening, all plants are thriving so far.

    • @MosaicHomestead
      @MosaicHomestead 11 днів тому

      @marygallagher3428 the torch is kept above soil, it will act like putting soil in oven, it won't be done for long because soil will be ran through chickens first, then a quick above soil heat, hot compost could get hot enough to catch on fire 🔥, but very rare, compost pile could reach over 170 F, I want to go about 150 max just to kill seeds inside compost.

    I cannot grow lettuce to save my life so I'm no help to you my friend. For those reading and saying Sow Bugs (that's what we call them in Oregon or Potato Bugs) and Earth Worm's don't eat live plant....OH THEY WILL if they don't have access to enough decaying material or there are too many of them, they will eat the roots. Where I live we have more issues with snails and slugs, i found out it was snails/slugs because I snuck out at night and checked out my garden just like Luis is doing this day. Luis is doing the investigative work NOW so he thrives later. I think having the birds go thru it is a very interesting idea and I'm going to keep that info handy for the future, it's so good for the birds. I can live more in balance with the worms/bugs because I have a lot more decomposing material and more space than Luis does in this particular bed. Gardening problems are magnified ten fold when you have a contained area like Luis does which is why his problem solving is so important to know about.

    • @MosaicHomestead
      @MosaicHomestead 14 днів тому

      @OldSchoolPrepper that's exactly it, it's old compost, decaying matter is running out, so Earthworms go into overdrive procreating, this is how a worm 🪱 bin works, when worm population is down, you stop feeding until the numbers come up, I didn't have a raised bed, I had a worm bin with a growing population looking for food. The raised bed so far has no problems, the lettuce and tomato plants are still there, I snuck in the few seeds that sprouted in the viability test of the carrot, I want to see what does well in this area.

They should be about 20 feet (4 metres) from the house. Why? Mice. The beds could be twice as wide if you get access to all four sides. Metal posts on all sides and a frame over the boxes. Use wood or metal to cover from rain or storm events. No need to harvest or squash the crops. Given the time and care on the rest of the boxes that might be a retro for you later on? The locked area is interesting. Indeed going over would happen if people go hungry. Grow from seeds Luis. Grow from seeds. Buying plants is cheating 🙂

      @MosaicHomestead Місяць тому

      @HuplesCat the agronomy teacher in the beginning of the video has grown everything in this type of raised bed, including vegetables that don't grow here, what attracted me to these raised beds is the small amount of soil needed to produce a lot of food, this type of raised bed might actually work for growing food after nuclear war, you can't store soil, but you might be able to store fertilizer and cover up a compost bin made out of steel reinforced block and concrete, the raised bed is movable exactly like you said, and built like a tank for durability and years of use, the roof top garden will be extracting water from the concrete cistern that is protected from everything...I'm not saying this would work, I'm saying it's a last ditch option, yeah, I have been thinking about how food would be grown, Luis Reynaldo Santiago has grown calorie dense root vegetables In these benches, The channel is called Compostapr, not sure if captioning would work, these videos are a couple years old...but what this guy grows in these beds is impressive.

    the passion fruit is doing great. I love the idea of using the gray water. excellent use of a great resource. Glad you've extended out your fertilization. Be aware that some people will tell you to stop fertilizing once fruit forms on the plant (because of the nitrogen) but I keep fertilizing the whole time it's producing even when I'm picking fruit. Since you are adding in the manure then you are getting the Phosphorus and Potassium too. If you think it needs more add a couple of tablespoons of wood ash (from your campfire). That makes a complete NPK fertilizer.
