Hanging Swarm Traps- Let's Get This Season Started
Thanks for the video, Tim!
Hi from southern New Zealand 👋😃 it's summer here on the 5th of January when this was posted😅 my swarm trap caught nothing this year 😖😁
What a wonderful surprise today and a sweet opportunity to wish you a blessed new bee season in 2025. Happy New Year.
I’m ready for spring lol.
I use 7 to 8 frame stuff as swarm traps and they do catch big swarms!
You brought spring back!!!!!!! Thanks!
Good luck with the bees
😁Happy 2025.👍
Instead of coring out a box, would it be possible to do your OA treatment through the bottom screen? Cut a hole in the political sign and have the treatment come up through the floor?
I bought one of these Fake-A-Maye hives and its the bomb in the winter, its a month ahead of any wood set-up. Wood supers will also work on top but you may need a wood rim to keep it from sliding off. Also acquired an ANEL, its a little different but another great beehive. I made a wood cradle to hold the bottom board on cinder blocks or the wood racks I use. Just bought one more of each insulated hive to start using in the spring, not interested in poly because of rodents and other critters.
Did you ever get to the bottom of why you lost your bees?
Tim, Never get off that soap box.🙏Happy Thanksgiving to ALL your family.. God Bless U ❤God Bless Your Bees.
Hello sir do you have raw propolis
GREAT WORD Happy Thanksgivng GOD Bless
Stay on that soap box and keep teaching Tim
Tim is a genuine people person. He speaks in love & for love of his fellow man.
Nice 👌🐝💯
Thanks for watching and good luck.
It's another year watching you and your bees😁Winter is on it's way. Thanks for sharing your time with us, Blessed Days...
The weather & temperatures here in south central Pennsylvania have been so nice, I'm still feeding 2:1 syrup. I also use the dry sugar, but I put mine above the inner cover under a custom board with #8 hardware cloth to keep them contained. I use modified shallow supers with vent holes year round, so in winter I place some burlap on top of the sugar cage and ratchet strap the box until March. I'm also giving them one last round of OA at the moment, but after that I'll be putting them to bed. Great video as always 😃
Sounds like a good plan. It looks like these warm days are leaving us for a little bit. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Hi from southern New Zealand 👋😃 very interesting, you're feeding dry sugar which is how they feed in the tropical islands too. I love your floors on the hives, did you build them yourself or buy them like that, they look great. I don't think you have to worry about winter turning up it's still at our place, we've had snow for the last three weekends which is more snow than we've had for the last five winters😳😅 and it's cold as a fridge especially in the morning, 2 Celsius/35 F this morning 🥶 and it's mid spring but warm during the day, and the thyme nectar flow has started which is our main nectar flow 👍👋 great video 👍👋
I built those bottom boards, they are screened. It looks like winter is coming, talking about snow here this week. Hope your season goes great, let me know how you are doing. Thanks for watching.
@theboonecountybeekeeper 👋😳😅 it's been interesting this spring. Wet snow three weekends in a row, completely unprecedented, a boom sycamore tree flowering and it took us a while to figure out where the nectar flow was coming from 😅 thyme honey flow is looking fantastic though and lupin and elderberry is flowering heavily this year too. Snow prediction again for this week, which I gotta say is very very odd but warm weather between the southerly storms. We've had more snow this spring than we've had snow for the last five winters 😳 but it's a blessing because it's getting moisture into the ground and the flowers are really booming😁 lot more chalkbrood showing up this year with the wetter weather but it's clearing. Got sunburned yesterday 🤣 helping the neighbors top their pine trees because we've had so many southerly wind storms this spring and trees are snapping branches out, and the bee's are looking great 👍👋
Thanks for the video. First year beekeeping for me and I had two HiveIQ boxes. Lost one hive to robbing (pre-treatment). I bought a oav wand from Amazon and just finished my 3rd treatment. I had to “test” on my empty hive but was able to get the wand in the entrance and then rest it on the inner metal grate at the bottom. So far so good
Good deal, those mites are tough little fellows for sure. Good luck and I hope you have a great season next year with lots of honey. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for all the info on fencing. I also had a unit go bad last week. It was a plug-in 120v. I had a backup. I also hooked a solar unit. I am running them both simultaneously, so if one fails, another is running. I'm not sure if this is a good idea, but it seems to be working.
Good information, thanks. Take care and thanks for watching.
There's the Boon County Beekeeper, been asking around after you, Glad to see ya Tim. Happy Lords Day...
Still kicking DC, just getting ready for Winter. God Bless you buddy!
This was great! I found my momma gone last November and I miss her every minute of every day! We never made apple butter but we cooked together all the time. I'll try this for Christmas this year! God Bless You, Tim! ❤
Sorry to hear about your mom, it is hard for sure. I think about mine everyday. Try that apple butter, it is good. Thanks for watching.
Don't you know by now, your wife wanted flowers diamonds or honey bee's. NOT COVID. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah, she wasn't to happy about that haha. Thanks for watching.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂covid 😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉❤😅
Hi Tim. I checked on mine yesterday and none of them are very heavy either. I'll be giving them 2:1 for as long as I can, but it's already getting cooler, especially at night here in south central Pennsylvania. Thanks for the video and feel better soon.
On the road to recovery I think, they are starting to put some weight on but I still have 3 that are light. We will get there hopefully, thanks for watching and good luck.
Great videos ole buddy, split the long hive up and use it for a multiple 5 frame nucs.
Thanks for watching buddy.
Tim, Bee well soon & in all things continue bee-ing blessed. ❤
Prayers buddy, eat more honey it does a body's immune system good. I'm not sure if I care for the super insulated hives, I wonder if it somewhat detaches the colony from the natural swings of the season. Sounds like it's about to run away with ya though so that's cool. 😁Get them bees ready for Winter, Blessed Days...
Thanks DC, that covid is rough. Thanks for watching.
can you show what's going on with the long hive
Actually, I have been filming a series on the long hive that will be coming out a little later. Thanks for watching.
Nice video ❤
Thank you so much and thanks for watching.
My mom’s people are from Boone Co. My grandpap was born there..Marion Tyler (Pete)
Awesome, do you know where they lived in Boone County? Thanks for watching.
Good stuff
Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much!
Love your videos, thanks for watching.
One never knows what they will find in a beehive. I've had this happen to me too. Strange. Glad you found a queen in there.
Well it was odd for sure, it appears that I am queen right in all of them, no clue where she came from. How are your bees doing? Winter is coming. Thanks for watching.
Tim, This happens rarely…. It has happened to me once…. It is called a usurpation, a group of bees (sometimes termed a swarm) with a queen settles on the outside of an established colony close to the entrance. They take over the colony with the new Queen. Happened to me with a yellow marked Queen taking over a pink marked Queen…. Mike Barry made me aware of this uncommon happening with honeybees…. More common with Africanized Honeybees, but, it can happen with them all…. Hope this helps my friend…. USURPATION
It is odd for sure, I checked everyone else, evidently, wherever she came from, they must have requeened. I have brood in all of them.
Well, that's odd😂 nice odd but still odd, maybe she just lost condition In your dry spell 🤷 spring is taking a lunch break here we had a massive storm come up from Antarctica and dump three inches of snow after over a week of 18 Celsius/65 Degrees F and cloudless skys so the darn flowers are coming out and the bee's can't fly🤦 did a hive reversal too a day before it slammed us, it was supposed to miss but came right up the middle of the south island 😬 I boost feed so plenty of pollen sub and sugar fondant on already, when you live in the mountains it pays to cover your options despite what the weather man says because it can turn back into winter in the middle of summer here😂 hope you feel better soon 👋👍 God bless you and your family and your bee's too😃
Starting to wind down here and you are just getting started, good luck this season. Thanks for watching.
Love the intro music
Thank you so much, I like it to. Thanks for watching.
Tim, Nothing like apple butter on a out of the oven piece of corn bread. I butter up a corner pocket & then pack it generously with a spoon of apple butter. Love seeing a capable man in the kitchen so know that I loved your video. TY for sharing yet another of your skillsets.
Nothing like good old apple butter on a rainy day.
Good to see ya Tim, grew up eating apple butter good stuff right there. Thanks for sharing your time with us, Blessed Days...
That apple butter is some good stuff for sure, thanks for watching and God bless DC.
Preston county new beek here. Love your videos.
Thank you so much and good luck with the bees.
God bless you and your family! We need more good Christian channels on UA-cam.
Thank you, we certainly do. Thanks for watching!
Great video Tim! I have a few colonies where the queen is doing well and a few I'm trying pollen and feed in an attempt to get them going or I don't believe they'll have enough bees to make it through winter. It finally cooled down enough here in South Central Pennsylvania to use Formic Pro, so I have that on and will follow up with OXA in the late fall.
Man it sure has been hot this summer, good luck and thanks for watching.
👍👍👍
I wonder if you can treat through the bottom
I thought about that to, you might be able to. I actually treated mine this past weekend through that plug that I installed and it done good. Thanks for watching and good luck.
My last swarm was a biggie too. I was Varela able to get it to my side by side. Was going to sell it but decided to keep for honey production.
This was great swarm season , they were all big this year for some reason. Hope you get lots of honey, thanks for watching.
I definitely recommend Brawes!
I love that place, great people. Thanks for watching.
@@theboonecountybeekeeperyour welcome keep up the good work this year God bless you!
Hi from central Otago southern New Zealand Tim. Glad you enjoyed your holiday, yellow clover is a new one on me, we have mostly white clover not too much around here though, we've got wild common thyme and willow in central Otago. You're not the only one with bee woes, I checked a hobbyist hives today because even though it's mid winter here, we've had strong wind coming across the Australian deserts and running right into us so the temperature for the last three days has been 62 degrees F which is very rare in mid winter but happens every few years. Well, he was trying to do single brood management but left the queen excluder and a full depth honey super above it😬 the results of which were 1 dead out with a full depth super 25kgs 55 american pounds of thyme honey capped in it, one strong queenless hive with nothing in the bottom except a smattering of beebread on one frame and about three frames of bee's down there, the majority up in the super though, and one queen right with swags of bee's in the super so I couldn't pull the supers from either hive because the weather is turning and we are getting snow tonight. I'm thinking about newspaper combine of the queenless with the queen right above the queen rights honey super, but honestly I'm kinda stumped because I run double deeps and pull my supers. Not sure how to tackle that, the weather won't warm up much here until the second week of September in early spring. Appreciate any thoughts you or anyone might have about it, I just don't have experience with single brood management and it's not something I've ever seen before 😂 great video 👍 God bless you and your family and your bee's 👋👍
Greetings from West Virginia. New Zealand looks like a beautiful place. I used to chat with a lady from there about beekeeping and I was always fascinated with the different types of weather and flows that you have. Sounds like you are having your hands full with those bees, they are always throwing something at us for sure. I agree with you on the newspaper combine if you can find the right weather to do it. I actually am going to have to combine a few of mine as well. The queens here are ramping down getting ready for the upcoming winter. Hardly any brood in any of my colonies. Thanks for watching and let me know how everything turns out.
@@theboonecountybeekeeper yeah we certainly get weather here😂 I'm as far inland as you can get in new Zealand about 140 miles from both coasts so we have a Mediterranean climate in central Otago unlike most of New Zealand which is moderated by the proximity of the ocean. Being in the mountains we get all kinds of crazy stuff going on, one day it'll be minus 5 Celsius and the next it'll be 17 plus 😅 but it's a unique region to beekeep because we don't have "bush honey" from nearby forests like most of New Zealand. It's as close to desert conditions as you can get in NZ 😃 checking the hobbyists hives today🤔 see how they're doing and I agree I think I'll do the newspaper combine in the first week of September.
That'll happen been an up and down season this year, I guess they said UP. Blessed Days buddy...
It definitely has been a wild ride this season for sure, thanks for watching buddy and good luck out there.
Those crazy bugs are unpredictable sometimes! Thanks!
They sure are, just when you think that you have them figured out, they change everything. Thanks for watching and good luck.
