Join me on my journey in building my stock 3800 Series III engine in my 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix GT from a bone stock Supercharged 3800 to a twin charged monster! Do you have your stock rockers?
Not anymore. Those got thrown out a while back. I have my 90# springs and all but one of my 1.9 rockers tho

I got a unrelated question.. i broke rear exhaust manifold bolt where the cross over attaches to the manifold. Is that a bolt thats similar to the throttle body bolt in the way it works?
I had the same issue. U can got to home Depot and buy a grade 5 bolt that fits! Or, u can buy them here zzperformance.com/collections/3800/products/exhaust-manifold-studs?_pos=12&_fid=f6313f401&_ss=c
@@The3800Daily cool.. thanks, currently trying to get one out that I broke, can I put vise grips on the backside and grip the bolt and remove it from the back? Also is there a donut on the front manifold/crossover side? I don't see one
@MasterMind-zw3zl there's only one donut and it is between the rear manifold and the crossover. When it comes to removing it, I'd recommend u take the head off to be able to see what you are doing and use and extraction bit. The last thing you want is to damage the threads inside the head.
@@The3800Daily if I damage the threads on the manifold side can I just put threw my own bolt that's long enough to go through and tighten my own new nut down? I had smoke coming from the front exhaust/ crossover side. Kinda looked like it was coming from under the heat shield but I took off the crossover and removed the heat shield and couldn't find any definitive hole, so I'm guessing the smoke was coming from where the manifold and crossover connect, but if no donut then what is sealing it?
@MasterMind-zw3zl if u damage the threads you can bring the head to a machine shop to have a new hole tapped. Still more expensive then need be. If you don't have the manifolds tightened down properly you will have an exhaust leak which can be noisy and will burn up your gasket at the point of the leak making it worse over time. Since there's no donut on the front side, it's just pressure between the two sides making a seal. As the metal gets hot, and it gets hot quick, it expands making an even tighter seal. If u removed your front manifold and reinstalled it, the smoke u may be seeing is probably oil from your skin or any other liquid that got on it burning off. It's very common to smoke alittle. Especially with a brand new gasket and most especially if you have the power logs

I have one that shows you how to change the oil but not a rebuild. That is a good video idea though
@ by chance, do you know which video? I was getting ready to paint mine yesterday and I started to smell doung(aka the gear oil smell) and saw that my supercharger was leaking from the pulley

I'm not 100% sure on that. These bolt straight up to my Grand Prix. I would assume as long as you have the same strut towers and equipment you shouldn't have a problem. I would pull up some pictures of Grand Prix suspension and caliber setup and see if you can notice any differences. Unless somebody here has an Impala and has done it, they could tell you otherwise.
How has this held up?
Pretty good so far. I'm looking at it as I type this. Ofcourse, it's not as vibrant as day one. But it still looks good!

Nope! None at all! I use 303 Protection and clean spray. Never seemed to affect it

FYI, to my 3800 people, grab the bonneville, lesabre... oil pan to eliminate that drain plug issue fits with the 80e swap.

I had it custom made. I'm not sure the the fabricator would be up for making a duplicate lol it was a pain.

Nope! The EGR, Exhaust Gas Recirculater, is an emissions device and recirculates finely metered quantities of exhaust gas to the engine intake system for increased engine efficiency, reduced fuel consumption and lower NOx emissions. If you are modifing your engine, this typically does more harm then good.
That exhaust is a real work of art ,I really like that intercooler too really nice touch . just imagine if GM made them like this to begin with .
Man there is so much work around needed. I'm struggling to find a shop to make a custom shifter cable
The one thing I dont like about the GM3800 is if the water pump starts to leak it fills y our oil pan with coolant . GM didnt have to design it like that . Besides that they are excellent engines one of my favorite
What a great engine the 3800 is and to think GM canned it, how typical of GM . I think it would of been best to lower the engine with the cradle but its neat to see it taken out from the top
I really appreciate all the info on these amazing engines. It sure is typical though for chevy to put the shitty northstar engine with the strong 4t80e tranny and the good 3.8l and 5.3 ls engines with the shitty 4t65e tranny .

What yrs of 4t80s can I get? What you look for and this and that
90-99 year models allow for manual shift. 99+ are strictly automatic unless tuned otherwise. This is what I have been told. Again, I'm not a transmission guy so it's not an expertise of mine

@thomascline5300 if your doing it for a daily, I don't think the 80e is for you. It's A LOT of work to get working right. Especially if you're turboed. A built 65e isn't a bad option. I just didn't want to be traditional

I have the Brembo Xtra Discs and Pads on my Octavia 3 Rs 230 Perfomance with Stage 1 300HP. After heating the pads they work better and the stopping power is amazing. Just drove last weekend on some twisties with a group of friends and it was amazing.
Good to see you back was curious how the turbo conversion was going. I think a lot of people don't have a clue the amount of $$$ and work involved in such a project. Looks like your doing it right and anxious to see the finished product!!

So, sadly, after looking through some Facebook group posts, it looks like Brandon (LS4 King) has done this to quite a lot of customers. Especially with the "larger" parts that require custom fabrication like the oil pans, sub frames, etc. Biggest fiasco I heard was the "downpipe" situation but I don't personally know much about it. Definitely a massive shame due to the lack of support the w-body platform has.
