Laurel Avenue the two-part TV cable movie (1993) and Soul Food (1997) movie have strong character parallels. Sheila Arnett (Michelle Williams) like the character Bird in the Soul Food movie is the youngest daughter who is bright and and a goal setter. Both characters draw and enable the 'bad boys' in their lives. Anthony (Gary Dourdan) and a troubled High School basketball star (Ulysses Zachary...

Abbey Lincoln was an amazing jazz singer and a great songwriter as well
It's a shame Abby did not get the chance to do more films there were very few roles for black actresses back then

I think with the main characters it would have been interesting if they could have done a sequel film .
Starts off goofy with those teenagers but story gets better ... actually interesting storyline . Sidney Poitier's character here probably much more sophisticated and nobody's fool more so than in any other of his other films . I first saw it advertised in the theaters when I was 10 years old and finally got to see it just now for free on dj madi johnson channel .
I just love this movie. Sundays were the best for classics.
@sandrawiggins327 Me too!!!! I bought the DVD movie.

Both Sidney Poitier, and Abby Lincoln were both treasures. LET'S not forget the great QUINCY JONES, he is the man who wrote this beautiful music, and recieved an academy award nomination for best song.

Its amazing that such an event like the 2 chocolate cones (her father's disappointing look: he wanted vanilla) incident as a child could have such a profound effect in later years as an adult.
Women love them some piranhas LoL
Mr Poitier, the definition of smooth full court pressure. Kids this is how you do it, not like the savagery of these days…
Amen

He was one of the greatest . His autobiography was excellent ... and most Americans would not be able to believe the poverty he grew up in . He was also very poor when he first came to New York City .
Saw the movie on PBS in NY about 20 years. That's where I learned of Abby Lincoln.
where is the entire movie? this is one,A Warm December A Patch of Blue& Brother John are also very wonderful movies, would like to see them showing.

Is this whole movie posted somewhere on your channel? Ok
The part when she told that woman she had bitch eyes had me screaming back in the day😂😂
Miss Juanita Jennings (Yolanda) and Miss Rhonda Stubbins White (Rolanda) did that!!! When Rolanda came down them stairs and the baby hollered...them tears started rolling. Been loving this mini series since it aired on HBO. Superb acting from the entire cast!!! ❤
That preacher is going to be destroyed (Revelations 18:1-7).
aren't they all?
It's funny that both Gary Dourdan & Malinda Williams have played these types of characters twice w/ each other. They were in Sunset Park, she played a high school student & he played the dreadlock old dude, mackin' & picking her up in front of the school lol smh. They also played on Showtime's Soul Food together. He played her husband Lem's janky cousin.
Yessss!!
