The sweet science, the home of boxing education ,is here to give you great advice , tips, how to/ tutorials. If your beginning your journey or if your advanced and been training for years there’s something for you. Our goal is to give great advice delivered in an easy to understand step by step process
Control your OPPONENT with these 8 LEAD hand tactics
Hey team in todays video we’re looking at 8 lead hand tactics you can use to control your opponent and take your boxing to the next level.
All of the tactics demonstrated in the video use proper jab mechanics so as long as you can do that then you can use all these boxing tips and tricks today.
In my opinion your lead hand should never be doing nothing, turn your least dominant hand into a force to be heard.
Your jab should be, obviously jabbing, setting up other punches and being used reactively for blocking but it should also be
Measuring- gauging range
Blinding - disrupting opponents vision
Lane controlling - defensive traffic
Trapping - taking away a hand
Pushing - posting/ off balancing
Prying - opening the guard
Pulling- as above
Feinting - drawing out reactions
There’s a reason why they say the jab is the number one punch in boxing
So not only do I explain how and why I’m this video but also how to train them on your heavy bag, make these 8 strategies part of every heavy bag session you do, and shadow boxing because if you only try to practice them in sparring chances are you will forget.

@coachcraiguk been training 2 years and never realised you had more range on the cross 🫣 will be putting that measuring trick into practice for sure!
@themusicalsandwich3063 it’s a little known fact really my friend but yes if you rotate properly you will hit with the cross , obviously if your to far away it will make you lean forward and over extend but yes if my jab is just missing il find a home for my cross 👍🥊
How to avoid getting an overhand or similar over the top while measuring?
That does happen yes but knowing that can happen be ready for it, pop back on your feet and back in for the counter , make sure that chin is tucked behind your shoulder while measuring as well, just in case you don’t see it coming 👍🥊
Is the “under the heart” punch a solar plexus blow? Also, is striking the sternum the best way to land a blow to the heart? Thanks!
The famous heart punch , no they are to separate punches my friend for a solar plexus shot I aim centre line just under the rib cage and the “ under the heart “ shot is what’s referred to when that punch is slightly off centre 👍🥊
@@coachcraiguk Thanks very much your reply.
@williamdavis7629 your very welcome my friend 👍🥊

Exactly that my friend thanks for watching and commenting and being a valued member of the sweet science community 👍🥊
Great vedlo thanks wiil use what you showed your great boxing coach
@seamusnaughton8217 really appreciate you kind comment my friend and I hope the content helps 👍🥊
Bloody damn good video coach. Loving the emphasis on hit and I move and taming the ego i.e. blindly just hitting the bag like Rocky. Secondly the cone idea for range is something I'm going to implement. Thank you again for some great content and effective teaching methods. 🤛
Your very welcome brother definitely ego punching a bag is one of the biggest beginner mistakes I see and that’s where people pick up bad habits and bad form that they then have trouble correcting my friend 👍🥊
Thanks for the drills, always looking at improving my footwork. If I can beat someone outside it's a huge win.
Your very welcome brother I hope it helps 👍🥊
Coach when should i do 1-2 with recovery step as opposed to pendulum style explode in, 1-2, explode out. Would it be dependent on opponent getting out of range as soon as you initiate any offense?
Hey brother so the pendulum step I tend to use if some one is trying to counter my jab , ie I throw a jab they try to counter so I use the pendulum to exit to make them miss and immediately follow up with a 1-2, it’s actually used a lot by the GB Olympic team , if that makes sense 👍🥊
@ makes perfect sense thank you coach. Love this channel
@effelucrew your very welcome brother and I’m glad you love the channel and thank you for being a valued member of the sweet science community 👍🥊
Thanks Doc! Much respect from Philly,USA🥊🥊🥊
Your very welcome brother and thanks for being part of the sweet science community 👍🥊
Mah Alo Sir! 🫡
Thank you for the comment my friend hope you found it helpful 👍🥊
Thanks for that Video coach 👍
Your very welcome brother 👍🥊
Actually a great idea on doing something that's realistic, sometimes we have to agree there are footwork traps I'll call it that way, that are not realistic, and you don't have the time for them, for example people are doing side step through another step that destroys the idea of side step at all, and they try to idealise it like they're robots, and it's not really realistic, this video is literally for everyone out there who wants to learn something
My friend I completely agree with you on that and this drill is simple but really effective and as an added bonus it simulates fight footwork to , I used to use it a lot back in the day , thanks for your comment and being part of the sweet science community 👍🥊
This is a very good idea
It’s one I still use to this day but then I enjoy doing footwork , I saw the benefits of having good footwork years ago so now I encourage everyone to work on it 👍🥊
These are great techniques. I've saved this video & subscribed 😊👍
Hey my friend thank you for you comment and thank you for subscribing welcome to the sweet science community 👍🥊
@coachcraiguk Thank you my friend. Footwork is very important, I'm a big fan of Usyk, Bruce Lee & even parkour... & you're correct about the role of footwork here. A great video & I'll be practicing this. Thank you once again & good luck with the channel 😊👍
@doriangray5750 I know a lot of people don’t like to practice footwork I was always the other way though I practiced it all the time, most people don’t think it’s important until it’s to late and they have already picked up really bad habits , appreciate your support brother 👍🥊
Another great basics video! Subscribed

Good luck selling fundamentals. I loved learning the basics when I was a kid, of course social media didn’t exist but I don’t understand why people refuse to learn and then master the basics. Good video 🥊
Hey brother , appreciate your comment and appreciate you taking the time to watch my video , I completely agree with you my friend 👍🥊

Nice Video, will definetly Work these Combos this Weekend. Happy Halloween Coach 😁
They are awesome combos to work on , simple and effective , thanks for your comment my friend and happy Halloween to you to 👍🥊
Greeks and Romans had Boxing in the ancient Olympics, along with Wrestling. But it was closer to MMA, I believe, though not certain regarding the latter point.... Other than that, I believe that Boxing and Wrestling became much more refined as, along with Catch Wrestling, they constitute the English, Irish and Scottish unarmed martial systems, or "What you do when you drop your Shillelagh..." As far as I know, or believe, anyway.
Absolutely correct my friend the Greeks and Romans did just that , history tells us they also done it Butt naked to haha can you imagine wrestling or boxing someone naked 😂👍🥊
After watching each of your videos, I think, "this one is the best". Well, this one IS the best. The basics are too easy to ignore when something bright and shiny gets our attention. Thanks for the great reminder of what is really important and where we should be putting our time and focus.
Hey brother really appreciate your comment I completely agree , I’m always on at my guys at the gym , particularly the young guns and particularly in sparring , in fact last night I had them drilling basic, tight defence over and over instead of anything flashy , when it came to free sparring one lad went back to his default “flashy” style but couldn’t understand why he was getting lit up , boxing is already complicated enough without making it more complicated, basics just work, appreciate you being here and an active member of the sweet science community my friend 👍🥊
Great Video thank you! Move your Hands, Move your Head, Move your Feet
Thank you my friend, that little rule of three, move your hands, move your head, move your feet has served me well over the years 👍🥊
it's a pleasure to know you coach 🥊 🧢 cool videos 👍
Pleasure to know you to brother and thanks for being an active member of the sweet science community 👍🥊
I'm going to focus the body shot with rotation coz otherwise it ends up like a karate punch
Absolutely brother just think level change then drive for the back hand you will get so much more power on it definitely 👍🥊
Bedankt
Thank you so much I really really appreciate your support as it makes the work I do feel appreciated and anything helps support the channel , really appreciate you, your kind support and being part of the sweet science community 👍🥊
Very good.
Appreciate your comment my friend and thanks for watching 👍🥊
Brilliant stuff as always...cheers mate 👊
Your very welcome brother and thanks for watching and commenting 👍🥊
Did you say “Go step”? Is you Go Step the same as Barry Robinson’s?
If I did then it was by accident my friend but my go step would be the first step of the combination if that makes sense ….. wait I know what you mean… ghost step , that’s what I said, and that’s when as an orthodox trying punch same hand same foot moving to the right , so the right foot has to move first and no punch happens the first punch comes on the second step so as the left foot moves the left hand strikes, so the ghost step is beginning footwork in a combination before the combination actually starts if that makes sense 👍🥊
@@coachcraiguk- ah! Thanks for the reply.
Actually I did mean “Go Step” which is a method of movement that replaces the L-Step. One of the problems with boxing is there is no set of universal linguistics. I love your reply which answered the question to my satisfaction.
Your very welcome as always my friend 👍🥊
