Great to hear a new interpretation of the work, Lim offers some very striking and novel creative ideas here. He is certainly not a cookie-cutter pianist, but brings new ideas into his performances. We need this to keep these great central masterpieces alive and current.

Thank you so much. I love this orchestra. Lim caught my attention because he reminded me of my favorite pianist Weissenberg. I find his performance dedicated, sincere, honest, clean and thoughtful without unnecessary show offs, overly drawn out and overly sentimental phrasing or exaggeration of emotion. I find this work more beautiful than his previous performance as well.
Liebestraume encore 32:09: the melody is played, should I say, sung, better than any pianist ever, period, not even close. Yunchan even outdoes himself from previous Liebestraume encores. His dedication to his playing and unrelenting desire to improve perfection is what will make him known hundreds of years from now. 33:27 The LH anchors what he's played in the LH on previous passages and the magnificent damper for what comes next is astounding. 33:45 The musical passion is off the charts, especially at 34:07 through 34:38 until 35:07 when he takes such beautiful time to bring in the main theme one last time at 35:19 which Yunchan, again sings the melody so wonderfully through the end of the piece anchored again at 36:51. The audience ruined the once in a lifetime moment by clapping without letting the event sink in. Listen to the Oct. 1, 2023 Liebestraume, I do like the shaping at 33:58 better. On that recording, ua-cam.com/video/qGwUdiC4UeQ/v-deo.html it's at 33: 37. I'm so lucky to be alive to hear Yunchan play, I'll bet Liszt wishes he was so he could hear Yunchan!
Some audiences question his choice of the same piece for the encore, you are the only one so far who listen and comment the differences in detail, and compliment his devotion to pursue perfection. Have you listened to his live video recording of Liebestraume on his own yt channel released today? I hope you enjoy it too.
@@pebble.cloud18 Hi Poh, thank you for your comments! I think Yunchan likes to experiment with his artistry, thus the repeat of encores (which he brings a different approach perhaps until he's happy with it). I'll listen to the live recording soon.
Hope they make a live album with this performance.

The tonal beauty is just incomparable.
I think this performance has its own pacing that makes this more emotional,intimate,slow. It seemed YCL understand the conductor's intention so to make his tempo slow to match the orchestra, he had this stretching (stressing the notes) into more finer play emphasizing the edges. This piece is striking if you are in emotive or reminiscing the past. The Hungarian play of Schuman was more of a jovial atmosphere play so YC had the freedom to play the notes with merriment atmosphere. Both are wonderful and masterful playing.

I wonder at your belief it was the conductor who led the way to this tempo. My experience with Yunchan Lim is that he is willing to take a piece into more emotional territory than other performers might. I love this interpretation and am prepared to give Yunchan credit for taking it there.

Great fun but a tad too indulgent for me, especially in the 1st movement: excessive rubato and sudden bass accents make this performance inferior to his prior reading of the concerto not so long ago.
The encore though - Lim’s immaculate voicing just tugs on my heartstrings to no end.
to be honest, I liked the previous concert with the Budapest Orch better because of too much coughing on this one. Please, if you're sick, stay home.
And, if you need to cough, press the middle area under your throat, the slightly deep part, press it slightly hard enough to stop the coughing. I bring throat drops to concerts, but at the time I didn't have the time to get the drops from my bag so I pressed it like this and held it for a while, and the cough stopped.
i like the bass accents, adds some uniqueness which im looking for when i listen to yunchan. i also love the indulgence, though the orchestra and the piano did seem to go out of sync quite a few times which isnt good
@@user-wt8uv9jy1s I think it's a mix of both Lim's experimentation (one can even say his habit of trying to emphasize inner voices) and Chung's desire to give the soloist the reins - I think he gave Trifonov the same treatment in a Rach 3 concert a few years back. Nonetheless, the tempo isn't necessarily *the* problem here: Celibidache and Michelangeli had a similar tempo in their performance of the concerto, but it didn't feel as sappy or "wet" to me.
Maybe this is a one time thing, or maybe it's a phase on Lim's path to find a style that he can confidently call his own - I will be looking forward to his next performances either way.
