Does the scene change happen on press, or release, of the switch in this set up? I'm really hoping its on press, so that you can stamp on the switch on the beat, and have the gain kick in. If it changes on release of the switch, its always a fraction late, or you have to time it awkwardly just before the tone change... its a problem for me. Cheers!
Great job!
In one rig. Could you chose one amp for dirty sound in one spot and another one amp for clean sound in another spot, then 1 IR for both . And alternate between them using scenes? . so you would have a clean sound and dirty sound when the song ask you.
In short - Yes! You can even save a block if you want if I remember correctly by having one scene use one amp and then when you switch scenes you can switch that block to an entirely different amp.
Why doesn't this have more views?! This is great!
This is what I was looking for , and I didn't find another video Talking about this. Thanks so much. This is very a powerful function that no other pedalboard give to us , in the same price of course.
Great vid. I'm about to setup a rig for acoustic and am looking at scenes and how the expression pedal integrates with each scene. This pedal is brilliant! Highly recommended!
Hi, I tried this but unfortunately my MX5 is stuck in 'Update mode' - this has been the case since trying to update it to the latest firmware (which failed) Any suggestions?
that sounds awful! You've tried turning it off and then on again I'm sure. I suppose another thing you could try is plugging it into a PC via USB and try to force a firmware update again.
I got it to work! 1. Powered on the MX5 which automatically went into Firmware update mode 2. Unplugged the USB cable from the back of my mac and simply plugged it into another USB port and boom! It detected the MX5 and the updater went through to 100% and done 👍🏻 However I lost all my patches, set lists etc. Maybe because I had tried factory resets earlier?
@joshmarkraj so glad you figured it out and thanks for sharing!
Great video, love seeing these modelling pedals vs the real thing. My question is how did it feel real tube amp vs the sim?
@seandogg41 it's a great question and I think you know what the answer is. Of course these modelers have got to the point where it is really hard to tell the difference, but the feel is not there. It is arguably close, but you just can't roll the volume back and play lightly and get the same sounds from the modeler that you would get with the real thing.
The horrible hum that kept on appearing has totally put me off getting this effects processor. Will stick to my boss gt1b.
I sold mine shortly after posting my MX5 videos. I eventually landed on the Ampero II Stomp and I'm loving it. It's funny you mentioned hum and then said you switched to a Boss product. After I sold the MX5 I bought a Boss GT1000CORE. That Boss pedal was the worst piece of gear I ever owned. One of the reasons was it had introduced hum into everything and even with both Noise Suppresors on. I hope you're enjoying your Boss pedal though. Not sure if I got a lemon but I'll never buy a multi-effects Boss product again.
@priorwitness my GT-1B works flawlessly I have had it about 2 years and never had a problem.
Nice! I would just take that builder light fixture out and replace it with a color changing led pot light.. then this goes viral
@JD-kj4mj lol I appreciate it. Well I am in the middle of moving so hopefully I can figure out a way to work in your suggestion anyway 😀
@priorwitness Your cover was awesome! Sadly these days, stupid stuff like the background makes a difference. Hope your move goes well. Cheers
whats the point of running an amp into a clean channel of another amp? why do you need the clean amp? 🤷🏻
@@jeffoberleguitar you don't HAVE to :) But it's an idea for someone who wants to get something unique by treating an amp like a pedal. I released this video before Headrush released their firmware update to include the Blues Breaker Pedal as well.
@priorwitness ah ...i see lol ...well i was just asking. i just got an mx5 a month or so ago and im kind of new to the modeling units world and all the controls and secrets and how the effects are and all that.... i've always had just regular old amps lol...
I think it is “viscous vibe” not “vicious vibe” : )
This seems to be a sleeper pedal... Comes across as a "do it all OD/distortion" without being just another a mid boost TS/Klon style drive. Very interesting. Probably going to be a good pairing for my Klon clone (EHX Soul Food). This is closer to being in ODR-1 with the Underdog. Thanks for posting!
I thought this was great 👍🏻 it is amazingly close isn't it.
Modelers and even profilers have come such a long way. It is so hard to justify buying the real thing these days. I get why they still exist and why they still sell to an extent, but for most of us ... just go modeling :)
Well done, sir.
So you'd have to back up all rigs, presets and effect presets before doing this. Can all those things be backed up? Does a reset also revert you to the original firmware?? Thanks!
@@sbrave2 in short - yes. Connect it to your computer as if it were an external hard drive and copy everything to your hard drive of your choice.
I have the headrush pedalboard and the mx5. All of them sounds so close that I really couldn’t say I can hear the difference. I need to know the settings on the headrush pedals Including the global settings
I agree! It is difficult to hear the difference, and that's the point of the video. It's been a while but i don't remember doing anything fancy with the global settings. There were really just two points I was trying to make with the video. 1) Sound wise it is darn close. One big pro to all of the Headrush units are how well they sound; even for a "budget" unit. 2) The IRs and/or cabs you use are really biggest difference you'll see. If you use quality IRs or run this thing thru some good cabinet speakers you should be happy with the end result.
@@priorwitness I grabbed the Joey Sturgis IRS and they’re amazing. I’m in a studio right now recording a track. I wrote 25 years ago and they love it but it’s not quite the same as my Mesa Mark Four. I have the Mesa Road King also but my mark four is my go to.
Can u hook this up to a PA system?
Yeah ... kind of. You'll need to use a connection that goes from your 1/4" output to XLR. There are cables and adapters you can buy that will do that. Sometimes, if you're lucky, the front of house guys will have an adapter for you to use.
Good stuff, thank you.
Hi, quick question, is the position of the FX Loop in the chain saved as per-preset? or is it fixed to the same position in the chain for all presets? thanks!
@@JAFOpty saved per board/preset. you can move it wherever you want. you can also assign the FX Loop to a button/switch if you want
@@priorwitness amazing! thanks for info!!! 🤓
The latency on the MX5 is to big for live use! It's a toy and nothing more! I din't have a heart selling it to anybody, so I throw it in the bin instead.......
@cowboybob1977 seems a bit harsh. but I never even took it out on a real live performance. I had enough consistency issues during practice that I sold mine. it's a great unit I think for beginners and those who want to keep it in the studio. but out on the road? your results may vary
FYI, you don’t need a second amp block. In HeadRush, amp models work as “presets” within an amp block. So, you can assign a “preset” (amp model) for each scene using just one amp block. It saves an entire block 😬.
Hi very nice video. How can I connect these effects pedals I have to Headrush MX5? Headrush mx5 send> other modulation effect pedall> marshall orgin 20 send> marshall orgin 20 return> headrush mx5 return I would be very happy if you help me
Im a writer..i would luv to write a song for u..and see what u create with it...jammin in Louisiana bro
Jammin in Louisiana brotha...keep doing your thing
Great cover jammin in Louisiana...keep doing ya thing brotha luv it
Hi, are you using the left mono output or left and right using two wires ? Thanks
oh I wish I could remember. Haven't owned it now for a while, but I want to say I had everything just coming out the Left Mono jack. For me everything runs into my amp. So mono is good for me. Then when I run to my DAW, it's still mono because I like having mono tracks to manipulate so i have the flexibility to convert to stereo if I need to in there. I just use plugins for stereo effects that I can twiddle with that benefits the mix rather than dealing with what came in via stereo already.
Can I control scenes via midi?
yes that is possible
@@priorwitness trying to figure out but not sure which cc to use for scenes
@andreirapadas9657 ah. you have to assign a Scene to a footswitch. so if one scene is assigned to footswitch one, for example, then the MIDI command would be 50.
@@priorwitness I tried that but it's responding to rig/stomp mode and not the assigned scene
@@andreirapadas9657 well shoot, brother I don't know what to tell ya at this point. I'm sorry! I could have sworn it was possible. Many moons ago I had an HX Effects connected to an MX5 and I would control the MX5 via MIDI with the HX Effects. I think I was able to switch Scenes with it if I remember. I don't know I could be wrong too.
nice job dude :)
thanks great lesson! question I'm using 3 different scenes with the 3 buttons avaliable, it seems everytime I want to change the distorsion of one scene, it moves to all the other scenes, is there any way to avoid that?
@willowil1 Thanks for the kind words! Every time you activate a scene with a new effect or amp, it shouldn't change the other scenes; the changed distortion in your case should be confined to that scene. that is odd if I understand your question. I wish I could be of more help.
thanks great lesson! question I'm using 3 different scenes with the 3 buttons avaliable, it seems everytime I want to change the distorsion of one scene, it moves to all the other scenes, is there any way to avoid that?
I have my MX5 partnered with the MIDI COMMANDER and its AWESOME!!!
I think that's the way to go honestly :). I was never a fan of the switches on the MX5 itself. But if you control it via MIDI and keep it off to the side it can be a very powerful tool in your rig.
Will this remove IRs I have added? And will this restore the IRs that was included (if there where any, I can't remember)?
yep. it's a complete factory reset.
Download rig link ?
Thank you for sharing. I viewed Part 1 and this. Is your signal chain this? Guitar > JHS Fuzz > Wah > Whammy > Maxon > MX5 Input 'Effects Loop' Source #1 (Distortion): Effects Send > Revv > Mesa Boogie > Source #2 Source #2 (Modulation) : 3rd Dimension > Wampler > Effects Return
It's been a while :) but that sounds right
Great idea to use the JTM45 amp like pedal. Will definitely try this!
Well done
Anyone had a need to use a noise suppression pedal with the mx5? I find the included noise algorithm is not very good compared to a Boss NS-2, for example. Anyone tried to do this and if so, how did you connect it to the mx5? Great content!
Hey man you just use it before the input of the mx5. I have a gigboard basically have it first in your signal like the wah pedal. Just follow the rest of his directions.
So many videos out there… I would like to see some tips and tricks for the Headrush. I just got mine and building a rig is the only thing I have no trouble with.
Can midi turn on and off individual pedals in a certain board? Or would i only be able to switch boards during a set?
@@adamalper804 yes it is possible to control individual pedals via MIDI as well as switch boards
@@priorwitness Awesome, thank you! Must've been old videos that I saw or review that I read...I had the impression that midi could only change boards, not pedals on/off or their settings.
Are there 6 scenes already on the headrush or do you have to down load etra three scenes from the website ?
Awesome job man, you killed it
Amazing this is really helpful after watching your video . Keep bringing more about headrush mx5 Thank you !
I just got a Headrush Prime and I love it. The possibilities are endless from what I can see. Running to a Mackie mixer and 2 / 1300 watt JBLs.
Nice
Thats verry nice👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Love it
B was the rectifier for me. But I still think you could eq the sound a bit by taking off the the mids a bit and turning up the amp gain on the mx5. That would bring it in line with the real thing way more and turn up the gain…
Thanks so much for sharing. I am finding this to be much more flexible than HX Stomp and Pod GO.
what about the floor board model?
