  • We had never fished for Surf Perch before so we thought we would go and give it a try. Lots and lots of bites on the incoming tide. We caught a couple of keepers and the fish tacos were great! Murph sure does love the beach! :)

What kind of gear are you using? Pole, line, weight and bait?

@@paoj86mc hi! We are no experts on this fishery as this was our first time… so perhaps our gear isn’t optimal… running a 12’2” Okuma Rockaway surf rod, Penn Fierce III 4000 spinning reel, 40lb braid mainline… and then I tied my own dropper rigs with inline loops out of 20lb mono for the leader. Using size 2 Gamakatsu Bait Holder hooks and 2” Berkeley Gulp! red and camo sand worms for bait. Tied a barrel swivel to the bottom of the leader and attached a duosnap to that; then was using 2-3oz pyramid weights snapped onto the leader with loops of 10lb mono in case I snagged the weight onto something. I think for future I would like to use disc shaped sinkers instead of the pyramids as the pyramid sinkers feel very bouncy on the bottom and it was a little bit difficult knowing the difference between the sinker bouncing and a bite. 🤣 Thanks for watching! 😃
