Vanda orchid care
Vandas are one of my favourite orchids. They are beautiful, showy and easy to care for.
Let us look into the care of vanda orchids.
#orchid
#orchidcare
Vanda orchids are easy to care for provided we remember the basic needs of these beautiful and stunning beauties.
Vandas are high light orchids. Place them in locations where they will get maximum shaded light.
Water your vandas daily and sufficiently. They need high amount of water for proper growth and to bloom.
Humidity is an important factor for proper growth of vandas. For vandas to grow and to bloom, provide them a humidity of atleast 70% or more. On lesser humid days place a humidity tub or bucket so that humidity requirement for vandas is met.
Hybrid vandas need fertilizer during the summer when they grow leaves and roots.
Species vandas donot need fertilizer.
Potting or mounting depends on resources available at your disposal. Generally vandas have roots which grow long and hang in the air. Therefore it is best in practice to mount them in slated baskets or any other object of similar kinds.
Blooming time for vandas is spring season. They put out spikes in late winter which is generally end of February. The spikes take about one to two months to grow and the blooms open after that.
Many vandas are fragrant with the species ones being more fragrant. Vanda blooms last about two weeks. The blooms are very beautiful with solid as well as combination of colours.

I do have plans to start an online nursery which is in progress. Which one do you want?
Hello mam 👋👋👋 do you sell orchid s??
Sorry for replying late. I ve not started selling yet but I have plans to setup an orchid nursery. Which one do you need?
Hi, there are very few channels on UA-cam by Indians. I recently have fallen in love with phaleanopsis but all I can find are UA-camrs from Northern hemisphere. Thanks. Please keep it up. Do you sometimes reply to comments?
Hello Anirima, thank you for your kind words. You comments give me so much encouragement. I do reply bcoz I want to be in constant touch with my viewers. My videos are for my viewers and their problems. Please keep sending your suggestions, reviews and also any corrections. All are welcome! 😍
@@MyOrchidWorld great… 😊
You are the keiki queen 🥰
Hello can I please contact you on Facebook or WhatsApp, do you sell orchids, I am from indore location and I am struggling to grow Vanda since long time, please help
How did you save your orchids in this heat wave? All of mine died.
The heat wave did cause stress to my orchids. I watered them daily twice and sometimes thrice. During the hot days I kept humidity trays for all orchids. For vandas I kept humidity containers for multiple orchids. And most importantly it has been raining heavily since 1st week of June. So it has been a relief. I store rain water in buckets and use them for my orchids.
I like your video which gives simple straightforward information 👍🏻
Thank you 🙏
I got a aerides rosea in the jungle, I want to plant it on my drumstic tree, but afraid of monsoon is starting now, so will I plant it under home or what should I do, I am confused. Please guide me .
Drumstick is a softwood tree which might break. It is better you mount it on any wood piece or pot it. Aerides rosea is a tropical orchid. Monsoon rains are in fact very beneficial for it. My rosea is kept in my shade house where it gets soaked in rain and also gets afternoon sun. It never gets sunburns.
Very informative video, thank you so much.
What about water? And any fertilizers?
Watering can be done by soaking the entire orchid in water. Species orchids donot need fertilizer. If hybrid orchids are mounted, they can be fertilized either by spraying or soaking the orchid in fertilizer solution.
@@MyOrchidWorld Thank you so much 😊
Most welcome

Welcome dear 🤗
Can you give me one keiki please
How Many times in a year is gets bloom?
It blooms once a year during May June
Can i grow it on pots??what should be the potting media??
Yes, it can be grown in pots. But ultimately the roots will come out of the pot and over the years the bunch of roots will spread in every direction. To pot it, you can use coconut fibre pieces, charcoal pieces and broken brick pieces.
@@MyOrchidWorld thank you for helping me out❤️
Very pretty. I have a lot of black ants on my orchids . How to get rid of them? I washed the plant thoroughly freshly repotted, still the ants don't go away
It's absolutely normal for ants to make colonies in orchid pots.Even I had this problem. I tried washing and soaking the pots in water. It quite solved my problem. Even repotting doesn't solve the problem. The ants will go away eventually, donot worry much. Keep the medium coarse by adding few pieces of charcoal or broken brick pieces. Ants usually make colonies in damp wood. If the medium contains bark pieces then these can attract ants.
@@MyOrchidWorld thanks.
Hi, nice information. Where are you from. Your phals look very healthy. Can you pls share ancharam nursery contact no.

Very informative 👌... Ma'am from where you buy species Phalaenopsis? Can u pls share the number.... Is it difficult to grow ? Only one species i bought but it didn't survive... Make a video on species n primary hybrid Phalaenopsis care....pls share some genuine sellers number
Hi Kakoli, I got my species phalaenopsis from Ancharam Nursery in Dangtol.
Species phalaenopsis is rather easy to grow. Thank you for the suggestion. I ll definitely make a video on primary hybrids and species phalaenopsis
Ancharam Nursery is located in Bengtol and I physically visited it. It is about one and half hour journey from Bengtol gate.
Thank you 😊
Do you have any Primary hybrid Phalaenopsis seller contact number?
Is this available for sale ?
Yes.
How to make it bloom never bloom at home it goes very well but no flower
There can be many reasons for orchids not blooming. May be it is still not matured to produce blooms. Also it may not be getting sufficient light , water or humidity. I have an exclusive video on the reasons why orchids do not bloom. Please check out the video.
can you speak about black spots on leaves like @5:58
The orchid on which the leaves have spots is the dendrobium farmeri. It was bought from a local nursery where it was growing in full sun. Those spots are sunburns as told by the nursery owner. New leaves do not have these spots and the orchid is growing properly.
I bought two cattleya seedlings before 6 months. I could not see any new growth still. What should i do mam?
Orchids take some time to adjust to the new environment bcoz their previous environment was different where they were growing. It is normal for orchids to take time to adjust. Seedlings are more vulnerable. Since it's spring you will see new growth very soon. Keep watering them. Keep them in bright shade. Maintain humidity level with a humidity tray if it's less than 70% in your area. If possible grow them outside or try to collect rainwater and water orchids with it. I am sure your Cattleyas will grow well. Gud luck 👍
Is sunlight directly on the orcfids ok for them?
Orchids
Direct morning sunlight is beneficial for orchids. Some species orchids can tolerate direct afternoon sun but they do get sunburns on their leaves. So it is gud to protect them from direct afternoon sun
Very informative video . Cattleyas are my favorite orchids . I live in the Tropics so thats how i care for mine.
Thank you! Cannot wait to do this!
I just take 1 healthy cane with roots - plant to another pot . Easy care ….
Excellent video thank you
Have you tried propagating it from the old stem? If you are successful, please share. I have one of this orchid but I'm not confident to repot it
In dendrobiums like farmeri, new keikis usually grow from the base of the orchid. Basically , dendrobiums have a rhizome from where all canes arise. To propagate dendrobiums you can divide the plant where each division contains atleast three canes. Also you can make pieces of an old cane and place them in a moist and humid environment to produce keikis. Please checkout my video on propagating methods of dendrobium.
Thank you so much for explaining. Will let you know if mine is successfull.@@MyOrchidWorld
I ll be waiting for your update 🙂
Very nice video mam.thanks for sharing mam
very helpful video!!
Thank you.
Thank you Madame, I found your video very informative. I have several mature dens but also some seedlings I have recently bought. It would be good to have a video regarding the care of small denbrodium seedlings. I live in sub-tropical Queensland, Australia.
Thank you for your encouraging words. I ll surely bring a video as per your request. 🙂
Thank you so much. I have it on my home.
Ur from which part of India I live in mumbai. My oncidium haven't flowered yet. Can u suggest some orchid please
My area is has a tropical climate which is where orchids get their best conditions to grow. Mumbai has a tropical climate too but with lesser rainfall and very high temperatures during mid summer. Please try the below: 1) Keep the orchids in shade 2) When it is very hot - mist the orchids 3) Water them daily since rain is less than usual tropical areas 4) Fertilize regularly during summer and winter Some orchids you can grow in your climate: 1) Cattleyas 2) Dendrobiums 3) Vandas 4) Phalaenopsis
There can be variety of reasons for orchids not flowering. If you could share details of the oncidium that has not bloomed, may be I cud get a better idea
@@MyOrchidWorld oncidium twinkle red
Oncidiums need bright shaded sunlight and moderate humidity. Water them when media is almost dry. If oncidiums donot get enough light they may not bloom. Check the colour of the leaves. If they are dark green, may be you need to shift them to a more lighted area. Keep them safe from direct sunlight always.
👍 nice
Thanks, Can i use Plumeria plant to stick?
Plumeria is a small tree which doesn't develop very hard wood. Therefore during storms the branches break. So it is not an excellent choice to mount orchids although you can do it. No problem in that. Also the plumeria doesn't grow very tall and hence your orchid mounted on the plumeria might become food for some animal.
Hi there. I live in Sydney Australia and have been trying unsuccessfully to grow dendrobium orchids. I now know why thanks to your channel. Will keep watching and hopefully next year may have blooms on my dendrobiums. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍
I am so glad my video helped you. Do send pictures of your first blooms
Thank for sharing
Nicely explained your orchid growing experience. Understood some of my mistakes, and will rectify them. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your encouraging words
Which wood plank we can use to mount orchids
Any wood piece can be used. For example you have a leftover piece from the carpenter or say you have a cut branch of any tree, then you can easily use it to mount orchids.
Yes😅. My orchid keikis were yellowing though roots are great. But they r still in 3" pots. I was wondering whether I need to repot? So I opened the video to ask you and you were talking on the very topic. Thank you😊 Also ,how do I know if they have matured?. All are hybrid. How do I get species irchids
Hi Sunita, different orchids mature at different periods. Both hybrid and species dendrobium orchids generally mature within one year. Vandas take 5 to 6 years to mature and bloom. Hence my favourites are dendrobiums. You can buy species orchids online. There are quite a few online orchid nurseries. I generally buy from Tree of Life from Kerala.
@@MyOrchidWorld Thanks A ton.
Thank you very much. Your video is very informative. I have a new potted one (I live in Australia) so was hoping to learn more about its care. Regards Diane
Hi Diane, glad to know my video helped. The dendrobium aphyllum is a pendulous orchid meaning its canes and blooms hang in the air. Hence they grow best when mounted either on a tree branch or a piece of wood or cork or even a piece of styrofoam. Since your aphyllum is potted, allow its roots to grow freely with minimal media. This orchid is drought tolerant which means it can go days without water. During summer, it needs bright filtered light with medium water and high humidity. During winter it undergoes rest and during this time watering and fertilization should be completely stopped to ensure blooms in early spring.
What if you get Kiki
When a keiki is atleast 7 to 8 cm tall with a nice bunch of roots you can remove it from the mother plant and pot seperately. You can also let the keiki remain with the mother plant.
