up until you showed Seifer, I was convinced it's because they all use "drawn" magic, that's why here is a circle and the blue lights. And the enemies don't have a circle, because their magic is not "drawn" or "junctioned". But Seifer must have magic drawn and junctioned. So WHY does he have blue and green lights? He must be the key to all of this. And, with the theory of Rinoa being the being attached to the very last boss, it makes sense that the sorceress in the end doesn't use the blue lights also, as Rinoa is junctioned to her.

fantastic! i do enjoy your thesis. a little note: geography and geology are completely different disciplines. what was written initially was geography. so it makes sense when the garden teacher used term "geography class" as it mainly study about planet's surface (spatial feature) hence mentioning locations like deep sea, centra, tear's point etc. while geology is a science about planetary physical attribute (material), this is where moon stones research fit in.

Idk how i ended up on this channel but i like your profile pic xenogears is my favorite rpg i got it for christmas the year it came out. I played so many rpgs after but none compare. Saga frontier for ps1 is a close second.

It was also my first Final Fantasy, and I once loved a woman like Rinoa. It's a kind of passion for me to realize what happened truly. I wish destiny could fix death and loneliness.

One line from the game debunked this theory. I can’t remember if it was Laguna or doctor odine but they said ultimecia lives so far in the future that none of them can technically exist including rinoa

This is further strong supporting evidence imo. It does seem clear the R=U. The man who worked on the game was really careless to make comment on the subtext of the story when it's clear he just didn't know.

Despite being a MMORPG, its a real Final Fantasy, with a lot of content, allusions to all the other FFs, and a very impressive story, which you might like and allow you to make even more content on this channel

Wonderful breakdown and perhaps the looping world theory might also explain how bizzarely mishmashed the world's civilization and technologies ended up being. Depending on how time compression works, the end result of undoing it might have put whole areas and people back in the wrong places..

Interpreting literature is like solving a puzzle for personal enjoyment. There’s no such thing as "the" correct interpretation, and authorial intent doesn’t change that. As long as interpretations avoid contradictions or misreading the story, multiple valid ones can coexist. I doubt Square intended R=U to be true, and if they did, they didn’t refine many details in the original work-which is fine. The value of R=U lies in how it enhances the story. Personally, I feel that it does so, despite any gaps.

The idea that Ultima Weapon is Hyne's empty shell (抜け殻) has flaws. The empty shell supposedly lacks Hyne's power and shouldn't be formidable, yet Ultima Weapon wields immense magical power. I see it differently: Hyne unjunctioned from a creature, leaving behind an empty shell with no magic. The creature's identity is irrelevant, as the myth implies. However, the "geology" connection remains unexplained. Hyne’s ability to hide in a human during danger suggests he had mastered junctioning before his defeat, supporting the idea that he had done it before. This eliminates the need for an extra mechanic (body splitting). His known ability to possess and leave living beings suffices to explain the myth.

Nerd time: odine, the weird professor you meet in esthar, designed a entire magic system for humans which is what the draw system in ff8 is. Monster enemies and sorceresses use inate magic. Thats why the casting is different.

3:28 I think it Seifer was under the control of Ultimecia, that's why it shows both color. I mean it was shown pretty clearly that she used some mindspell on him in disc 1.

They asked the director about this and while he said it wasn’t part of the script, he said one of the writers was famous for adding cryptic clues to plot twists and hidden secrets and that, while Rinoa officially isn’t Ultemecia, he could’ve secretly created his own story link without telling anyone.

As much as I absolutely love the Rinoa=Ultimecia theory, I could never bring myself to believe it. I wanted to, but I couldn't. It'd be awesome if it were true, though. However, I've always been open to the possibility that Ultimecia could be Squall and Rinoa's daughter or granddaughter. I know she lives generations in the future, but we don't know exactly how many generations, and I think the developers intentionally left that up to us to decide. As for Ultimecia's age, I don't think the developers even know that because it's irrelevant to the story, but she looks like she could be anywhere from 28 to 60. One thing I've picked up on was how Ultimecia talks - how all the Cs are replaced with Ks. My theory is that it might not just be her who talks like that. That might be how everybody talks in her time period. 100 years ago, people talked a lot differently than how we talk today, so 100 years from now, our descendants might be talking differently as well. That's my take on it anyway.

I just realized how much Kingdom Hearts takes from Final Fantasy 3 for themes of the 'Universe.' KH3 even introduced hope with dark light and nothingness.

Excellent approach of using final bosses to review theme. Now I can't decide which FF title I like the most... Dark souls, another Japanese game, depicts the theme of nothingness and survival interestingly too (nothing but gray trees until unexplained heat and cold starts) but with less use of outer space and more traditional fantasy instead (castles, knights, everlasting dragons).

ff8 has such deep lore its a shame S.E ignore the game and refuse to acknowledge its existence anymore

The paradox of Garland always made me appreciate him a lot as an absurdist figure in the series. It's often stated that the FC games had simple narratives, but the ending of FFI is as complex as a 1987 game gets!! You also see the Flying Fortress dungeon, which gives a futuristic contrast to the rest of the setting. FFII is my favourite of the FC trilogy, I love the narratives of existentialism and redemption of the Rebels, and characters like Leila and Leonheart. The Emperor and Hilda are magnificent Amano designs, and Firion is my favourite design for a FF protagonist ever. I'd never considered the atrophysical and cosmological aspect of the series, so the ideas, theories and thoughts exposed in the second half make me want to replay the whole series with this in mind. Although other RPG series resonate more deeply with me, it's very hard to argue that the Final Fantasy series isn't made by the most talented people in the videogame industry. Thank you for the wonderful video, and for the food for thought!!

Interesting how the influence is clear but the names themselves remain unique. Great artists steal, as they say.

If the red light that Ellone sends to the past is Hyne, then how did Rinoa keep her witch powers?.. or how she still becomes Ultimecia? I always thought the red light was supposed to be Adel, since red is the color of Adel, and because Adel had junctioned with Rinoa in the previous battle. We battle Adel with her and Rinoa fused as one. Ellone sending present Adel back to the past might explain why Adel knew about Ellone in the past. Her seeking Ellone is what leads to the creation of the junction machine. The other big mystery is that Squall was always looking for someone too.. but he was always looking for “sis”.

there are players expecting remake of this game but i´d rather they didn´t make it, since they are stuck in their pointless struggle for better graphics i´m positive they´d end up with another fiasco like ff7 remake.

I think I was too young when I played this to appreciate the storytelling. This video does a great job of putting it all together.
