This is such a great angle on fountain pens as objects of design! Love it, i know im going to love the series ❤ (i havent even finished watching the video lol)
Ex-lawyer here (England/Wales) - been into fountain pens for many years, but been reluctant to risk very expensive pens at work. Tended to use Jinhaos, etc when working, albeit tuned / well adjusted ones. Away from work, tend to use Cross Peerless Obsidian (medium nib) at home - a Kaweco Brass Sport lives permanently in my pocket (EF nib with SBRE Brown ink). My collection is down to 14 pens and I do rotate them quite a bit, however. Great video - keep 'em coming! 🙃
I have to admit I expected an architect to have the Homo Sapiens in that list! Very nice pens! Also since you like Jonathan Brook's work and blues I strongly suggest you try to get a pen in his Bohemian Twilight resin. As for my top 5, in no particular order: * Omas Milord Arco Bronze * Pelikan M620 Grand Place * Leonardo x Galen Leather Momento Magico LE Bohemian Twilight * Leonardo x Atlas Momento Zero Golden Abalone with Rose Gold Trim * Monteverde Regatta Black Mother of Pearl with Rose Gold Trim
Randomly stumbled upon this video. Nice pens! Also, from an engineer and a Roman history buff- kudos on the proper Latin pronunciation of his three criteria! I have a Pelikan Jazz that I purchased for 'Jazz'. I have always bought fountain pens that I thought were beautiful. No matter how good they write, if I don't find them beautiful, I don't buy them. Although lately been inclined towards considering the 'firmitas' aspect even more. I am not the one to carry pen cases. I like to carry fountain pens in my pocket, sometimes even my jeans pocket. Plus I like the weight. So lately I have been prioritising pens with metal bodies. So even though I find for example the Pelikan M's to be beautiful, I don't have the heart to buy one. Recently got a Sheaffer Targa and a Sagaris. Those two fit all three of Vitruvius' criteria for me. They are beautiful, solid and write effortlessly and wonderfully with many inks and papers. And to comeplete my top 5 most beautiful pens- a black and gold Rotring Esprit for the colours, a Pelikan MK30 rolled gold for its absolutely classic looks and the 14k flex nib and a Waterman hemisphere in L'essence du Bleu. I love the wavy pattern on the cap.
My top 3 most beautiful pens that I own are: 3) Benu Euphoria Caviar -- This one is like your Euphoia Jazz but in gray with silver glitter. It makes me think of finding gemstones in a stone. Very beautiful. 2) LAMY Al-Star Blackpurple -- There is something about the design of this pen that just works for me, especially that wire clip. The triangular grip section is a bit too narrow for my taste, but I love that you can fully disassembled this pen for a good cleaning. Beautiful and very useful. 1) Sailor Pro Gear Slim Shikiori Vega -- This one is a solid dark blue with a subtle sparkle and gold trim. The design and build quality of this pen are just amazing. Solid and beautiful.
Nice how you incorporated architecture into the beauty of your fountain pens. Your Jonathan Brooks is amazing as well as the pro gear and benu. Partial to the pelikan blue dunes as I too enjoy the rhodium trim. My top 5 based on beauty are... (5) Parker duofold international in jade green (4) Pilot custom urushi in Vermillion (3) Delta dolcevita oversize orange/black (2) Montegrappa ducale grande emperador in tortoise brown (1) Waterman Edson in sapphire blue Honorable mention... Pelikan M805 in the Stresemann finish with rhodium trim.
Wow. I really enjoyed your video. What a novel concept to incorporate principles from architecture. Love that idea. I learned so much and it’s a new way to think about pens. Please continue with the series. Looking forward to it. As for my most beautiful pens: a jonathan brooks charlotte model in moonlit raden, Benu euphoria in matcha latte, sailor pro gear in pink cosmos and Franklin Christoph figboot collab model 66 in California sunset.
Excellent pen collection! I like to collect machined titanium steel and aluminium pens because I find beauty in excellent engineering, but I do appreciate the artistry in the pen colours that are possible with resin and plastic.
Very solid choices. That m805, especially, is gorgeous. (I just have a boring green m800 ... mostly love it for how it writes ... and my m605 is the blue one.)
You might also be interested in Aesthetics by Dietrich Von Hildebrand. I read volume 1 and it was pretty dense for me but it’s basically his philoophy about what makes things objectively beautiful
Jazz is such an interesting passion. What instrument do you play? Beautiful pens are gorgeous. I find that often beautiful pens often do not write well, but not Benu
From an aesthetic perspective, these are my favorites from my smaller collection: - Lamy Vista (with lamy z28 converter to add some contrast) - Lamy Logo & CP1 (sleek look, love the logo's brushed finish) - Pelikan M205 blue marble (kinda similar to your M805) - Pelikan twist frosted blue (looks like an icicle) - Platinum 3776 Century bourgogne (yours is gourgeous, my pick of the bunch) - Platinum Curidas matte black (so "ugly" that becomes cool) - Sailor pro-color 500 stardust (looks exactly like a night sky)
Beautiful collection 🤩 I was recently about to buy the blue dunes but decided to order the m600 Cambon instead. It hasn’t arrived yet -- I keep thinking I made a mistake!!! Love yours!
@@Blue_Rosemarie my favorite color is blue but when I saw that the cambon was US$399 on Atlas Stationers- I thought that was a phenomenal price and had to order one. I still want blue dunes 😭
I had to also order the Blue Dunes - it has been calling me- and your summary helped convince me:). It’s on the way. The Cambon is beautiful but it’s a little small for me, the black cap and body pick up lots of fingerprints and dust, there are markings under the lacquer which I don’t like, no ink window , and I’m not a huge fan of gold plated hardware. I prefer silver, black rhodium. I think the blue dunes will remedy all these issues! 😊
@@Blue_Rosemarie surprisingly there is still quite a bit of stock available here in the States- the hard part is finding a discount. My goal now is to find a nice matching ink!
That Pelikan is gorgeous! My most beautiful pen is also a Pelikan, the Glauco Cambon. The guilloche process creates an almost holographic effect that's fascinating.
Great video, new sub! I appreciate your candidness and honesty about your opinions, I think it's refreshing. And your minimal editing, even when you forget something or say a word wrong is a great change of pace from all of the "polished" videos out there that come across as more fake. So, thanks for being genuine and letting your personality come through. I also don't edit my videos much, but more from a place of being lazy :) I like that you used elements of architecture from Vitruv to talk about the design elements of fountain pens, super cool idea. Keep up the great work! I'm looking forward to the next videos in the series.
Great video, thank you! I loved the information about architecture and it does relate to making any object. I also have a Pelikan M805 Blue Dunes and agree it is a gorgeous pen. The chatoyance is beautiful and it is one of my most beautiful pens. I also have a Pilot Nagasawa Decimo in the Kobe gradation and it is also a very beautiful pen. The quality of the material is so rich and wonderful to the touch and the color (stone gray) is very elegant.
I love your idea for this series! Hope to see the other vids soon. Also, loving your pens ❤❤❤ Can't decide which is my prettiest pen (they're all gorgeous 😍)... But right now I have inked up my Pelikan M400 white tortoiseshell and M600 violet & white, and my heart skips a beat every time I look and write with them 🥰
Hello, Rosemarie, can you tell me what model of Platinum 3776 that is in the blue-grey finish, please. I already own the 'Blue Dunes' M805. Blue is my second favourite colour - green has always been my numero uno. Nevertheless, a fine Top Five ! Thank you for sharing, Andrew 🙂
How interesting, you are teaching us a bit of how you view architecture or some of the things you've picked up over the years and applying it to our fountain pens. lol Very, very, intelligent of you. Pelikans are the best!! haha I didn't like Pelikans at all when I first got into fountain pens either oddly enough. Then I got an m200 and it was over. I got the Red Tortoiseshell 600 after that and it just kept going. I have quite a few now. I love my Visconti pens, I love my Montblanc, but I love my Pelikans most. I also adore architecture, although I've never studied it. It's such another form of artwork to me and like a fingerprint from each architect.
@@Blue_Rosemarie I know I'm irritated that they have done away with that too. But there is a pen that has an ink window that is the same size as that m600 and it's a red tortoiseshell also. It's a more rare pen called the Pelikan M101n Red Tortoiseshell. It's based off of the pens from the 30's? I think so anyways. Look into them. I have one and it's the Grey-Blue finish with black and has Rhodium trim and a 14k gold nib. I keep Pelikan Edelstein Tanzanite in it. It's one of my favorite blue-blacks along with Diamine Prussian Blue.

As an honorary mention another sailor, the sailor 4 seasons Hisakata (a more afforable steel nib, but just as beautiful in my opinion).
Thank you for another great video! For me, my two most beautiful pens come from Pascal Choisy, a tiny artisan in the Champagne region of France. Franklin Christoph Model 02 in emerald; Franklin Christoph Model 20 in black; Kaweco Dia 2 black; Aurora Optima black. These are the pens in my collection that I find most beautiful. Three of them also write beautifully. Also love the look of Diplomat Aero pens, though don't have one (yet).
Pelikan Souveran M400 in white and green and gold, my sailor dragon emperor's palace, and my vintage wahl eversharp oxford in celluloid that is so shiny for a pen that's around 85 years old. Oh, and my noodler's neponset Eider that looks like a vintage pen outside and in....lol
My most beautiful pens are my Leonardo Momento Zero Grande Sand, Visconti Mirage Mythos Zeus, Esterbrooke Estie Petrified Forest and Pelikan Souvaran 800.
If I had to pick one pen of my whole collection as the most beautiful, it would be the Leonardo MZG Mother of Pearl.
