My aim is to generally share my own journey in astrophotography with the community. In doing so, I hope to also try and help anyone who has just, or thinking starting Astrophotography.
I started really getting into this hobby around the beginning of 2019 and mainly enjoy the deep sky aspect but not limited to this. As I develop my own skills and knowledge, I want to pass this on and share my highly addictive passion, hopefully my content will inspire those with an interest of discovering just some of the truly beautiful objects in our universe.
Due to work and family commitments it can get a little full on. So I will try my best to add content no later than every 2 weeks but of course this could change.
Hope you enjoy the channel.
Clear Skies Everyone.

Astronomy Astrophotography: First Light With My Sky Watcher Esprit 100 Refractor Telescope.
First Light with my Sky Watcher Esprit 100 refractor telescope has finally happened.
Astrophotography is such a great hobby however it does have a down side which is totaly out of our control and that is of course the weather. After six image sessions plus a tinkering session I finaly managed to capture two deep sky objects in between what seemed to be a near none stop coverage of cloud.
I took a while to get this video out but hope you enjoy it and the images.

Just spent a little amount of time to watch your 5 videos in one shot... Congrats Ben you worked miracles ! You are a good dad (even if you did not paint your pier in pink ;) ) and also a good builder ! That's kind of things you can be proud of (both of them). More you appear to me to be a real kindfull man which is rare in this world ! I send you all the best from south of France, and clear skies to YOU... you deserve it ! 🌃⭐🌟🌠 🪐
Thank you so much. I think this has been the nicest comment I have ever had and to be honest a reminder to me why I started this channel in the first place. A well needed push just at the right time as I have been wanting to start making videos again as I have had a bit of a break from it all. So glad you enjoyed the videos and all the best to you!!!
Hey, that's my mantra "Measure once, cut once....then go and by replacement timber, then measure twice and cut once." The build is coming along nicely and the pier is just excellent.
Hi and thank you for your info in the video. I am in doubt about purchasing such an adapter. My question is: since the filter surface in the clip in filters is not round I was wondering if there is a way to ajust the clip in filter in such a way so my sensor won't be blocked by the plastic parts of the clip in filter. I hope you understand what I mean. English is not my first language. Cheers Martin
Hi Martin Appologies for the delay getting back to you. I actualy had the same thoughts as you when I first got this adaptor. When I used the clip-in filters and this adaptor I never found any issues with the plastic bits blocking. Probably due to it being close to the sensor. Having said this I did try to orientate the filter the right way as close as I could by taking it out moving it slightly in the adaptor and then putting it back. Of course this may be different with other cameras/scopes. Be aware I did have a follow on video about this as well to do with the shaking fix due to it being an Astronomik adaptor and me using a skytech filter. Hope this has helped!
The finished image at the end is absolutely phenomenal.
Black and red Scope white Mount and blue and red Pier, beautiful rig.
Enjoyed watching but the background music made it difficult to hear what you were saying in some places.😊
Hi there Thanks for watching and the input about the audeo....Sorry about that. To be honest it's one of my earlier videos, I think I have a few where the sound is dodgy. Clear Skies!
That’s fantastic! I love seeing different ways of doing things because there are a lot of videos out there that are very informative but don’t really break any new ground. I think you’ve done a really great job. This was the first video of yours that I’ve seen, but I can’t wait to see more!
Thank You very much! Appreciate the kind feedback. Glad you enjoyed it.
looks great mate. I'm thinking of getting this scope soon.
It's a fantastic bit of gear. Just wish the clouds would clear off so I can use it more. Thanks for watching!
Hi again, very impressed with the obsy build, kinda on catch up with your channel and can feel your enthusiasm, sometimes just doing these things can be really positive. I've been considering converting an old tin garage workshop in the end of our garden, or take it down and build a roll off, it's just a backyard terrace in town but probably worth the effort, love a challenge even after retirement 👍atb, Tom & Julie on the South coast...
That does sound like a project and a half! Me being me I would tear it down and have a blank canvas. What ever you do, wish you all the best! Happy building!!!
Bit late to the party, but what gain and offset would you suggest to start with on imx533 sensor? 101 and 50? Bortle6 here
Hi Appologies for the very late reply! I personally use the same settings as you and never used any different. Im in a Bortle 5/4 but when I first got the camera I was in a high Bortle 5.
@@CosmuzzAstro ty for the reply. It gives me a place to start with
Just talked didn’t help show how you did it which is what people need to
Thats fair enough. This is one of my earlier videos and was still finding my feet I think, but as I do with all the feedback I get on videos, I take it on board and try to improve.
Great video Ben. Been waiting to see the Esprit 100 in action, but we now all think it's the reason we've had this bad weather! Let's hope for more clear skies over summer. 👍
HaHa! I did throw a disclaimer out when I got the scope but yeh, it's on me....sorry everyone! Many thanks and Clear Skies....hopefuly!
hope you are good sir.. nice to see your face once more
Thank you very much!
Lovely images Ben crisp and clear 👍👍.
Many thanks. Quite the improvement I thought!
An amazing rig there and great images 👌.
Thank You very much!
Great shots there Ben and really enjoyed the video. As a fellow youtuber I get you with the weather, what a chew on its been trying to get out and film
Cheers Sy! Glad you enjoyed mate. Rough with the smooth I suppose and a lot of patience. Hope all is well!
Hi Ben great to see another video from you mate , both images are excellent ,looking forward to seeing your next videos
Many Thanks Tony. Glad you like the images and video. Clear Skies!
Awesome Ben, happy new scope!
Lovely images Ben I do like the Iris nebula must have another bash at it sometime. I remember talking to Es Reid when I took my scope to him to check out the optics & he highly rates the Esprits. Fingers crossed the weather improves, clear skies!!
there's a comparison thread on CN from several years back (probably 2018?) between the Tak FSQ-85 and Esprit 80. Let's just say the Esprit 80 held its head very high and was very close to the Tak, like almost indistinguishable. The default focusers are good enough for the job too unless you have a massively heavy imaging train.
Nice first light mate, got some great detail. Nice scope that, lets hope the weather improves soon. Clear skies
Ceers Glenn. I can't remember seeing this much cloud. It's been a bad year so far. Wish you all the best mate!
Nice video Ben. Love the scope. Two great images you got there. The Iris neb is one of my alltime favourite nebs. Clear skies mate.
Cheers Rob! I seem to keep going back to the Iris. Hope you and the family are all well mate.
@@CosmuzzAstro likewise mate hope all good. We're all fine and plodding along as it were. Keep that fine scope pointing at the sky and your fam safe mate.
Great to see you have managed to get first light(s) with the new scope. The Esprits may not be the cheapest refractors but gosh, they have nice optics and lovely flat fields (love my 120). Looking forward to seeing more videos and images. Clear skies.
Cheers Logan. What a game changer for me. I would to get some galaxy goodness next time round. Will be interesting to see the results.
Great video, and first light with the Esprit, very similar set up to me, even the same awesome Svbony dew strap….👍🏻 And a couple of cracking images at the end, particularly the Iris nebula, you really captured some great dust there…
Cheers! A good step up I think from my little RedCat. Can't wait for my next session(s)
That's a great result Ben, lovely images!
Thank you very much!
Great shots Ben. You can process your moon videos with Autostakkert and Registax software, both free. BR John
Think I will give that a go. I have never that software to be honest. Many thanks!
What are and where did you get those space velcro band things?
Hi It's just a roll of velcro that you can cut to size. Think I got the stuff from AMAZON
Great captures Ben and a very nice timelapse. It was definitely a special natural event. We had a great display here up in Auckland which is normally way way too far north to event capture a hint of the aurora australis, so to be able to see it clearly and brightly with the naked eye here was truly special. A big shout out to the Sun for creating this display. Clear skies.
Hi Ben great images and the time lapses are brilliant mate
Great video! Well done!
Great stuff, glad you managed to see it. We had a good display up here in Scotland, I took quite a few pictures but regret not getting a time lapse (I was too busy watching the show!)
Wish it had appeared over Southern Kansas.
Another great set of images….👍🏻
It was a stunning display mate one I shall cherish for the rest of my life interesting you should mention you weren't seeing any colour though as we were especially the arc when it appeared right above us the pinks greens & reds at times were very vivid.
Nice one Ben. I certainly didn't expect to see the aurora here in london for sure. Clear skies mate.
Nice one Ben! It was a great experience mate, glad you got to see it as well👍
Just found your channel, I'm also from the north east, Sunderland. However I have lived in British Columbia, Canada for 50. Years. I am just starting my observatory build. Really like your channel. Keep up the good work. Ken.
Thank you very much Ken. Bet theres some great places to go with a dark sky there. Good look on your build mate, hope it goes well for you!
Funny, the video starts out with a bit of a crazy man, surrounded by junk and debris. Then he builds the most gorgeous pier.
Just had a good chuckle there. It does look that way doesn't it lol.
hey man, i have the same telescope as you but i have absolutely no clue how to connect it to the telescope and i didn’t find the manual etc helpful. how did you connect it? (do you need an adapter)
Hiya Thanks for watching. I used 3 extenders/spacers that came with the 533 to give the 67.9mm backfocus. 11mm ring which goes on the camera. Then the M42M-M42F-21L (21MM). Then the M42M-M48F-16.5L (16.5MM) That then all attaches onto the field flattener 61A which is set to 12.9. If you have the zwo filter draw, that replaces the 21mm spacer. Hope thats helps
Welcome back. Pleased the new scope proved popular with everyone. Enjoy the new equipment. Look forward to future videos.
Great pictures ty
I think your kids are probably better than me at this hobby. Ty for the video
Nice. Just subscribed.
Hi Ben. Your vids are really helping me with my observatory build. What are the dimensions of the rails you used and what sized wheels also? Many thanks. Craig
Hi Craig Glad the videos are helping and thanks for watching. Random question.....Do you live in the UK? Reason I ask is I will give you the links for where I got the stuff as well.
Hi Ben. Yes, I'm in the UK. I'm struggling with working out what dimension of aluminium track to get, so I thought I would use what you used, and then I know the wheels would fit the track too. Thanks ever so much. Craig 🔭
No probs mate I just had to go measure up there as couldn't remember what I used. 2X 5M LONG Aluminium channel 1 1/2" W X 3/4" H X 1/8" Thick www.themetalstore.co.uk/products/5m-long-aluminium-channel (They aint cheap) The castors are from B&Q Unbraked Medium duty Fixed Castor WC108, (Dia)75mm (H)98.5mm (Max. One of the best, if not the best telescope from Asia. Is it on level of AP or Tak? I don’t think so.
