  • Exploring Nostalgia: 1980s Dixons Christmas Leaflet Featuring Harrier CB Radio
    As promised a few months back here is a look through a DIXONS Christmas leaflet from around 1983 along with a few of their own Harrier Branded CB Radio’s.
    Although i didn’t mention it in the video can you believe this is probably 40 years this month that I picked this leaflet up along with the Harvard 410T, also not forgetting my Harrington Jacket.
    Hope you enjoy this and Merry Christmas everyone.

    I used to collect & keep leaflets & catalogues but periodically have clear outs which I later regret. I also had a Toshiba RT120S radio cassette player, that I got for Christmas 1982. I chucked it out about 2 years ago…again later regretting it.

      I plan on parting with a lot next year but not before i share everything.
      I know i may regret it but i am in my 50’s now and think it’s time.

    I had the Saisho video recorder. They were made my Matsushita. Mine lasted 20 years. By 1984 they were 349 and the Santo Betamax was down to 249. The 20 inch Saisho TV was made by Panasonic in Wales. It was a model they didn't sell in the UK market but the Saisho labels kept falling off because they were stuck on top of the hole where the Panasonic badge was supposed to go. By 1984 most of the TVs were square shaped and the Spectrum ZX was the computer or the C64. Camera wise that OM30 had focus confirmation and was exclusive to Dixons. I used a Saisho car equaliser on my HF rig. Ran it mono. Left output into right input. It gave double the equalusation. I could tell you all sorts of stories about Dixons back in those days.

      Thanks Gordon, That is some really helpful information. Great idea using a Car EQ for the Rig, i am guessing this was a while back?

      @@gtretroworld Yes, late 80s. Before we had DSP.

      @gtretroworld  8 місяців тому

      @GordonHudson Modern DSP is so cool and so easy on the ears but my recently purchased TS850s has a RX audio that is so seductive. I’m tempted to try and find a DSP100 to go with it.

      The good old Betamax, actually better quality and a better form factor but JVC had the power at the time to push VHS. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for visiting the channel.

    I worked for Dixons in 84/85. We were still selling these. The 40 channel handhelds were popular with Skiers. They would buy 2 with the chargers and batteries.

    • @gtretroworld

      Excellent, I bet it was great fun. Do you have any idea why they sold Harvard as well as the Harrier variant?

    • @GordonHudson
      @GordonHudson 8 місяців тому +1

      @@gtretroworld I assume lack of stock. The Harrier brand was originally used for cheap air band radios that they sold from sales caravans at air shows. They made a lot of money selling binoculars and radios at air shows.

    Nice little trip down memory lane this one cheers Neil..
    You say dixons dissapeared but actually they haven’t and although the shops no longer exist on the high street tye company dixons retail is still very much alive and well..
    They trade under the name “know how” and they still oporate from the same distribution centre in Newark where they used to be years ago..
    Id assume they where bought out some years ago by the know how group but when we deliver plasma tv’s there the invoice paperwork always says dixons retail in the top corner..
    Know how is part of the currys pc world group of companies but the comapny dixons is still the invoice address for all deliveries..
    I remember the cbx as my sister had one in her bedroom and I had a cobra 21xfm in mine so it was horrendous if we where on at the same time..
