I love the messages you are preaching and we can all do to hear such messages more, just to balance out what most videos are saying. Just a quick balance out again, dont go into deprivation mode if you can afford it. One good planner a yr is not excessive if you have saved up for it. I have a friend who will get gold medal at the Olympics if self deprivation is a sport, i do not wish for anyone to live like her.

I already decided last year that if Papertessdesigns came out with an A5 sized planner, I would get it. I love the Tomoe River paper and I really like her format where she bundles the week with the days, unfortunately she didn't do A5 for 2024 (she did release a undated one in feb or so, too late for me), so I'm using the Hobonichi Cousin (Avec) right now, but she is for 2025. It won't release until october or so I think, so I haven't been stressing out yet 😉

I'm someone who buys like one planner a year. I wanted to try out the Hobonichi cousin next year and I was really confused by everyone seemingly buying half their stock haha I'm happy if I use my one planner consistently. I was very impressed that other people manage to juggle four different types of planners next to each other.

I already bought my Hobonichi A6 with a weekly supplement, which fits me best because I take my planner everywhere. For journaling, in a long format, I love to use my traveller's notebook regular, I love that I don't have to commit to one type of book, but I can change the inserts depending on my needs.

I hear you talking about needs, I suggest you go more basic. I hear you saying needing a planner. Start with what you need it for, can it be digital? How much can a calendar work? I hear you saying you have needs. How can these needs be met, not worrying about a system, but rather a piece of paper to start. And yes, no duplication. FOMO is real but may I suggest you not succumb to FOMO. I like OneNote, Google calendar and Google Docs and spreadsheets to document what you are referring to. You are not alone, either. I use sheets of paper bound together to write notes, etc.

I got a Travelers Regular and I keep the first notebook as a monthly to track my weight and diabetes numbers every day and other health things. It's the Midori Monthly refill. Then I keep a second notebook refill in it with Tomoe River paper for doodling or just writing. Or even to try out new pens and inks. And then a 3rd one at the back was a notebook I got on Amazon that has this darker cotton textured paper that is really interesting to draw and doodle on or just write things down in. The edges on it are very crudely cut so it has character haha

Thank you for another great video! Living in Silicon Valley, I love the rebellion of using a paper planner. Last year I bought a very nice taught leather in Bordeaux for my A6 Techo, and the year before that a used A5 one in Harris Tweed, so I don't think they'll be able to sell me another cover for some years to come!

what about a traveler's notebook? you can put all of those in individual notebook and planner inserts.

I was surprised to hear you mention the Pilot VP as a durable pen, because the clip is said to break off quite easily because it's just glued on. I stopped wearing it in my shirt pocket for that reason.. My 5 most durable fountain pens are: 5. Tools to Liveby "Le Chat" 4. Pilot Metropolitan / Urban 3. Parker steel fountain pens (Sonnet, vector and jotter) 2. Graf von Faber Castell rhodinated Guilloche 1. Kaweco AL Bronze I didn't list my Lamy Studio LX all black because you covered it in your video. It'd be in my top 3. Mine also had its lacquer removed where the clip touches the body but that's not unusual at all. The Lamy 2000 however, as durable it is and as many falls and hardships it went through, didn't make it on my list simply because of its material, Makrolon - I've seen many cracked Lamy 2000s on eBay, unfortunately. I still don't baby it like I baby my really expensive fountain pens.

I really like the rules that Emily mentions in her video. The one that was most important for me was to allow yourself blank pages - some days there will be nothing to note. Just my personal experience but I've found that what works for me is a Hobonichi A6 to carry around with me alongside a B5 journal which I keep at home for longer thoughts & other records. I'd be interested to know what you think of the bible size Planner ring binder, and where in Europe you managed to find one!

Ex-lawyer here (England/Wales) - been into fountain pens for many years, but been reluctant to risk very expensive pens at work. Tended to use Jinhaos, etc when working, albeit tuned / well adjusted ones. Away from work, tend to use Cross Peerless Obsidian (medium nib) at home - a Kaweco Brass Sport lives permanently in my pocket (EF nib with SBRE Brown ink). My collection is down to 14 pens and I do rotate them quite a bit, however. Great video - keep 'em coming! 🙃

You have great choices. I do not like the Pilot Vanishing Point, but that is on me. I like the Pilot Metropolitan or the Pilot Varsity.

I have a brass All Sport and the thing is a ROCK. Or a metal. I think you could run it over in a car and it would be fine. Most durable pen I own.

Vitruvius!" 😂 I realise watching your vid that I also have a penchant for solid looking pens in block colours... Not so much with the black colours... But I do own a number of those...
