Grain Bin Home Build... Episode 32 "HVAC"
In this 32nd episode, we are installing the ductless mini split HVAC system for our Grain Bin Home build. We are installing a Mr. Cool 36K system, expandable to 4 heads. We are installing 3 heads for our build, a 9 K head in loft, 9 K head in bedroom addition, and a 12 K head for the main level. This is the perfect HVAC setup for this grain bin build application, as it won't require any duct work to be ran and is super efficient. Nice! I am considering doing this. What do you think about building the 1st floor about 3 feet up? This would give a crawlspace for plumbing, electric, etc and eliminate water issues at the base. Entrance would be a front porch at same level.

      @davidasimkosr4641 You can for sure use white TPO membrane roof.. Black epdm was less expensive.. it received a floating deck tile flooring over it anyway, so color wasn't an issue. Don't want to set furniture or walk on membrane roof directly or you will puncture it eventually.

    Hello. I've been wanting to live in a grain bin for a while. I've loved following your build. Could you give me a ball park figure what the approximate cost may be to complete one, not including the cost of the bin itself. I have no idea what the cost could be and I realize it would differ depending on what an individual would want. Also, I'm in Lafayette In., so I'm not far from you to get more info or tips if possible.

    • @debcarles9551
      @debcarles9551 Місяць тому

      Without being too personal do you have any idea of a ball park figure what labor would cost on a grain bin similar to yours. I could have access to a 20' in diameter which would need an addition like yours. Or I could have access to a 36' in diameter that would not need an addition. I just want to know if its something that would be financially possible for me. Also what thoughts might you have on digging and doing a foundation and having enough of the bin in the ground as a basement? Maybe a wild idea, but curious. Thank you.

      How much you will spend varies wildly. This was finished to very high level.. so you are looking at pricing similar to a new home. Fortunately the grain bin was existing.. didn't have cost of buying it, erecting it, or foundation for it. Did all the work myself other than drywall and concrete floors. Overall there is close to 1100 sf.. and at a price of about $80 to $85 a sf... again labor was free. If hiring it done, probably would have been double that

Then fit fiberglass batt to all other areas to save cost. If your budget allows you... spray foam the while thing.

    ◄ John 3 ► New King James Version Par ▾ The New Birth 1There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” 3Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born [a]again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” 5Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” 9Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?” 10Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? 11Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. 12If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man [b]who is in heaven. 14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15that whoever believes in Him should [c]not perish but have eternal life. 16For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”

    Planning phase for two grain bins. The first phase will be to make one into a storage area with a loft. Just starting my research. How easy/hard is the removal of the raised floor? Can the raised floor support a few ATV’s or S x S’s. Will have to frame in for a larger door and add a ramp. Thank you for documenting your build!

      Floor is strong... capable of handling weight of atvs.. not a tractor.. but definitely strong. As far as taking the raised floor out.. if in good shape you might find a farmer who needs floor and or auger and advertise it for free if they come remove it. Otherwise... take it out carefully to resell... or.. just hack it out and scrap the metal. Hack it out job.. probably have it all out in 2 to 3 days max with 2 or 3 people. It should have a solid concrete floor under it.. which is a great floor to work from... take your door opening down to it and pour a sloped entry apron to it for a overhead door or large door to finish to... no ramp needed then.

    Did you ever post the front porch build? I saw the sneak peek but can't find the actual front porch build video.
