I first heard GW from Constricting Rage and I loved how fun the guitar riffs were. I ordered their latest album and wow, it is one of my favorite albums to listen to. Endless fun so I'm excited that you have one ranked above that. Def gonna have to buy that one too. Angels Hung just has the perfect mix to me. Drums, guitar, vox, everything is perfect.

You mentioned "newer bands influenced by Morbid Angel " what newer bands are they? I haven't listened to much newer death metal in few years really because to me a lot of the newer bands I've tried to listen to just sound kinda generic and rehashed over polished crap.

Counterparts is by far one of my all time favorite bands. They don’t have a “bad” record in their discography, but simply albums that I like more than others. Hell and Home being my favorite, quickly followed by You’re Not You Anymore. But all of their records are insanely good.

Ok fine I’ll be that guy. I like Illud. I prefer it over Kingdoms Disdained even. Illud is basically the death metal equivalent to The Room. I also unironically enjoy the song 10 More Dead. Great video on a great band. A few things though. Megiddo - The Devil and the Whore is a great companion to Unchain The Wolves. No mention of the drum sound on Phoenix Rising? Defiance on CD is too compressed with low guitars, but get a vinyl version as the mix is an improvement. Even the Pic LP sounds a lot better. Definitely worth buying another copy of.

Voices and hiss is more experimental, they cant just keep doing the same stuff, so they have to keep the grindcore soul with a bit of experimental riffs

When you said "dreaming in red" is overrated i cried. Its one of the best in death metal for me. But i kinda agree with your list anyway.

my favourite thing abouts dismember's music is that they were able to incorporate melody in some of their songs without going full into melodic death metal while some others are straight death metal i think kärki's vocals are on point on almost every album and he has a really distinctive style if they are not going to release new music i would love to love some re-recordings of old songs just as Sodom did with the 40 years record

I tend to observe advanced Death Metal musicians ranking Formulas/Gateways/Heretic higher than Altars/Blessed/Covenant.

Nice list man, for me I would flip best with great because as good as Altars and Blessed are, Covenant and Formulas are just next level. I would also put Gateways in great, I find it to be a very underrated album but love the atmosphere. I think you hit the nail on the production on Heretic, but it's actually so bad that it masks the fact that some of the songs are actually good. Heretic songs performed live are pretty enjoyable for me. Overall not a good album though, I totally agree. In case you're interested, there's a show from after Formulas was released where they play all the songs faster than the album versions with amazing sound engineering and it is fucking heavy.
