Ocean Salmon Fishing - Westport, WA | NON-STOP ACTION!
Katie, Anthony, and I ventured out of Westport into the big blue of the Pacific looking for some Kings and Coho Salmon. WDFW had announced two days earlier that Marine Area 2 would close at the end of the day on Saturday the 24th. The ocean forecast was a good one for Thursday August 22nd, with a swell of 4’ at 11 seconds so we knew this would be our last chance for the season. The bar was a bit bumpy, but when we got offshore the wind waves were almost non-existent, making for a pretty smooth day on the water. WE HAD NON-STOP ACTION from the first drop. I have no idea how many takedowns we had, how many fish we hooked, or how many we released. I lost count pretty early on, and since I lost an hours worth of video off of one camera and another 2 hours off of another, my best guess is we touched 35-40 fish. Needless to say, I have edited the heck out of this video... even with the lost footage, there was just too much action to show. This was a bittersweet day out there for me, as I just couldn’t find the large Chinook. With all of the rain we had, it was obvious they moved and when making adjustments of depth contours I guessed incorrectly and went the wrong way (I received intel from a friend who found them… I went into the 240-250 range when I should have went back out to 300-320). I know I shouldn’t be disappointed, but this Westport fishery has spoiled me! 😃 We ended up the day with 4 nice hatchery coho, a barely legal 23” chinook, and Anthony caught a mackerel when I told him to try fishing at 15’ on the wire! 🤣 And by the way, Anthony cooked that fish for dinner on Thursday night and told me it was absolutely delicious! If you have read this far, thank you so much for your support in watching our videos. I know I come off as pretty intense and anal out there, but it comes from a place of true passion and love of getting us on the fish. Anyways, the Kings and ocean Coho are finally trickling into South Puget Sound, so expect to see some content from our home waters in Marine Area 11 over the next 6 weeks or so! Until next time… stay safe and thanks again for watching! 😃🤜💥🐟

Good fun! We fished BC and AK a number of times never using downriggers. Living in HI then, just didn't know how to use them. Used the slido and a ball and a whole lotta line out and caught laods of coho like that. Much of th time, not even a flasher. It works here in the sound too. Although we do have some dr now and they really help when the fish are deeper than 30 ft. Nice fishing! First saw you on the water at JH and you all brought in a king. We ended up with a dog fish close to ya.

Very nice, productive day on the water! So busy with the super short season they give us.

What bugs me is the huge expense invested into catching salmon, not to mention the limited seasons and fish limits, then once you get out there the fish cop harassment begins and STEALS the time you have to fish. I think if you get checked out there, THEY should compensate you for lost time and opportunity. Of course they totally ignore one of the MAIN culprits in salmon numbers declining.... a single seal can kill up to 100 fish EVERY DAY as they usually take one bite from the belly and move on. If they eliminated some of the seal population, I believe we would experience far more salmon numbers. Remember " Herschel " the sea lion who they LET murder salmon for years at the Ballard locks where all the salmon are confined in a kill zone?

Ha! Yes, I’m definitely old enough to remember Hershel! Yeah, I’m a rules follower so getting stopped like that by the WDFW isn’t that big of a deal, but you’re right, it’s a waste of time and somewhat awkward. I sped up that part of the video on purpose, as the whole interaction was a weird experience. They were obviously training a new officer, because dude had to quadruple check and then look at the other guy when he was having trouble identifying a coho vs a chinook. They accused us of not recording a fish immediately and starting to fish again… there was 3 of us on the boat, we had two rods out, and they approached us less than 2 minutes from when we caught that crazy surface biting coho. We didn’t get cited, but it was pretty obvious that they were watching us and approached us immediately after we caught a fish. They checked all of our gear, fish, kill bag, and all compartments… it was weird. Oh well, on to the next adventure! Thanks for watching and the conversation JC! 😃

@@nascarrich57 hi! We got it at this link: westcoastfishingtackle.ca/collections/fishing-weights-anchors/products/copy-of-hi-vis-heavy-duty-snubber I notice they are out of stock on the 60” combo. They also just have the snubbers by themselves to purchase. If you are local to the Tacoma area, Sportco has them too! 😃
