- Lessons I learned the hard way! There is a method for safely loading and storing Byrna chemical rounds in the magazine so they do not split at the seams
this vid has stopped potential accidents for sure
I just bought my Byrna about a week and a half ago. This is a great point. I never thought about that. I’ll definitely change the way I load my magazine. 👍🏼
Very good advice...Ive done this for two years now and have never had a pepper round break. I also make sure I dont slam the mags in place.
Thats a really good tip... I also recommend if you're going to keep a clip of chemical rounds loaded, buy a magazine cover to keep it in so it doesnt accidentally release the chemical rounds in whatever place your storimg your rounds and Byrna. Last January when i contacted Byrna to see if I could get a Red/Orange plate for one of my magazines, they told me they discontinued them. Luckily there was one in my son's Byrna case so I stole it so I'd have a separate magizine that I could easily identify when theyre in their covers.
I totally agree the mag cover is a great idea thanks!
Magazine , not clips
Just put a little sticker on the outside magazine cover my man
this video made me think of eggs because you can put so much force on an egg from the top and bottom and the egg doesn't break but if you put force on the side of it, its going to break easily
Good advice. Today I notice some dust coming from my Byrna magazine. Needless to say, I started coughing and sneezing. I can't imagine what a full blown launch would be like.
It’s crazy how you don’t smell it, it just sneaks up on you, I can so relate that stuff is nasty!
Great info. Thanks! Never thought of this
Excellent information, thank you! 👍🏽I wish to have had it before experiencing a broken pepper round. I am ready now to avoid it!
Well thought out friend . Good info
Thanks for the video - Excellent advice, I have an LE and haven't used the pepper rounds that come with the kit yet. After seeing this I might just get a five round mag solely for the pepper balls.
Byrna actually recommends the 5 round mag, the spring is much weaker! Thanks for dropping by!
You have the BEST advice!!!
I appreciate that!
Definitely some great pointers here. I just bought the LE and will only be putting 6 in the mags instead of 7. One of the two mags will have first, a kinetic round, then 4 pepper/cs rounds and then topped off with a kinetic round. I will load the chemical rounds the way you instructed now though, because it makes a LOT of sense. The one mag I will always keep loaded that way for defense only and the second mag I will use for practice. Thanks for the great and informative video!
Oh yeah, and ALWAYS a fresh, non punctured CO2 canister installed for the defense mode trips down the mountain to the Walmart. No partially used CO2 canisters to be stored in the launcher when loaded up for the ready at home with the non chemical kinetic rounds either.
Perfect! so far I have had absolutely no chemical leaks loading the rounds this way, good luck!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 I just watched a video where the owner (Bryan), of the company loaded all of the pepper/gas projectiles the way you explained here. Could tell he had been doing it this way for quite a while too. I already re adjusted my pepper mag to this method. Thanks!
Excellent. After alternating, I have opted to do a full MAX clip with 1 kinetic in chamber
Excellent! We'll thought out video. Thanks
Great video. Ty for the insight
Your advice is why I subscribed. 👍
Awesome, thank you!
Great Points! Thank you!
Excellent, thank you
Good advice, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
You are awesome 🔥🔥🔥just subscribed bro👌
Thanks 🔥
Thank you sir for that advice, I will try that next time. I won't be doing anytime soon because I've been exposed too much and I'm tired of coughing and blowing my nose and sneezing! Byrna says they have to make them like they do because they need to break on impact but I think they could make them a bit more thicker. So for now I am using just the inert projectiles.
I have been there! They are odorless so it really takes you by surprise and it sucks, lol!
subscribed! great channel
Thank you!
Good stuff. Thank you so much.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you sir. Just received my LE and your videos are super helpful. Where did you get the camo wrap.
Right off of the Byrna website but I’m not sure if there still available!
They are still available last week I walked into their store. They don't make them for the LE I was told
BRAVO
You make a good point common sense that I never considered guess I've been lucky never had any of my pepper balls break in the mag I don't use Byrna brand maybe thats why I prefer Pepperball brand just the same I now loading away from the seam also I don't like to load pepper in the 7 round mag the spring seems to be much stronger Thanks for the info
I will have to try the pepperball brand the Byrna are like eggshells! Thanks.
@@airgunnerreviews7888 I threw a few byrna reds on the floor and they were hard to break. You don't want them any harder. They won't split
Thanks for the tip, as usual you are spot on.
But about mixing both max and kinetics in the same magazine, is it a good practice ?
The chemical rounds are real fragile and can rupture/crack in the barrel so I like to keep at least 1 kinetic round loaded so if a chemical round cracks I can limit the clean up to the magazine and wiping down the inside of the handle. Just my personal preference, thanks for watching!
@@airgunnerreviews7888
Thanks for critical advice. Just a thought: would it help to LIMIT exposure if the magazine with chemical rounds were stored in a zip lock bag or plastic container separate from the launcher ??? Please advise. Thanks
I have them powder off on me, it was no fun! Thanks for the tip
Learned the hard way lol
So did I!
Does it make any sense for the first round in a 7 round magazine to be something other than a chemical round on the pointy part of the follower then load them just as you stated
I think you’re ok as long as you load with the pepperball seam not making contact with the pointy part, once it’s in it is secure. I like to load 5 chemical rounds and 2 kinetic on top, just my preference!
My current seven round mag goes 2 glass breakers (kinetic) 3 pepper and then 2 aluminum incase the person somehow is still coming. Do you think that’s a solid idea? Or should i worry about a misfire from the pepper balls. I’ve only tested it once since the pepperballs are one use and expensive but i didn’t see anything that caused myself concern
I think you have the right idea and I wouldn’t worry about misfires!
The problem I found with this procedure is that the initial rounds rotate as I load the subsequent rounds so they do not hold the horizontal position. Byrna has a real problem with these rounds because mine repeatedly break sitting in the launcher in a drawer.
mine break no matter what - I keep my all peppers in a baggie loaded in one 5 round cart only now we will see thanks for tips
I've only had one max round split at the "equator" but for other projectiles they cracked. So how should I put in the pepper rounds first or last?
I put the max rounds on the bottom and load the kinetics on top I never unload them so the magazine is dedicated just for self defense, I find just removing the rounds and reloading weekends the “equator”. Thanks for dropping by!
Two things for you: one think I'll stick with 5 round mag (instead of 7) due to pressure. Second, the "cloud" in the chemical round holder; does that mean they are bad? BTW, have an LE and really like it.
Probably is a better idea to keep the chemical rounds in the 5 round mag and interesting enough Byrna came out with a video on this subject. I have my 7 round mag loaded with 5 chemical rounds topped off with two kinetics and haven’t had any problems but I use my spare mag for practice so the chemical rounds are not disturbed! Thanks for watching!!!
How long do you think I can leave my chemical rounds in the magazine before they start cracking ?
That is a good question! So far it’s been 5 months without a crack. I think most of the problem is loading and unloading from the magazine so I keep one mag dedicated and I softly insert in the launcher when reloading. The newer Max rounds are a different color and are shinier so I think Byrna may have changed the shell to not crack as easy.
Do you load the magazine completely with the chemical rounds, or all but one?
I keep the top round a kinetic and the rest OC max, just my personal preference! Thanks for dropping by!!!
How am I even supposed to load the max rounds if they already have powder in the case! They haven't even been removed from the case yet and are already leaking! 🙁
That really sucks they are too expensive for that to happen! Byrna really needs to improve the shells!
They may have become damaged in shipping. Reach out to Byrna. I'm sure they will make it right!
I guess it wont work on the new model.... LE ... I read that it does not keep a round in the gun without the mag
The LE can hold a projectile in the breech just like all the other Byrna launchers!
Weird, I never had a break in a magazine. I have a stash loaded, for over 6-months in the smaller magazine. If the round breaks before firing I would think it would be a quality issue, miss molded. I would think they researched the compression of a fully loaded magazine with any round.
My last batch I purchased is holding up quite well so maybe they have corrected the issue? I actually have never had one break but over time the seam loosens up and the powder shakes out. I think it happens more frequently when you load and unload the rounds. Thanks for commenting!
I've seen the CEO even say that this can happen especially in a 7 round mag
is it bad to load 5 plus 1 in the chamber?
The barrel slides all the way back and over the projectile and the extra ammo adds friction and also more pressure on the trigger and you also lose fps on your first shot. The manual also states not to load an extra projectile and over time it can wear on the internals.
THe Duke pepper roumds dont crack easily, they are strong. In SA Duke make the byrna romds, so the new byrna max rounds are sstronger, some folks put nail polish glu on the seem😂
That is great information thanks!
I think I’m going to try that 😂I have just ordered the byrna le last thing I want is those breaking in the clip how common if an issue is jt ?
CAN YOU OPEN CARRY BYRNA ? THANKS
In some states yes but not anywhere in New York where I live!
Can you releases the chemical rounds if already loaded and re do it? Wish I would have seen this months ago :)
Yes you sure can!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 how do you release the chemical rounds from the magazine?
At the top of the magazine you will see a bar that is holding the projectiles in place and all you need to do is push it down, just make sure you have the magazine pointed away from you and cup the top with your hand because they will spring out! Sorry it took me so long to reply!!!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 Thank you!
Much appreciated 🙏
have you ever tried to use the spring pressure in a magazine to launch at a person? or do it through the chronograph to compare the power vs actually shooting them from the gun?
Can you send your burner back to the manufacturer and have them clean it out for you because that’s what happened to my gun
Beleive it or not Byrna has a video and they recommend plunging it in a bucket of water or sink and let it air dry in the sun! In the video they throw it in a swimming pool. Without the C02 and magazine attached of course!
Byrna should make the pepperballs better. It's a rip-off the way they screw people, pepperballs cost a lot.
Hey man, you said you live in NYS. Might want to read up on the legality of "pepper balls".
I can't even get 'em shipped to Rochester! As I understand it, they are legal to sell buy &
possess in NYS, as long as you're outside of the 5 & Yonkers. However, as per the
shipping restrictions... this leaves room for dumb, lazy gung ho tyrannous
Oath breakers to jack you up! Hey, this is NY! there's probably even some
well meaning LEOs who mistakenly believe they're illegal or some
nonsense like "only we should have them!" Be careful! :]
So NY has some of the stupidest restrictions! Companies selling pepper sprays and pepper ball rounds cannot ship to NY but it is legal to purchase and use for self defense. However not all pepper sprays are legal depending on the content but so far pepper balls content has no restrictions.
@@airgunnerreviews7888 right, I was pleased to learn this. But I have had a fair few experiences, where something like this can be wrongly assumed illegal, as per the shipping restrictions & other legislation, like on spray & the cops will run you in anyway. When I mentioned reading about it I mean cases, not law on the books. Good luck even finding that!
Did you buy them on LI?
try self defense products.com! Good luck
@@airgunnerreviews7888 thanks man! ...good call.
The company should be named Scam haha.
Or you can just buy a large can of pepper spray that sticks to a person vs just floating away.
Byrna does not recommend using chemical rounds in a 7 round clip.
You are correct however that recommendation came after my video and multiple complaints to the company. Thank you for your response it is appreciated!
Too bad I can't use this advice because these things aren't legal.
Do you live in California?
@@airgunnerreviews7888 it's pronounced commiefornia
Or just pull the spring down when loading the magazine. Then you aren't adding pressure against the chemical rounds. Byrna even recommends doing this. About the only useful tip you had was to use a dedicated magazine for your chemical rounds.
You sir have no idea what you are talking about and obviously do not own a Byrna! Byrna does NOT recommend pulling the spring down before loading because you cannot do it! (there are no spring tabs like on an FSC magazine). Let me read word for word straight from the manual: “Hold the magazine with the projectile retaining bar away from you. Insert the projectiles into the to opening of the magazine. Only slight pressure is required to push the projectiles past the projectile retainer bar.” Knowing your facts before typing is highly recommended if you don’t want to be schooled…
Duh! As much as this crap costs shouldn't have to buy another magazine. Another way Byrna rips people off.
I believe the kit comes with 2 mags
How did you make your launchers camouflage like that? It's super cool looking.
You can purchase directly from Byrna under their clearance menu, they are skin wraps
I was considering buying a couple of launchers until watching this video, moreover the acceptance and resignation to having this problem that many owner/commenters have made without HAMMERING BYRNA about it is astounding ...after all, these launchers are not $50 zip guns, as for me , I do not need the aggravation of having rounds crack while in storage .Your video, although helpful is not doing anybody any favors , in that it does not motivate Byrna to make the necessary modifications needed to the magazine, but mostly the chemical rounds to ensure that this condition does not occur . Because you are telling people with the problem to try this or that , which may or not work consistently BYRNA rakes in the dough and does nothing about it .
The question rhetorical or suppositional is this ....what is the point of keeping a launcher loaded on the night stand or holster only to have it affect the owner as the rounds crack and ooze the irritants as opposed to staying intact for the scumbag who should be the recipient of the round?
They look great, and features Blah Blah Blah ...but who has time to load a magazine in time to use it when the emergency comes up? As far as anybody is concerned BYRNA is on the hook to fix the problem , because, the alternatives to their products which even if priced higher are worth buying in Byrna`s stead because those alternatives do not have the issues of rounds leakage ,and are very much available.
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
Sis Byrna know about this? And if so, are they alerting people to this as their customers can be harmed by their failure to alert the public!
Several weeks after I posted this on UA-cam Byrna did address this issue and their answer is to use the 5 round magazine instead of the 7 round with the heavier spring, however I have found no issues as long as you don’t load and unload the mag since this seems to be more of the issue.
