The FTX Trooper Is Brilliant! | Super Duper Trooper Stupor (+ Bloopers)
I'm really enjoying this little short bus... I prefer the look of straight axles to portals (more scale), and they - along with the not-huge suspension travel - mean this is more of a challenge to drive than many trucks. Not that much more, though, as it's still really impressively capable, as simple 4x4 chassis so often are. I think it's more fun to watch than an ultra-flexy portal thing, too.
The genuinely impressive body with its detailed interior and big bumper with brush guards only adds to it. It's got a pleasingly scale look for a lexan body, and frankly it kills a lot of the competition when it comes to the details. All it really lacks is inner fenders, and given the quality of the rest of it, that's easy to forgive. Unless you're after pure performance or are just desperate to spend hundreds more, this is an absolute banger.

I recently decided to make this a flatbed, so I took off the bed sides and tailgate. I wanted to leave the front section but it was very wobbly, so I made some small brackets from steel to brace it at the bottom. Not so much an RC car as a series of baffling design decisions, the CC-01 has not had an easy time on my bench. Despite this - or perhaps because of it? I treated the TF2 to a bit of love recently - it deserved it. Firstly I stripped the axles, replaced every bearing and added fresh grease. Then I fitted the 1.55 alloy beadlocks I got for it some time back (no-name eBay specials, but very nice) and some new Proline Swampers. These are a bit taller than anything it's had before and the front arches needed trimming... nervewracking, that was, but...
If it weren't for the driver, I would believe this is a real car! Your attention to detail and camera work is incredible :)
With this platform, you could quite easily take a rally/desert-style route. I have a CC-01, and I found a few issues myself, and I did my best to rectify them or improve the car. That was a fair few years ago, but I've always kept the car and plan to bring it back to life soon. I have a couple of axial crawlers and enjoy using them on the more challenging terrain. I also have a leaf-sprung Rc4wd trailfinder1/trail stomper, which I'm building into a 60-series land cruiser.

Very cool promotional style video Steve, thank you! I hope you get the chance soon to film with the FTX version. Was thinking, perhaps the company can design certain colours or specs to be FTX only to differentiate from the family members. Maybe a period correct striking colour scheme (light blue metallic, orange) or FTX only scale details/accesoires? A decal sheet with Welsh flag, your and others, UK UA-cam, channel logos? The suspension has some very scale movement! Do you run thinner shock oil and/or add weight to the chassis to get that realistic look? Beautiful scenery!
On the trucks I build I do - I've found that lots of chassis weight, just the right spring rate and not much damping works the best (the weight provides natural rebound damping that looks right). But this truck is just stock out of the box. They seem to have got the springs and oil spot on.
@@rccrawlersmid-wales645 Totally agree. Most kits and RTR's seem to be underweight, oversprung and overdampened. Yes, it is good for crawling performance but it does not look right at all.

I loved watching this video. I like the colour balance - the lichen looks terrific in that light, and the truck look superb. One tiny detail niggled at me throughout, however. It was a nemory of my being offered an Isuzu Trooper with no real rust and the rear roof cut away...for £500. And I said "no". I think it had a petrol engine, and I didn't fancy paying the fuel bills. Still, I could scratch the itch by buying an FMX and taking my Dremel to the body!

Thanks! I get what you're saying about the regular speed film, but to be honest that's not really what I enjoy - I'm not reviewing anything here, I just like making trucks look as real as I can. I think Tomley's done a review, and he'll have regular footage of it in action (and a trustworthy opinion on it too). He's definitely worth checking out.

If you like the portals, gearbox and shifting diffs of the longer one you might not like the simple chassis here, but personally I really dig it. This one's simple, effective and more scale. And cheaper! I'd definitely recommend it, it's a fun and capable drive.
@@rccrawlersmid-wales645 to be honest I had the long wheelbase one and never had it long and sold it, had problems with the gears and changing gear and stuff so got rid of it. I'm in South Wales over the weekend and might bring a truck or two with me.

This one's new, and I don't know if you can get the body only... presumably as a replacement though? I know CML imports them and places like Modelsport sell FTX. Easier to buy the whole truck than to fit the big bumper/body onto a custom chassis though, I'd say (this one's a simple straight-axle thing and nothing like the 5-door's TRX clone, at least).

It's supposed to be 1/10th, but it's never that accurate... mind you, the actual Land Cruiser is pretty big, so you never know. This is a 313mm wheelbase, so the regular Axial '1/10th' crawler size chassis.
Absolutely cracking, even going through the water, which is always a bit iffy due to scale, but it just looked right, need to get my motors body finished and get back out there.

They are fun! I've since modified the green one with metal links (for low-down weight) and a better esc (for less abrupt drag brake) and it's actually really good.
